Phoenix needs more protected bike lanes. The Canals are the only places you feel safe enough to bring your children out for a ride to lunch or to the park.
If you live on the west side, you take your risks. Most of the improvements are central. I would love to see more commuting space for people trying to get from Glendale to the warehouse district, south of the 10.
I love it. Phoenix is doing a great job, not only for bicyclists but also for runners to, so that they won't have to endanger their lives passing major streets, and instead go on trails to run on. Good Job Phoenix
Many people hate Phoenix, but it's better than many think. It's still a very young city. Give it time and it will become a functional, modern, diverse and livable city.
Love phoenix hope to be back in 2022 I just think Phoenix is the greatest outdoors people things to do and ride your bike every day for good health but stay safe🙏😊
The Phoenix metro area has many miles of off street paths. A lot of that mileage is continuous, but there are several stranded sections that I'd love to see get connected to the rest. It is impressive right now, but has the potential to be fantastic in the future if they stick with it.
Phoenix has a great variety of trails for hiking, cycling, and horseback. They have much better options for mountain biking than road cycling for the time being. Their mountain biking is better than most big cities by a large margin. It's just a shame how many days of the year it gets too hot for long rides.
I too love riding in the Phoenix area. But I have a major concern that I would like to see addressed by the different agencies that provide the path along the Arizona Canal. If you agree I would like to get the thought passed on to those agencies. Thanks There are several underpasses along the Arizona Canal where the homeless squat for days and nights at a time. Each such underpass is a danger to anyone using the path but the path under I-17 IS THE WORST AND MOST DANGEROUS. Nearly every day the underpasses, especially I-17, has homeless people and their carts, debris and trash scattered throughout. I have several times nearly crashed into a person lying across the path. THE I-17 AND OTHER ARIZONA CANAL UNDERPASSES ARE AN ACCIDENT OR WORSE WAITING TO HAPPEN. Action Needed: Outlaw Camping in the Underpasses on the Arizona Canal recreation path!!! Put up and enforce NO CAMPING AND NO LOITERING signs on the Arizona Canal underpasses.
bicyclist : - have fune . - easy to remember the streets . - preven heart disease . - friendly envirement , cut air polution . - release our stress. - cut our expense ( car insurant , gas , car fix ) - prevent serious deadly accident . - meet new friend . - can acess smaller street that the cars can not . - may be something more benifit that I do'nt khow . thank for people who ride , who make bicycles .
Its marketing with this focus, on people-oriented development, that is really effective in making Phoenix a potential place to live for me. Their infrastructure may not be perfect nor spread across the state, but I feel like it's important that they are actually trying to promote biking, something that is nonexistent in most states...
I gave up riding a bicycle in Phoenix after the third time some moron in a motor vehicle almost ran over me. Also crossing I-17 is difficult when there are homeless camps blocking the sidewalk.
Arizona it's a good place to ride bicycles but not doing the summer if you do rain to buy in the summer you had to do it before the Sun comes out bright and early in the morning but the size that is a good place
Sorry, but I didn't see anything that is geared for more serious cyclists or anyone who wants to get a workout on a bike (aka not strolling on a Schwinn bike going 5 mph) . Riding on roads, road shoulders, sidewalks with narrow sharp blinding turning paths and tunnels are not ideal or safe. Cyclists are more often killed by driver on road shoulders (aka "biking lanes"). If Phoenix wants to be known for biking, it should invest in building wide, scenic, and dedicated trails that are designed for riders going 15-25 mph for 10-20 miles uninterrupted. There should be wide and slow bending turns, tunnels and bridges with lanes separating pedestrians and cyclists. Northern Virginia has invested in this type of biking infrastructure with more construction on-going to widen, expand, connect, and build overpasses. As I'm researching Phoenix as a possible relocation, I am not finding much on cycling infrastructure and this video isn't convincing for my needs.
The bigger problem are the yahoo drivers. THe police need enforce the laws. I cycled most days from Tempe to 101 and Shea. made it 32miles each way. I had at least 3 incidences every time. Normally BMWs in North Scottsdale and Teslas in South Scottsdale. Phoenix needs to fine drivers. Also, 100 miles of off road trails and paths is nothing. ALso, when we must yield to cars at every intersection makes it unsafe and time consuming. But, again, enforce laws for drivers.
By the way, I am cycling for 3 weeks in Asturias in northern Spain. I have 800 miles and guess how many close passes I have had. 0, zero, nada, nil. Phoenix police are lazy and need to get to work.
PHNX needs more protected trails. You have to be out of your mind riding in the bike lanes with all the people driving around high & drunk. Canal path is great. Just try not to get robbed by a meth head

This city just gets better and better. Well done PHX.

What a clean city ...wow!

Are these trails and paths e-bike friendly?

There is the one path that runs along the 202 south of South Mountain. It is abut 7 or 8 miles long. It never gets cleaned so expect flats.
There needs to be safe crossings at all freeways.

Be wary of the homeless taking shelter in the tunnel underpasses.
