Nothing worse than subscribing to something and immediately finding that that product or service is only with the 'premium subscription.' It's called bait and switch. I find the fear of missing out is actually worse than missing out. Unsubscribing is very liberating.
The only way to stop this madness is to stop paying for subscriptions. If there is no legal way to buy a product forever, I pirate it. Sorry, but you give me no choice.
I prefer sub services as Id rather have access to a ton of content cheap even if some gets rotated in and out than have to buy everything I wants on physical media, which I could never afford.
I’m sick of all these companies doing this.. like any newspaper you click on, start reading then it tries to get you to sign up to a £15 subscription!! £15 juts to sub to ONE news channel WTF! When I heard BMW were going to introduce subscriptions to use the features in the car I was livid!! £18 a months to use the heated seats WTF!!! Now ford are doing it 🤦🏻♂️
Oh yeah. I was looking up old news articles from when I played football in high school from 15 years ago and the newspaper had the audacity to put a paywall on everything! Even articles that are 15 years old
Just build things to last again. That's true sustainability. People will always want to own their appliances, tools, cars, houses, clothes. Corporations just keep coming up with new scams to screw people.
So true. Unfortunately greedy corporations might pretend they are sustainable, but like you said, true sustainability would be making their products actually last yet the subscription model directly conflicts with that.
As a lifelong gamer, I can relate to this. It wasn't until a few years ago that I had to start regularly buying new controllers because the sticks develop drift, something that never happened in any of my older controllers. My GC controller has months worth of playtime with just Smash alone and still works fine, no drift. This wasn't a problem two to three console gens ago, why is it suddenly a problem now?
Ikr man I downloaded 4 analog camera apps today all of them somehow shoving a subscription model in my face like wth bro I ain't paying a fortune just to snap some photos, actual drones that don't understand what quality is anymore you could even remove all paywall aspects from them and nothing would change I don't get what's complicated about that
isn't subscription model what we use for property, via property tax? If we don't pay our annual subscription (property tax), the govt will come in and cancel it (evict us from our property, even if the house on it was paid off).
Yeah dude, it's like needing to pay a subscription to just eat carrots and peas, then one to eat potatoes and drink milk, and then another one to eat steak and chicken, and then another one to eat bread. Subscriptions were cool at first, but since EVERYONE has one, they suck now. With streaming services, we're back to just paying the price we paid for Cable back in the day. It sucks! Haha great video man!
Here's are some things that you can do to fix the subscription blues: First, cancel all your subscriptions then do the following: * go outside * read a book * get some exercise * talk to a (real) friend * learn something of substance through persistent focused study * cook a meal * ride a bike * paint the house * learn to build furniture * cook a gourmet meal * go camping * learn a musical instrument * learn computer programming * go visit a place you haven't been before * practice photography * exercise some patience and learn to use open source software * clean the house * learn geology * learn a new language * exercise some imagination and extend this list
Awesome content. Been pondering a while how we're being forced to subscribe for everything and was happy to stumble upon your video. Guess we're entering the age of three certain things - death, taxes and subscriptions.
They are trying to do exactly that. I'm 23 yo and I can't believe everyone is paying for Spotify. I just download the song I like and thats it, just like the good old days of 2010.
1) isn't subscription model what we use for property, via property tax? If we don't pay our annual subscription (property tax), the govt will come in and cancel it (evict us from our property, even if the house on it was paid off). 2) wonder if another company will come along and agglomeration the streaming companies' content so you only need to subscribe to that company to get everything (or select things) from Netflix, Disney+, Hulu, etc)? Iirc, Huffpo was an agglomeration company that didn't produce its own news, but merely paid for others and combined all the news on one site for their customer.
Adobe moved from a subscription based model, so you have to pay them to use their software. Then HP somehow moved to a subscription based model for hardware. You already paid for the printer, you paid for the ink cartridges, you paid for the paper. So you should be good right? Nope. They make the printer always online so they can track how many pages you print and charge you per page. How does that make any kind of sense? Sorry kids, you can't use that coloring book and those crayons, I'm going to have to charge you per page and per crayon to use it.
Louis Rossman talks about it - I recommend watching his video by the way. Like literally, paying customers are treated worse or have a worse user experience than hacked customers. Sometimes you can even pay less for a product/service and get a better experience than the higher tiered paid version..
He has great content! Haven't seen that particular video you mention will have to check it out. I used to watch lot's of his hardware breakdown videos.
What I hate most is that they have the right to just grab your money out of your bank accounts as they see fit. If there's an increase in their fee, so what? You didn't budget for it, but too bad for you.
As much as I love the convenience Spotify offers for music (especially while driving), I much prefer my CDs from the '90s and early 2000s....because they were mine. "Life, liberty, and property."

Wow…Thank you for watching multiple videos and sharing the nice words. I don’t have a lot of time to work on these videos and I often doubt myself if it’s worth it to spend my little free time to make them but comments like this tell me that it is. Really appreciate it
I sign up to all subscriptions using a virtual credit card. I cancel the card immediately afterwards. Then repeat for any new subscriptions. This way I only ever pay for a single period. And if I want to use the service for another period I do the same again. That way I never get billed for a service I am not using
The worst thing about subscription models is that they were ONCE great. Netflix was dirt cheap and gave access to many things for a single consistent price. Now it's transitioned into paying a full price ($30) per month for a product that would originally have been worth only $30 for a one time purchase
Governments need to step in and stop the "subscription" nonsense and require businesses like Spotify, Adobe and Microsoft to sell an option where people can buy their product outright rather than paying a fee over and over again. At this point, would rather pay $100 or even $1000 just to buy software like Adobe Photoshop and illustrator. I'm not rich, and i don't want to be paying ridiculous prices just to use software like MS Word. My Mother uses an older version of Adobe illustrator where you don't have to pay a ridiculous price just to be able to use it.
I'd much prefer going back to the huge upfront price for software, then using said software for 12 years until i simply must buy the new version. Since they still need the software to be affordable enough to buy in the first place, it'll still be cheaper long term than a subscription. It also properly financially incentivizes product IMPROVEMENT instead of product maintenance/churn.
Definitely agree with 99% of what u said but with spotify a lot of value also comes in it's algorithm recommending you music based on what you listen to as well imo.
That can be a good practice! There’s actually a few companies that offer online pre-paid credit cards that let you sign up for free trials without eventually getting charged or ensure your subscription is cancelled for you if you forget. It’s definitely a problem lots of people are facing
The only time I get subscription is when I want to see something specific on a platform, once I'm done, I quickly end my membership with preference of using trial / promo rate while using the service. The content of some of those platforms is really low tier. Spotify / Pandora algorithms kept pushing me remixes of songs that I like, which felt like getting RC Cola at the store instead of an actual Coke. I do use Amazon prime on occasion when it offers $1 a week trial, since it is cheaper than a singe shipping fee. Life of a cheapskate feels great! 😁
There's a few other logical inconsistencies in the video too, but I'm honestly really surprised you aren't a bigger channel, the production quality is definitely there, big potential!
I just think the same like several hours ago and find your video. It just feels weird, especially since I am the type that actually can listen to a song for like a month, the same song. Thanks for the video
I save like $200 after I stopped Spotify. I was thinking to myself “it was $15, now it’s $17.. won’t it just go up and up?” My mum then told me how much that is a year and it shocked me. I’m not into any other services. Netflix isn’t my thing. There are some app subscriptions I’m into for colouring, as they kind of “force” you into it, because the ads pop up and you can’t get out of them. But I’m not caving in. It’s not worth it. I’d rather have a physical colouring book now.
Check out our recent video on Spotify, you might be even more glad you stopped it after seeing what kind of damage they are doing to the music industry.
Anytime an app or tool comes out with a subscription, I am immediately out. I wanted to learn video editing with Adobe premiere pro but opted for Final Cut because it’s not a subscription. Amazon prime? I was losing money with Amazon prime. Amazon said I saved $89 last year with prime but that wasn’t counting the $120 a year so I lost money. Cloud storage? I moved most of my stuff to an SSD that’s important and anything that is critical files to keep, I have on another flash drive as well as backup. For photoshop, I moved to Affinity instead. Not as robust as photoshop but I’m just an amateur photographer. Streaming services, I try to keep it as lean as possible on that. My biggest regret was buying ebooks because it’s a licensing purchase instead of a book purchase. I decided to start buying paper books again. My rule in digital products is that if I use it everyday, I’ll subscribe. I’ve seen some content creators that produce something once a month or less and have subscription open (which I find is ridiculous).
I’ve been subscription weeding lately and I’ve cut it down to just my internet, phone plan, RUclips premium family plan and Amazon prime. That’s probably the best I can do at the moment. Prime is too good a value in my country for now. As soon as they jack the price I’m out. RUclips is unwatchable without premium. Also I only pay a fraction since we all pay a share. I’m leaving all other video and music streaming for blurays, dvds and cds again. Rip them and now I can listen or watch it on anything. No more gaming subscriptions because they’re the ultimate scam.
I like unsubscribing from streaming services after watching one thing as its like a big f*** you to the companies. And then I go buy a physical version of the shows or movies I like when possible. Or hit the high seas and play pirate.
The issue with subscription models, is that it is using a crowd source funding yet decreasing the value of their subscription. But increasing the costs that people are required to pay, this breaks the illusion of it being a good value. And this is why regulation for these kinds of services needs to be prevelent. a.k.a 80's and 90 kids remember those magazines about building a t-rex model, a ship or a tank, ended up being 300 dollars for a 20 dollar Figure. This isn't a new thing.
Speaking of PS and Xbox subscriptions, they're $80 on top of buying internet, forced new systems and everything else. PC is free, can be portable and you have more controller options. Has it's flaws but free.
i have one subscription and tbh i openly seek out options where i can own something outright. lifes alot better that way. i used to have one subscription and thats not limited per catagory. but right now im not subscribed to anything. as subscriptions grow i find myself desiring older tech more and more. finding the newer stuff just evil garbage that doesnt have a benefit worth justifying the ongoing costs
i wanted to make a video about this, some services supposedly free (and monetised through ads and/or data collection) are now also charging people money. people are clearly willing to spend money, but they didn't care about how much people can even afford. exclusivity has enabled these practice and some of them even exercising copyright in an exploitative manner. subscription-only things and any service proactively taking actions against people engaging in leaking/piracy/etc. are very likely going even worse over time, so don't pay for it. among the VTuber industry, most likely you end up hearing them wanting to set up memberships. but the point is, it is most likely ends up in Google more than the actual creators. a lot of Nintendo's games are only on its Switch, and there are already features locked behind its online service.
You’re right, we’ve seen how lucrative subscriptions can be for companies as an additional revenue source. It’s too hard for them pass up the easy money.
The most ridiculous thing i've ever heard of as a subscription was a motorcycle airbag vest that cost like 150 something per year after you also buy it, imagine you forget to pay a month it stops working even in an accident 🤣
People don't know this but imagine a pace maker with a subscription fee? Thats the worst idea I could think of it could actually come to. Where they could shut it off as they like :( Its literally a world where your life is in corporation's hands.
That quip on the coof Imagine song was brilliant. Also finally makes everything come together. John Lennon was just a tool of WEF, if you just listen to the song you might miss the obvious connection.
Excellent video! I enjoyed the content and as many have said, I thought you are a much bigger channel! Keep up the good work! This was something I was thinking and discussing a few days ago with someone. But we focused primarily on platforms offering MOOC courses. It's all down to are you getting enough bang for your buck. Keep up the good work! You have my subscription and I'll do my best to recommend this channel :D
440 subscribers and only 7 videos. haaa i thought when i watching this video it was something like *Vox* channel. hope you will reach more as faster than as expected. gud luck 👍
@5:10 Wow. So, the cost for these features isn't derived from parts and labor. It's purely a function forcing higher price points. If it's cheaper to install the hardware for everyone and charge for anyone using it, won't this increase the standard price for people who never use the feature? If not, why hobble the car's standard feature set and give people a better product for less money? They told on themselves with this one.
When I played Animal Jam I got the subscription membership and if I didn't pay alot of my items where locked away unlike Roblox where you can keep up items even without premium subscription.
I do nothing by auto withdrawal except my bank mortgage.. when the fitness co said we need a check acct to enroll.. really. Not happening. I pulled cable years ago.. pretty old school raised by depression era parents.. seen too much grifting..
Luckily i held on to my dvd's and will be keeping them forever steaming services are just way too annoying to use and i absolutely hate when somehing switches to another service fuck that noice i rather either keep buying dvds or just go back to old faithfull early 2000 era.
I dont see how it can be sustainable....not everything can be a subscription and eventually people will have to make a choice. The problem for companies is, that the subscription model really is the best business model, and they are forced to show investors/the markets that they are thinking about implementing it somehow. (P.S. on a side note: the porn industry have traditionally been pioneers of the subscription model, which is the main way they make a lot of money despite porn being free. They make it super easy to sign up just to see that one video...then make it super hard to unsubscribe....and by the time you do, you've paid at least 3 or 4 months of payment.
Gym memberships are the same way! It’s very easy to sign up but hard to cancel. California has passed legislation that requires if you can signup online, you must be able to cancel online.
@@RaisedMedia **Good thing most of the country lives in red states outside California, where similar consumer protection policies don't exist like that, amirite?!** LOL /s
You didn't even mention the fact that, especially with music, you're basically paying for a service that can take anything away at any time, WHY WOULD YOU WANT TO PAY FOR THIS??? Sure, take my money to take something away....
Yeah, it sucks. But, what ever happened to personal responsibility? Their customers are adults, let them take some responsibility for once in their life!
Cut out these crazy paywalls, make online database access free of charge without a library /student ID card, ie ProQuest - yes I'm looking at you, major magazines as well.
I think that Software *May* be an exception. After all, No company would continue to Update their Software, If they aren't going to make any Money by doing It. They'd much rather Just let It be, and at some Point this would lead to the products having Bugs or Security issues (depending on the Type of Software). If instead there's subsctiptions, at least in theory there is this incentive for the company to improve the Service, in Order to retain old customers and get new Users to Join. Note: my Point is only Standing for Software! Products shouldn't be paid for in subsctiptions (BMW heating for example)
That’s a valid point! Previously pre-subscription software had a shelf life where the software companies would provide updates and ensure it is stable.
I have had the endless updates and bug fixes, make things worse! Let's try but fix before you sell it! Microsoft started this, all of the users were his free testers, without knowing it.
It seems like most software updates are purely cosmetic. Can anyone actually tell, even using a beloved service, what's actually changed with it? Most people aren't tech savvy enough to sense security updates, visual updates keep you stuck finding the same tasks within the software for longer than it used to take because it was put somewhere else or renamed entirely, it's a mess. Being a cynical person is increasingly easy these days but you can't sit there and say it makes any sense when you really bother to look at just how frequent it is. If people are trying to hack your sh*t that often, maybe make a finished product before putting it out for people to BUY and use.
Wow, I was watching this video thinking it was by a channel with a couple hundred thousand subscribers. Keep it up
Thank you! Means a lot
I was thinking the same. I was expecting to be a big channel judging the quality of the video but it has 200+ subs. I'm impressed.
I had 60 subs before I posted this video! Thanks to you guys we are growing!
@ 400 now

My rule in digital products is that if I use it everyday, I’ll subscribe. I’ve seen some content creators that produce something once a month or less and have subscription open (which I find is ridiculous).
I pay $463 every month for all the monthly charges! Including Tmobile $178 (4 people and I just got Iphone 14) and Verizon $158 with TV.
Wow that’s a lot! Unfortunately, you can likely expect in the future you’ll be forced to pay more subscriptions.
Subscriptions is almost extortion.
I like unsubscribing from streaming services after watching one thing as its like a big f*** you to the companies. And then I go buy a physical version of the shows or movies I like when possible. Or hit the high seas and play pirate.
I am totally support you on this one and the video is of great quality! Best wishes with your channel!
Thank you!!
I looked at your sub count and wow I didn’t think you just had 456 subs! You deserve more imo.
Thank you! Hopefully this video is pushed to more people so we can grow!
"You will own nothing and be happy"
Good video, opened my eyes more too, thanks 👍
Thank you for the nice comment
The issue with subscription models, is that it is using a crowd source funding yet decreasing the value of their subscription. But increasing the costs that people are required to pay, this breaks the illusion of it being a good value. And this is why regulation for these kinds of services needs to be prevelent. a.k.a 80's and 90 kids remember those magazines about building a t-rex model, a ship or a tank, ended up being 300 dollars for a 20 dollar Figure. This isn't a new thing.
It’s inevitable that subscriptions will lose value of over time.
Speaking of PS and Xbox subscriptions, they're $80 on top of buying internet, forced new systems and everything else. PC is free, can be portable and you have more controller options. Has it's flaws but free.
I don't want to subscribe. Where can I buy this video?
That will be $5.99 😉
I find great irony in clicking the "subscribe" button.
Hey, at least subscribing to this channel is free!
i have one subscription and tbh i openly seek out options where i can own something outright. lifes alot better that way.
i used to have one subscription and thats not limited per catagory. but right now im not subscribed to anything. as subscriptions grow i find myself desiring older tech more and more. finding the newer stuff just evil garbage that doesnt have a benefit worth justifying the ongoing costs
i wanted to make a video about this, some services supposedly free (and monetised through ads and/or data collection) are now also charging people money. people are clearly willing to spend money, but they didn't care about how much people can even afford. exclusivity has enabled these practice and some of them even exercising copyright in an exploitative manner. subscription-only things and any service proactively taking actions against people engaging in leaking/piracy/etc. are very likely going even worse over time, so don't pay for it.
among the VTuber industry, most likely you end up hearing them wanting to set up memberships. but the point is, it is most likely ends up in Google more than the actual creators. a lot of Nintendo's games are only on its Switch, and there are already features locked behind its online service.
The only subscription I have is a $5 hulu/spotify/showtime student monthy subscription, fuck all that shit
Unfortunately, at this rate it’s likely in the next few years you’ll be forced into more subscriptions as the only option to purchase a product.
Really awesime video. Thank you.
Thank you too!
People don't know this but imagine a pace maker with a subscription fee? Thats the worst idea I could think of it could actually come to. Where they could shut it off as they like :( Its literally a world where your life is in corporation's hands.
Wow. I expected you to have more subscribers.
Good video + 1 new sub👍🏾
Appreciate it!!!
That quip on the coof Imagine song was brilliant.
Also finally makes everything come together. John Lennon was just a tool of WEF, if you just listen to the song you might miss the obvious connection.
Netflix is TRASH I’ve always known this. HBO max on the other hand… amazing 🔥🔥🔥
I hate this corporate thinking money hungry world. Fuck the government.
... and the only appliances that will be available for rent will be surveillance smart products.
That ending call to action was so smooth that I unsubscribed just so I could subscribe again
Thank you for the continued support!
Hopefully one day it will be a much bigger channel! Thank you for the support
nice work! i hope you get more views
Thanks man! I hope so too haha
hmmmm rental would.
own nothing and be happy about it.
I occasionally buy CD even though I get most of my music from Spotify. Because I CAN own a CD...
Sometimes ownership of something just feels good!
one of the first subscribers. I think this is going to be a great ride. Hope great content follows. love you
Love you too!
440 subscribers and only 7 videos. haaa i thought when i watching this video it was something like *Vox* channel.
hope you will reach more as faster than as expected. gud luck 👍
You to rent or buy a movie, that was free on TV a few years ago.
Good video. Very well made!
Thank you for the compliment!
Getting to keep items items after the subscription ends seems a lot more fair!
I don't have a single subscription service. What am I missing?
You’re missing out on some expensive monthly bills!
bro that last lin e was pretty sick you get a subscribtion
Thank you! Glad it worked
Man where is the federal government when you need them. Government is a complete joke and clown show when it comes to corporations
Amazing content. Here before this channel blows up
Thank you!!!
You will own nothing and be happy 😂

Great video!
Thank you!
Hp is charging pages printed per month
That’s crazy!!
good video. Could use some work on audio transitions, it feels a little choppy
Thanks for the advice. I agree!
amazing video hard to understand how you have less than 1k subs
Thank you, hopefully one day!
I have a student, showtime, hulu, and spotify subscription and that's the only subscription ill ever have
idk if you’re showing your apple music songs but our music library is so similar, i thought someone hacked my account ! great music taste i must say
It’s mine! My library is all over the place haha
I do nothing by auto withdrawal except my bank mortgage.. when the fitness co said we need a check acct to enroll.. really. Not happening. I pulled cable years ago.. pretty old school raised by depression era parents.. seen too much grifting..
*nods along in agreement* I deadass just unsubscribed from about...40 things? I'll be setting that money aside to pay down debt instead
never buying any of this garbage
I don't see how the average American lives without debt if they have all of these things. It's nuts.
Luckily i held on to my dvd's and will be keeping them forever steaming services are just way too annoying to use and i absolutely hate when somehing switches to another service fuck that noice i rather either keep buying dvds or just go back to old faithfull early 2000 era.
You'll own nothing, and be happy.
Okay :(
I dont see how it can be sustainable....not everything can be a subscription and eventually people will have to make a choice.
@@RaisedMedia **Good thing most of the country lives in red states outside California, where similar consumer protection policies don't exist like that, amirite?!** LOL /s
god... this is sad. I try to not sub for a plan as much as a can. anything! that's one time pay I will get it
Yes. It’s sad and pathetic.
Google made gmail worse with subscriptions for 100GB STORAGE SPACE???
You didn't even mention the fact that, especially with music, you're basically paying for a service that can take anything away at any time, WHY WOULD YOU WANT TO PAY FOR THIS???
Sure, take my money to take something away....
Yeah, it sucks. But, what ever happened to personal responsibility? Their customers are adults, let them take some responsibility for once in their life!
LaaS, Life as a Service, if you miss a payment you forfeit. God forbid it comes to pass
I hate You can’t learn guitar without a subscription
Cut out these crazy paywalls, make online database access free of charge without a library /student ID card, ie ProQuest - yes I'm looking at you, major magazines as well.
I prefer dvd
@@RaisedMedia but for how Long?
Completely depends on the product. Usually a few years at the very least and the product would be very stable (not requiring bug fixes).
What show is that gym footage from?
