I'm really enjoying these vids Ryan, I don't think I've seen spiny lobsters (Palinurus elephas) in many other UK RUclips vids & I saw two in this one!! I think your channel might be a slow burner, I'm sure people will latch on eventually, by the way where was the crab factory/farm place you visited at the end, it looked awesome!!
Cheers Paul, spiny lobsters are making a strong comeback at the moment so I could see more in the future! I'm hoping to find a monster one! The crab place is where local potters bring their catch, then it gets sorted and distributed to restaurants, fishmongers and so on. They had lobsters on the other side of the building, I think the commercial process isn't that well known and so it's pretty interesting! It looks like a few rundown old sheds and doesn't have any signs, it's not a shop for the public.
I was there with my family earlier this year drinking in the Cove House Inn, I'll definitely have to check that out next time I'm down there!! As for the spiny lobsters I had no idea they was increasing in numbers, this is why I love RUclips & informative videos like these, cheers!
Big crabs look good, but big means old. Think about it, you would not have steak from a very old steer. One to two Kilo is the best, I have caught hundreds of tons of them and I would never take a very big one home to eat.
Hi thanks for the comment. I know the point you're trying to make but cows have different biology to crabs, it's comparing apples and oranges. They're selectively bred, farmed and steaks are often aged for 3-4 weeks before we cook them, you wouldn't do that with a crab! A very large crab could be 100 years old, I've not had any issues when eating big crabs. I haven't found big scallops to be worse eating either.
Thanks BR0SE1DON! In that area there are loads of boulders to sneak around, in about 10-20 meters, it's pretty good fun. The crabs in tanks were compensating for the lack of spearfishing I've done. There was a similar set up on the other side of the building but with lobsters it was pretty interesting. But they didn't let me kit up and dive in... I was pretty sure I could catch something!
Interesting switch from spearo food to farmed. A poignant short story evoking feelings rather than thoughts. More narrative to fill in the gaps please; it left me wanting...
Thanks Grant, it's good to hear the feedback and I'll bear it in mind for future videos. The crabs at the end were not farmed. When crabs get caught in pots at sea they have to be sorted and distributed to restaurants, fish mongers and so on. These crabs were at that stage. Locally caught crabs getting ready to be sent on. I thought people might be interested in having a look at that stage!
Ryan E I did wonder. Not farmed, but off-to-market! All the more wonderful to see your personal endeavours in contrast to the business of the commercial offerings.
@@GrantWyness I find video footage can be far more powerful in conveying this contrast than just telling people. It's good to hear that the footage has worked!
😂😂 great video 👌🐟👌
Thanks , was a fun one to make
This is a cool channel dude keep it up 👍
Hi there, I've seen a few of your vids before! Cheers fella, I appreciate it, hopefully the weather holds and I'll get some more videos up!
Nice video again and a good size crab on the last dive. 👍👍
Cheers mate, there's lots of big crabs in Dorset and you don't need a licence like in Devon!

I think lobster is overrated I prefer crab.
I'm a big fan of crab as well but I'd still take both!
Great video mate - it sure gets deep quickly in that area - wow! Loved seeing the crabs at the end - that was really cool!

Ryan can I pay you and you can catch something for me😁
Haha you can definitely pay me but I don't always find these things!
