Hey awesome video! Just found your channel as I was looking up Honda CRF300L dual sport reviews. I live in Phx as well and grew up with dirt bikes as a kid but now that I’m 26 I really want to get my first dual sport. I’ll have to check out that area near Mayer, never been there before! Great editing as well, I noticed the ADTR song and also really respect you spending time with your old man. Those are the memories that will last a lifetime.

Damn, I didn't see a notification for your comment. Sorry about that Bryan!! There is so much good riding up above Prescott, Skull Valley, etc. My dad lives out there now, so he has shown me a few great spots.
Did you end up getting the CRF300? Or were you looking into anything else? Living out there, you have the luxury of getting anything plated, so I guess I'd base your needs on how much pavement you do.
Thanks for the complements on the video! And also I consider myself very lucky to be able to ride with my dad. He's 65 and still rides extremely well. Does anyone in your family ride?

The area at 10:40 looks like New River/Table Mesa Rd which as you found out is a very busy area with a bunch of not so careful people. Extracting stuck jeeps from those water and wash crossings is a full time gig for the offroad wreckers up in that area. Very cool that you got to see the dam and the sheep bridge.
With all the rock fields slick broken rock hills, you can see why quite a few people in AZ run a trials tire on the back. I ran a Pirelli MT 43 with good success for many years.

    • @americandirtrider7662
      @americandirtrider7662  4 года назад

That would actually explain the tow truck we saw on the road! You sound pretty familiar with this area. Is this your local area?
On a trail like this, I could see a trials or a hybrid tire being a huge help!

@@americandirtrider7662 Yes - I've traveled almost all these routes. It doesn't seem like it, but the area is very close to central-north & west Phoenix, only about 20-30 minutes from the city. Arizona is somewhat unique I feel in that you can traverse vast portions of this state without touching a paved roadway.

Hey JM, thanks for the comment! This video seems to be getting some attention recently, which is pretty awesome. Mike is a pretty damn good rider, even when on the big bush pig that is the DR650. In some of my more recent videos, you can see him on his Beta 300 Race Edition. It's a task to try to keep up, that's for sure.
As for the SR41, that does sound familiar. This trail had a handful of rock gardens like that, and some stream crossings. I definitely do not envy you trying to get through it on a KLR. That's brutal.

I'm currently 61 years old ( or young depends how you look at it ) It's ALWAYS been a dream of mine to own a bike and I promised myself that I would before I died. @americandirtrider7662  2 года назад

@@frankybarra6067 Hey good to hear from you again Frank, and awesome to hear you're so motivated about the bike. One question I have for your is how tall and what kind of shape you're in. Another question is what state you are in. Reason for the first question is a 650 platform is great, but heavy. If you drop it and you are alone, you may be in big trouble. As for height, the Suzuki DR650 is lower than a Kawasaki 650, which is then lower than the Honda 650L. If you're in a state like AZ or something, you can get any bike steet legal. A state like CA, you'll have to make sure the bike was plated from the dealer when it was first sold. So that brings the selection of dual sports down significantly. If you're in a state where you can get anything plated, the used market for bikes will be much bigger for you. You could pick up a 2006 Honda CRF450X and get it plated if you like, costing you a third of what a brand new KTM500 would cost.
The other big question everyone will ask you to ask yourself is how much pavement vs. dirt do you think you will ride. In this trip, we were on dirt about 90% of the time. I think with that ratio, you're better off with a plated enduro bike. I prefer the 500, since it has the power to pull a longer gear ratio IF you decide to do more street riding.
Don't let age bother you. My dad (who is in this video) is in his mid 60s and still a very talented rider. I think continuing to ride and ride often keeps him healthier than he was even before retirement.
Are you looking for something brand new? I'm obviously a fan of the Betas, and the current generation (2020 and up) is awesome. They do Beta Demo Days throughout the year; info on the BetaUSA website. You may like the 430 or 500. For something less aggressive, the new Honda CRF450RL is very nice. A bit heavier than the KTMs and Betas, but the suspension is very nice. KTMs are good bikes as well, but I don't like the company. But that's a different conversation.
Keep me posted, I'd love to hear what your thoughts are for your bike.

We started in Mayer AZ, then went toward Carefree, then over toward Lake Pleasant, and back up toward Mayer. I don't have the GPX files unfortunately, as I was just a guest on the ride.

Thanks man, I appreciate it. I know this video was on the long side, but there was just so much cool stuff. I can try to give you as much info as I can, but I wasn't the one that planned the trip. What's your email?

We’re running to red dirt bikes and I’m wanting to get a bike so maybe once I get my bike we can ride together and make videos because that’s my true passion is making videos about motorcycles and riding them. I just don’t have a Motorcycle yet.

Just had to go and rewatch that video of yours. Man, you guys were moving at a hell of a pace. I've learned an appreciation for the technical riding that a rocky stream can give.
