Utah Single Track - Toquerville Twister
This was one of the most fun single tracks I have ever been on. What it lacks in challenging obstacles, it more than makes up for in fun and flow. It's like being on a two stroke roller coaster as you traverse up and down, left and right through amazing scenery.

Solo Ride To Toquerville, Utah
Просмотров 3094 месяца назад
I decided to do something I don't normally do on this channel, and that is going out to ride all alone. This day ended up being amazing for many reasons, and gave me insight into the joys that solo adventurers get when they ride by their lonesome. This video is number one in a series of videos that will all encompass the Toquerville area.

It's been months since I was on the bike, and even longer for my friend Andy. Luckily we had Collin from ADV Squared to show us a fun trail out of the typical Southern California heat. During this ride, I got the change to jump on what I call the Austrian Unicorn Bike: a California plated 2017 Husqvarna TX300. This bike has the amazing KTM counterbalancer, and it's the last year of carburetion....
Riding in a snowy mud slick

This ride was during a Broken Enduro family event in Baldy Mesa / Phelan, California. This area had been hit by a lot of snow, and rained all day the long the day before. This made for interesting conditions, being extremely slick and slippery in most places. After a bit of a learning curve, this became a fun day out.

The camera also doesn't really show how steep or how sketchy some things can be. But yeah, I've improved a bit since this ride, so making it up is not even a thought anymore.

      That's a shame to hear. I haven't been back out to this area in a couple years, so I haven't seen it. But that seems to be the case with a few of my favorite places to ride. And I also worry about how fast they come around blind corners and down fire roads. It takes no skill to drive a SXS at extreme speeds, it only takes money.

    TIRE PRESSURES AND SUSPENSIONS SETTINGS? ASKING FOR A FRIEND…

    • @americandirtrider7662
      @americandirtrider7662 3 месяца назад

      Hah! I admittedly had the front tire pressure a bit too high in this ride, maybe 12 or 13. We run tubliss, so I wouldn't have had an issue going down to 10 or less in the front to get a little less push. As for settings: The bike in this video is actually my dad's bike. He had his suspension done by The Ride Shop in Pheonix AZ, so I can't exactly say what the settings are. I do know he's running his fork springs one rate softer than stock and the stock shock spring, which is now what Beta is coming with in the 2023s and 2024s. But valving is completely different than the stock stuff. He likes his bike really soft compared to mine.

    • @85ZERO17
      @85ZERO17 3 месяца назад

      @@americandirtrider7662 Ok gotcha. When you say really soft compared to yours what does that translate to, do you feel it can be too soft for this type of riding? Is yours more stiff Just do to a diff type of terrain than this? Thnx for the response

    • @americandirtrider7662
      @americandirtrider7662 3 месяца назад

      @@85ZERO17 I really liked his bike for this type of riding. My bike has more hold up in the stroke for hard edge hits at speed and for whoop sections in the desert. The ride in this video was mostly 1st through 3rd gear, and there were no whoops or hard fast hits. Where I usually ride in California is faster paced and harder packed, so I like my bike for my area. His bike settles nicely in corners, and seemed to keep better traction in flat track turns. Also his is easier to pivot turn, and feels a little more planted on chattery roads. My bike feels a little more vague in corners, but doesn't deflect on hard fast hits. My bike seems to stay very straight through rock sections. Best way I can put it is this.... When hitting an exposed root at lower speeds, his bike will roll over it and follow the ground better. But you add speed and his bike will kick or deflect because it's going through the stroke further. My bike will hit that root at slow speed and will pop you up off the ground like hitting a jump. Hitting that same root fast with my bike won't kick the bike left or right. So my bike is a bit less comfortable, but I feel like it's more forgiving if you hit something faster than you probably should have.

    • @85ZERO17
      @85ZERO17 3 месяца назад

      Man that is a really good explanation, very comprehensive. I appreciate you taking the time to unpack it like that. I suppose that is the crux then a…..can’t ah e it all? As a novice and particularly green to tuning suspension…even at an entry level. I just seem intimidating to start playing settings with a baseline method or ratio pertaining to one seething affect on another…their relation to on another. Seems that it could be pretty simple for a guy to set himself Back Just as easily as advancing if the goal is to not leave anything on the table in terms of balance of comfort/ forgiveness and performance, or maybe the 1st 2 result in the latter? Shiiiiiit who knows!

    • @americandirtrider7662
      @americandirtrider7662 3 месяца назад

      @@85ZERO17 The guy who invented racetech always said the best you've ridden is the best you know. I feel I've learned this the hard way multiple times, thinking my bike was perfect. Then I jump on someone else's bike and realized my bike is not 100% of what I want. Maybe a little softer here, or more support there. So it's worth finding a section of trail you really like, and go over it again and again with changes to the suspension. As for how to tune suspension, that's a whole world to go into. And there are some smarter people than me that have a way of doing it from step one to finish. Like what to adjust first, and how one affects the other. It's fun stuff after you get over the initial overwhelming feeling.

      If you can make me a mousse that stays 9 to 10 psi for ever, I'll pay double for it! Haha. I just got a 501 and can't imagine trying these trails on it. Couple things: You did an excellent job on the video and editing. I really enjoyed watching 1 and 2. Great job trying this whole thing on the 500, you had some awesome moments of riding. Fatigue, dehydration and cramping are almost impossible to recover from once they start! I've done endurance cycling events and know the feeling very well! Great job though, I wish you luck in the future!!

      Dude your comment really means a lot! Now that I've spent a couple seasons on the 300, I realize the 500 is just too much for thatlength of ride. It's a fun bike, but wears you down with every twist of the throttle and with every lean in and out of the corner. I've also had to take a serious look at hydration since this event. I need to work on becoming a more efficient rider, and spending less energy getting through things. Thank you about the edit. I haven't been filming as much, but I want to get back into making videos. Stay tuned because I have a Utah ride that I plan to make a couple videos on.

There are times where I wish I would have gotten the Beta 250 Race Edition over the 300 Race Edition, because I tend to ride on the pipe a bit more like the old school 2 strokes required. But there are times where the 300 just tractors up things, and I'm sure a 250 would have been a bit more clutch work.

      Hey Joe! There are a lot of areas of AZ that get quite hot, but definitely not the whole state. So I think it would definitely depend on where you're planning to visit. Phoenix, Sedona, Tucson are all going to be brutal in the summer. But Prescott, Flagstaff, Williams are much nicer. I'd still recommend spring or fall for either of these. Though there is a really cool monsoon season in certain areas during the second half of summer, which I actually really enjoy.

      You mean you don't know for sure how many people are behind you? Usually if it's a lot, you flash the "five" sign a couple times to show there's a lot of people. Or I guess you could do some other type of slow down signal. I definitely worry about it even more now that side by sides are crazy popular. Those can go 0 to 60 so fast, so I'd hate for one of those to pass me and speed up right into my friends or family around the corner.
