    Most of the luxury bags I see just aren’t my taste. Some of them are even quite ugly, and not even functional IMHO. but I have paid good money before to have a leather artisan custom-make a bag for me, which I have designed specifically for my own needs, so everything about it is intentional. The color, size, pockets, etc. I used it everyday for three years. Best money spent.

I work from home and don't like to go out to "fancy" places so i never need to dress up. It's weird bc when I was poor growing up, my plan the whole time was to drive a nice car and wear luxury brands. Now that I have the money, I just don't feel like "wasting" money on that stuff. I got to this point by following the rules in the FIRE community (financial independence/retire early) and BKF (brass knuckle finance). Things like never using credit cards, paying for everything in cash, not owning a home and renting instead . The renting thing I learned from bkf, and it's a game changer to realize a home is the worst investment.

    I once had idiotic ideas about the "rich" until we found ourselves in that category after much hard work. We don't "compete" with other rich people because we are comfortable with our life. We don't buy luxury shoes, jackets, purses or cars or eat $300/person dinners. Not because we can't afford it but because of our upbringing. Flaunting was a no no, paying huge amounts for things that looked no different than "regular" things was crazy. Judging a meal by its price was absurd. But some do show off. At a dinner party, a guest (we call him "Wine Man") was going on as usual about wine and his cellar with music, water, a fireplace, table, built-in fridge, tv , etc. We kept him downstairs and mixed two bottles from Trader Joe's. I then called the "Wine Man" to taste a rare wine I got from a guy we met at a party blah blah. He took a sip and we waited. Sure enough, it was a winner - notes of charcoal, blackberry, licorice, etc He went along with the joke but I think learned a lesson

    Well my perception of rich has changed a lot lately; what if you are financially endowed but you might have an incurable sickness, or your lifestyle and personal failures have brought a lonliness that money cant get you out of? Many rich people are not happy and would pay almost everything to have real value; health, love, peace, even salvation from fear of what comes after death, and to include: life while alive, not just living while dead inside. The only solution and the beginning of life is Jesus Christ. Simply believe that He died and rose from the dead and confess Jesus and the lord and saviour of your life. Romans 10:9-10.

      The items in outlet stores can often be of lesser quality. Many brands make products directly for outlets, Prada for example. This video is largely about the US market. In China for example the culture around showing off the brands is a bit different. In both markets however the underlying philosophy behind the consumption of these luxury, visibly branded products is the same. It’s a projection of status. In the US, research has shown that many people use these products to display a false sense of socioeconomic status yet in China, many wealth people of high socioeconomic status still choose to display their wealth with these highly branded products. In the US, the trend has largely to go minimalist and of extremely high quality instead. China also has a significantly higher amount of people purchasing counterfeit versions, partly because the fake products are made locally and partly to portray a false sense of status.

    • @sheyminds
      @sheyminds 7 дней назад

      @@RaisedMedia that's what I thought too, that this video is about American consumers because Asian consumerism is whole new diff topic. People used to love huge designer logos because that used to be the trend before. Now they love designers with less to no logos because minimalism now is the new trend (to think that it's still a designer item). I guess people just follow the trends they can afford.

    @RevkaDKQ 8 дней назад

    It drives me (and the historical fashion space) bananas how much the question of *materials* is not part of the discussion. A shoe made of genuine leather or a coat made of 100% wool is going to last you eight to ten years under normal wear and tear. That same item made of synthetics is going to get you two years, tops. An undergarment made of 100% cotton or bamboo is going to offer better temperature control in both hot and cold weather and, again, last longer than it synthetic equivalent. Thrifting or buying new, logo or not, that "what is it made of" tag is what really tells the story.

    I don't think tech companies are going to dominate in banking themselves. They'll dominate in ways you can pay, but ultimately, it is highly unlikely they're going to put up a fight against the big banks on Wall Street such as Citi, American Express, and JP Morgan Chase.

    • @RaisedMedia
      @RaisedMedia 8 дней назад

      I agree with your statement for at least the next decade. Long term though I think banks will become more like giant fin-techs while the traditional big tech companies like Apple and Google will become increasingly connected to banking as they vertically integrate. Eventually they won’t need a partnership with a bank, they could run an entire subsidiary bank themselves after acquiring one. There is a lot of consolidation going on right now in the US banking industry. Definitely going to be interesting to see how this will all play out!

    The explanation/argument that the lower class wear luxury brands for survival (to get a job, to attract a mate) is a stretch. I can't speak for women, but as a guy, all I'd need is 2-3 decent suits. One for the job interview and two to mix and match with accessories for when you have the job. For dating, again, look decent - no need to look gaudy and tacky while in reality, you got no money BECAUSE you wasted it on LV and Gucci mass consumer crap. The issue comes down to showing off. Impressing people you don't even like. Look at how things are in 2024. How's this practice working out for everyone? Staying poor trying to look rich. It's an endless cycle.
