Ive never made a bad comment about anyone on Airbnb and when I finally did I was told I was committing extortion. Then the apartment owner was allowed to say whatever he wanted to about me and nothing was done about it. I never met this guy, never talked to him or texted him until I left the place a week early on a 2 week stay. Truth is once you make a time commitment on airbnb you are stuck with it no more what kind of place they provide. He asked me what he could do to make things right and I told him to refund me for the week I didnt stay. He asked me and I told him, I made no demands of any kind.
The investors crashed the company on purpose because they all were hotel owners anyway. Why do you think they kept hiking up the fees so high? They didn’t want anybody to save money on anything forced the whole market right back to the hotel chains themselves.
As a host I’ve realized that we don’t matter. Airbnb sits on billions everyday on interest alone. They take the reservation/money immediately from the guest. Hosts pay the *mortgage *utilities *toilet paper *home owner insurance Etc etc etc….. We get paid after a guest checks out and after Airbnb ravages the final payout with added BS fees. The “Host” doesn’t hold as much dollar value as the “Guest” does to Airbnb. We are low on their tower of greed. They make their money off of guests that book! It’s that simple. They don’t care whatsoever about the homeowners rights/costs. We have zero protection and take on all of the risk! All the while getting fees added to our bottom line. Airbnb literally does NOTHING but sit back, maintain a website and count $. They are big greedy slobs that are slowly ruining our economy.
And BlackRock is pulling the strings of AirBnB and raking in all the real money that the company makes. They have been buying residential properties by the millions all around the USA.
Many statements are incorrect or exaggerated. At least in Europe, the total price is displayed on the first page. The EU government demanded this from Airbnb many years ago. It is inexplicable to me why the US government was so late in following suit. Even if the guest pays a cleaning fee, that doesn't mean that they can leave the house extremely dirty, littered and like a battlefield. I just had a case like that. Leaving things tidy doesn't mean that the accommodation has to be polished to a high shine. You can also use the toilet brush. This also does not cover any damage. House rules are necessary, otherwise Airbnb Support cannot provide support. Simple example. The guest brings more guests into the house than he booked. Without house rules, support remains idle and the host has to look into it. No guest will be cheated. Everything is written in black and white in the ad. Unfortunately, it is a fact that guests do not read the advertisements carefully before booking. So it doesn't hurt to read the reviews and house rules. When evaluating the listing, the grade is more important than the text. The text is usually too positive. Many hosts avoid describing the accommodation negatively. In return, many hosts describe the guest too positively because they hope that they will come back. The guest always has the opportunity to compare the prices between Airbnb and the hotel. And why shouldn't an Airbnb be more expensive than a hotel room when it offers so much more? I'm just thinking of a kitchen, a garden with a grill, a place where you can talk and celebrate with your friends undisturbed. It is true that hardly any guest wants to rent a single room. Almost everyone wants an entire place to themselves. Bookings on Airbnb are continually increasing. Only during Covid there was a slump.
The house rules are just ridiculous. No shoes in the house, take out the trash, wipe down all surfaces feral cats that live under the house so the neighbor comes to feed them. It's incredible. We have had hosts complain that their kitchen wasn't left clean. Why do I get charged to clean then. It's a ripoff now. I'm done.

You know the worst part? those greedy hosts will still come one top by just going back to long term renting, since there is less supply of houses in general. They won't make as much, but they'll still be fine...
Unfortunately you’re probably right…those that own real estate have a lot of leverage over those that do not. Worst of all, housing ownership is becoming more unaffordable for many people forcing them to rent off of someone else that will likely exploit the market situation.
Yes, they generated enough cash and income to buy the properties and we live in a capitalist world. Until that changes, your statement is basically obvious.
I stayed at vacation rentals which were not airbnb before. They still charge cleaning fee so I think unless you stay for 4,5 nights or more, there is no point staying at vacation rental or airbnb, a hotel or motel room is a more reasonable choice.
We used to own a wonderful home. Then the neighbors sold it and it became an air bnb rental party house. It was a nightmare and neither the new owners or the platform helped to reduce the all night noise, trash, fights, alcohol bottles or people blocking our entire driveway. It took us forever to sell the house and nothing was really done about the neighbors until the city got involved. I am not exactly sad about the downfall of air bnb
Today Airbnb is more expensive than hotel but doesnt even offer breakfast.. or the perks of hotels, like gym, spa, pool... I used to like it but not anymore
You have to look at it in a host's point of view. When someone books they have to worry if the guest will trash the place up. It takes a lot of effort and time to clean up a trashed up house.
During covid the government stopped eviction and ppl stopped paying rent. Let’s not blame re housing shortages all on Airbnb. Landlords lost millions lost homes has to sell home bc they had to pay for other ppl staying in their homes. So If someone can switch over to a system that they will get paid from they will. The government allowed ppl to live for free without any repercussions.
There’s certainly a lot of reasons for housing shortages. Airbnb and other rental services are just one of the many problems that have got us to this position. Let’s all hope the future means a return to some real estate normalcy.
The Airbnb stores their vacuum cleaner under the bed and claimed it was recommended by precious costumers. What a joke. Can’t say it’s too surprising. Airbnb shouldn’t be banned necessarily but I understand the frustration that has lead to certain areas banning it. Either it needs more regulation or we need to let the bad host fail in time (which they will).
I avoid Airbnb properties if I can. It started off as "hey, rent a spare room" and then turned into a full on business for a lot of people. Far too many have piled in because they think it's going to be easy money. Good content. I don't like the string plucking music though.
Their app allows guests to book rooms now. So if you’re looking for what the original business had to offer you can still find that. I’d say in most areas 1/3 of the listings will be affordable rooms for rent often adding more value than a hotel room for less. I agree renting an entire house or apartment isn’t the best choice for everyone.
I don't mind cleaning up after myself, after all, it's the right thing to do. Also, you forget that although an Airbnb might be the same price or more than a hotel. Often it sleeps far more people (3-4x) than a standard hotel room, and you have a full kitchen, living room, and private bedrooms with locking doors, and they are often in a way better location than the hotel by a highway exit ramp. And as far as cleaning fees go, even if I do the dishes before checking out, someone still needs to sweep, mop, wash sheets, make beds, and sanitize everything. I am willing to bet most hosts pay more for this service than the cleaning fee itself.
That’s certainly true! However we discovered that in many current experiences found from AirBnB users is that the cleaning fee requests often include things such as sweeping, trash disposal, cleaning the sheets etc. While everyone is different in terms of what they think is a reasonable expectation as a guest, it’s surely unfair to charge a high cleaning fee only to be told on arrival that you as the guest will be doing all the cleaning. Had that been disclosed prior to booking then the guest could decide if they want to do that or not. To surprise them on arrival is unfair no matter what way you look at it
@@RaisedMedia It seems a lot of Airbnb are now doing away with the cleaning fee altogether and just baking it into their overall nightly rate. Question: If you rent an Airbnb and don't pay a cleaning fee at all, would you still be upset with being asked to generally clean up after yourself?
@@PhoKingLitMediaIn general, we found that people were upset that they were charged for a cleaning fee despite being also required to do the cleaning themselves as well. Everyone, regardless if it's a hotel or Airbnb should be expected to clean up after themselves. It is very hard for a host to convince their guest that it's reasonable for them to do anything above the reasonable expectation of general cleanliness. Stripping the sheets, laundry, garbage disposal etc for many guests is simply not reasonable to them. It doesn't matter how the host decides to fund their cleaning crew, but the guests shouldn't be required to do the extra cleaning. Baking that cost into the nightly rate is fine and removes the checkout ripoff of a surprise high cleaning fee but that only solves one of the issues. Some hosts are simply too entitled and forget that their guest is a paying guest, not your buddy that's crashing there for free.
The hosts I have encountered my last few stays are sooooo arrogant. I decided to fix up my own house and landscaping and stay home. I'm done. Airlines pack you and treat you like cattle. No thanks, it's over
@@PhoKingLitMedia No you are so far off. Airbnb's that have the whole place are far more expensive than hotels, not close to the same. No breakfasts included, more liability as a guest, etc. I say this as someone who has an Airbnb too lol. But when we look to stay somewhere, hotels are always cheaper now, in the past it wasnt the case but now its almost never worth it. Its the only option for people with pet requirements or lots of family, but not cheaper. you can pack alot of kiddos in a two queen room of a hotel btw and have breakfast and lunch (take breakfast items to go after eating breakfast) free every day.
@@RaisedMedia this coverage of AirBnB just seemed a bit sensational.... or perhaps localized to some specific territory? Since AirBnB is a global business at this point, it may be hard to get an accurate picture; after all, most of the people I know use AirBnB as their default search for accommodation when they travel. And they don't have these issues mentioned in the video. (For context, I am based in Southeast Asia).
You’re right it is sensational! It’s meant to be entertaining, but based on truth. Airbnb is a public company so access to their financial details, bookings etc is all public information. The subjective material was all taken from interviews from hosts and guests to get their perspective on the issues.
@@RaisedMedia Yeah, but I don't think they are doing as badly as your video suggests... the way you were portraying the company, it seems like they are on the verge of collapse? or going bust?
The actual term “Airbinbust” isn’t about the company itself. It’s about the hosts that are going bust. Many hosts that over leveraged themselves simply cannot handle a downturn in the economy and a slowdown of bookings, causing them to quit or have large investment losses. The company itself still doesn’t make money but can rely on investors to continue operating. I made that distinction at the end of the video.
Comparing Airbnbs to hotels is like comparing apples to oranges. Not everyone's idea of a trip or vacation involves squeezing your family or group into a 10x10 corporately designed box in some high-rise building. Most Airbnb hosts offer 10x the space and other features that you couldn't possibly get from a hotel. With regards to a group or family, imagine having having your own private bedroom and/or bathroom. Or making a home-cooked meal and gathering around a dining table to share that meal. The typical hotel couldn't pull this off and that's why it often costs more for an Airbnb. Airbnb is, for the most part, a vacation rental platform. Prior to Airbnb, you would have to use search engines or reach out to the local real estate company to find vacation rentals. Airbnb globalized and simplified that process. The problem is that the Airbnb market is now oversaturated. The mediocre, get-rich hosts will fail and learn their lesson while those who actually know what they are doing and care about the guest experience will continue onwards.
Great summary! Airbnb without a doubt has a more unique offering compared to hotels. Everything you said is true. This video is intended to dismiss the idea that Airbnb disrupts the hotel industry because for the reasons you have mentioned, it’s not really meant to be comparable to a hotel. Airbnbs now just need a reset, where the authentic and good intentioned hosts prevail, not the ones that want to run it like a hotel and maximize profits.
@@jenny-DD Clearly you missed the major points of my response. The author of this video negatively compares Airbnbs with hotels. And I'm saying that you can't compare the two because they are completely different products...but you seem hard at comprehending or having an intellectual conversation. Hope you treat your guests better lol.
Not every AirBnB charges a cleaning fee but if they do DONT PICK IT, not hard to figure out. I own my cabin, and I rent it on AirBnB and I like the set up, you use inflated numbers to exaggerate how much people pay, why? If you want to have to share a common space with trashy people in a high rise building have at it, people should have a say where they stay, you putting down AirBnB to discourage people is crappy. There are reviews for a reason, read them before making a decision, and there are final numbers given for cost before you purchase, not hidden at all.
You might be an outlier! Buying the property in cash and still having a high occupancy rate is what all Airbnb hosts strive for however many don’t achieve it
The chocolate is the worst analogy you could use cause that's exactly what happens with sales tax lol look at chips they used to be a dollar but now they almost three bucks with skimped out ingredients and not as much quality or quality as before :/
I’m not sure you understand the analogy. Nobody is upset that Airbnb charges sales tax, that is expected. Users are upset that the advertised price does not include the hidden fees. The sales tax is calculated AFTER totalling the hidden fees. It’s deceptive and not how normal commerce works.
I'm here bc I just got screwed on what was supposed to be a spa like stay - $400 Christmas present - that was so bad, unclean, and gross, with unusable amenities, and AirBnB won't refund bc I didn't know about AirCover. Ohhhh I've never wished for a Twitter following like right now!

Its the only option for people with pet requirements or lots of family, but not cheaper. you can pack alot of kiddos in a two queen room of a hotel btw and have breakfast and lunch (take breakfast items to go after eating breakfast) free every day.
no shot this guy only has 619 subs?
Slow and steady wins the race!
Airbnb sucks I filled chargeback on frivolous charges
Did the chargeback work?
@@RaisedMedia I did as fraud, so we'll see
It was done though my bank app and not a live person
Curious to see if they would accept it!
Subbed!
Thank you!
Is this video even data-backed?
Yes! Is there something you want more information on?
I HATE Airbnb
Airbnb = Intruder Alert ⚠️⚠️
Lol
Our Bed and Breakfast is Not Corporate fool
The reasons you listed completely ignore the problems with Airbnb. The negative impact it has on the housing market is really bad.
Says the greatest host ever😂😂😂😂😂
Not every AirBnB charges a cleaning fee but if they do DONT PICK IT, not hard to figure out. I own my cabin, and I rent it on AirBnB and I like the set up, you use inflated numbers to exaggerate how much people pay, why? If you want to have to share a common space with trashy people in a high rise building have at it, people should have a say where they stay, you putting down AirBnB to discourage people is crappy. There are reviews for a reason, read them before making a decision, and there are final numbers given for cost before you purchase, not hidden at all.
👍
I bought my properties with cash and my occupancy never falls below 90% and it's getting stronger and stronger. I don't understand any of this....
You might be an outlier! Buying the property in cash and still having a high occupancy rate is what all Airbnb hosts strive for however many don’t achieve it
Location location location.
I am so sorry to hear that. Your experience is unfortunate but seems to be more common as time goes on. I hope one day you’ll get to enjoy the spa day you deserve!
Its overpriced and sketchy
