Dude I freaking love it! I'm so glad that you captured all this! (Stupid GoPros) I can't wait until next year! Thank you for being an incredible riding partner! Sorry I'm slow.
Hah, I have video evidence of you not being slow all right here. I think we had a really good pace and can make this thing happen. But you really do need to invest in a different camera 😄
I can't even imagine doing the trails up there on a 690. You're a better man than I! I'm trying to get my two stroke plated for next year's Big Bear event, so I can shave off 30 bike pounds.
Just make sure you drink electrolytes! My issue was I just drank water plain, and it flushed out all the good stuff in my body. I cramped like I was being injected with acid, it was awful.
Dude major props for getting that far! Your boots story reminds me of Chris 3 years ago. He forgot his helmet and didn’t sleep the whole night. I came up with the idea of hitting up the fox guys at their booth before 6am. Sure enough, they leant him one and he ended up getting a plaque! Love this moto community 👊🏼
I consider us lucky to be involved in a sport where people care about each other. Also I'm happy to hear I'm not the only one who forgot a necessary piece of personal protection 😄 It's really surprising how hard fatigue hits you. You can be feeling awesome, and 10 minutes later you are just suffering through it.
Looks like a tough one!! The time limit also keeps you from slowing down to recover energy on the fire roads if your always trying to push your average speed back up. Can’t wait for pt 2
Oh man.... totally learned a new respect for those that finish. I think the longest break we took was just our fuel stops. Other than that, it's a minute or two here and there to eat an energy bar or gel. I'll try to get Part 2 out soon!! Thanks for watching and commenting.
I don't know how I missed this video?!? Gold Mountain still looks crazy with all the dust and carnage. Did you soften up your suspension before the race because of all the rock trails you had to go through. It looks like just a constant beating!
I kept it the same from when we went riding, but I probably should have softened it even more. I got deflected a bit. And yeah this event just beat us up! I'll try to get part 2 out soon so you can see our demise. Haha
I think if you did this event and only did as many miles as you want, it would be a lot of fun. I was really enjoying it up until the cramps and crashes. Then it just became suffering on two wheels.
@@americandirtrider7662 I hate to say it but sometimes those make the most memorable rides and all the misery you endure are the best stories and gives you the best laughs!
@@matthewvaldez9961 That weekend most definitely had stories from it! And I agree about it being memorable. Plus I think it's good to push yourself so much further than normal.
Put a sheet of real thin plastic across your chest in a case like that. It takes up no space when you pack it away and it blocks the wind from your chest completely. I've stopped and got a newspaper and done the same thing. Definite difference.
Hey Ryan. I won't be able to do it this year, because I just have too many things going on. Buy next year, I'm definitely going to get more bike time in. That includes this event for sure. And I'm really looking forward to making an attempt with my 300 instead of my 500. The 500 just wears you down after so many hours of technical riding. How about yourself?
I think that's really what messes with your mind. You're pushing and probably need to stop to take recovery breaks, but your brain is telling you to keep going or you won't make the time limit.
It started nice and cool! But as we got to the exposed areas away from the pines, it heated up quite a bit. It felt like it may have hit 90, but it probably peaked out in the high 80s. Not bad unless you're wearing a bunch of protective gear and working your butt off! Haha
@@americandirtrider7662 I need to start riding more like I use to. I was riding every weekend the first 2 yrs of getting my bike now for some damn reason I'm so damn busy and not motivated enough 😤😔

@@BrokenEnduro Maybe they FINALLY figured it out 🤔
@@americandirtrider7662 Here' hoping.
I got exhausted as hell on my 690 doing the advanced easy ways, called her quits after route 3 of 4. Sweet vid!

Getting ready to do my first BB hard route next weekend. Thanks for the video!

@@americandirtrider7662 Great tips, thanks man. Going to try and hydrate all week but bringing some extra electrolytes is a great idea.
Great ride..Hard earned T-shirt..but it looks like you learned a bunch
I totally forgot about the T-shirt! I think it might still be in my backpack. Haha
Looks brutal! Great job man!
Thanks bro. It's always fun to challenge yourself and push your limits. But you'll see later in this series I just got beat up.

You guys were keeping a pretty good pace through Gold and Cactus Flats. We never see Devon in the videos, he is faster than he lets on.
You just have to get close to his back tire and he magically steps up his pace! 😁

Would love to try this event but I could probably only make 100 miles and be tapping out! Great video!

This is intense. That trail is rough enough, now add a time limit 😑😒

We may do the advanced easy route next year just so we can finally have fun at one of these events. Jump in with us!!
