My name is Mike and I'm an overlander based out of Oregon. I explore the thousands of square miles of public lands and national forests in Oregon in my Jeep Wrangler Rubicon with my dog Scout. I'm passionate about exploring the backcountry and scouting new and exciting routes. My aim is to capture and share my explorations to inspire folks to venture out and explore the backcountry themselves.
I really enjoy the engagement this channel has provided and hope to see you out on the trail!

On this episode I join my friends from the Salem Jeepers club for a day of wheeling at Cline Buttes. We left more competent in our off-road skills and with a better understanding of the capabilities of our rigs. Over the past few years I’ve gravitated towards the “wheeling” side of off-roading and I’m much more confident in my rig and willing to tackle some of the rougher roads I’ve encountered...

Man I can’t wait to go back. That was such a fun trip.
Such a great trip! Looking forward to going back too. Hopefully with a dedicated rig though! And a trailer;)
Man…where ya been! lol I was a subscriber and thought you were done a while back. Subbing again. Excellent video.
Ah, life happens! It’s good to be back. Thanks my friend!!
Nice video! That white jeep driver has no biz being on that trail wow😢
Thanks brother! He’s actually really good and spotted me through all of the tough stuff. We are by far not perfect but make a good team. Every time we go out we get better though.
The one I've been waiting for!!! I'm planning to run this (along with the NCAL BDR) next summer.
Right on Dan! That sounds like it's going to be an amazing trip! This was defiently one of the best trips I've ever taken.
@@OverlandScout81 It definitely didn't suck! I'm watching during my lunch break while I drive this keyboard and chair. Thanks for the efforts and time invested to put these vids out for the rest of us to research and enjoy! Adventure on!
@@danmulkiewicz5515 brother, I really appreciate the kind words! I’m trying hard to improve with every video and it means a lot. Thank you my friend!
Great video! Very well done! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Thanks my friend!
Ok, let’s address the white elephant in the room. Can a 2021 JLUR (the hood says “Rubicon”!) with a Mopar 2” lift and 315/70/17c tires do the Rubicon trail? How much damage will it have at the end? Will I be able to drive back home? #tongueincheek
Yes, it’s doable but you’ll likely need to winch a bit and you’ll definitely be scraping the underbelly. We did some of the harder sections but there are easier bypasses at a few spots. I broke a stock rear control arm in half and recommend upgrading your control arms before going as you’ll likely be scraping and bashing on them. One guy in our group was on 33” and he made it. He did need to winch a bit and got hung up a fair amount though. Go slow and steady and pick good lines and you should be ok. It’s an incredible experience and I say go for it!
My grandpa plays in the brass band festival in silverton every year. This pass is boring. I know it like the back of my dick.
Cool video. The hype is much more then the actual trail. There’s much much worse in that area of Souther Colorado. Beautiful country. Just takes a little but for many to get use to the heights. We’ll be back in Lake City in a few weeks.
Looks like a fun mtn bike ride
We ran into a few hikers but mountain biking would be fun too. Just don’t fly over the handle bars! I got into mountain biking a few years back and have had my fare share of spills, lol!
Great video! Are you accepting sponsored products?
Your content is awesome! ! Are you accepting sponsored products?
nice vid, but I gotta ask, will a full size 22' pickup get it done ?
A few guys commented they did it in their full size trucks. It’s definitely doable but they all said they wouldn’t do it again. I’d say you need to know your rig and be very confident with it. Good luck if you try it my friend. It’s definitely an amazing experience.
What a beautiful place! That camp site was amazing. Looked like a good time with friends 👍
Great job
Those are some amazing camp spots.
That entire area is incredible. Views on both sides of the first camp.
Love seeing the adventure in the jeeps. Keep it rolling.
Thanks my friend! We’re headed to the Rubicon trail tomorrow but will be back in Oregon for more adventures after that.
@@OverlandScout81 Be safe Can't wait to see that adventure.
I did it in 2019 with my Tacoma that had a 1000lbs slide in truck bed camper
Right on! That took some skill for sure!
Dad your voice got 10 times deeper in the voice over 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
Ha! Yes it did. I’m still working on getting the voice over sound dialed in.
Guess who's back, back again! Great video my friend! See you on the trails
Right on my friend!
It looks absolutely epic out there. Great video!
Thank you my friend! Great channel you have. Hit me up if you ever head out this way.
I'll do that!
Great to see you back man! I caught the Black Bear Pass video as well. Beautiful country. 🙏🏼
Thank you my friend! Really appreciate it!
Looks like an amazing trip with a great group! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Thanks my friend! One of my favorite regions of the state and the best trail mates a guy could as for.
Glad to see you putting out some more videos! I was wondering what happened to you. Looks like some great terrain to explore there. Still a spot open for you in September if you are interested in coming along with us. George.
Hey George! Life throws you curve balls sometime but coming-out better on the other end! Is this your big trip across Idaho? What are the dates in September?
@@OverlandScout81 Yes. Sep 14-21.
Happy to see the new videos dropping!
Thanks my friend! Really appreciate it!
Yay!!
We've missed you!! It's great to see you back again, your work is beautiful as always, excellent photography, content! I hope you continue producing!!
Thanks Jen! It's great to be back and really appreciate the kind words!
Missed your content, nice to see you back.

Yes! Another video! Keep em coming brother! :)
Thank you my friend!
It was great hitting the trail with old trail mates! Oregon is an amazing place and looking forward to future adventures.
Watching this video my heart was racing , bringing the memories from the last time I drove this pass with my FJ Crusier. Beautiful scenery, fun and cool trail, but definitely is not for the faint of heart. Great video, it seems that you guys had fun!!
Thanks my friend! It's definitely not for the faint of heart and a right of passage for sure!
For this trail, went down it in a stock Wrangler Rubicon unlimited 4xe. Followed a group of instagram built out vehicles with 40s and jacked up, probably spent more on mods than vehicle. After I saw them go, I knew I had it made, Those jacked up, wide, long, heavy, high center of mass vehicles aren’t your friend on off camber and tight trails like black bear. Just take the right line on the steps, I don’t think I got over 20 deg off camber but had a 25 down angle at one point. Never had more than a 3 pt turn on any of the switchbacks. The instagram beauties took 7 point turns. I might have scraped bottom 3-4 times though.
Wanted to try it over 4th of July weekend, but it was still closed. Some locals said it would open in a couple of weeks. Got to do Engineer and Imogene though, Engineer was pretty sweet. Just means I have to go back next year for Black Bear I guess lol.
I heard it just opened a few days ago. A good reason to come back next year though! I really enjoyed engineering pass.
Nice video! I've done the trail several times in my '02 4Runner, always a blast, with a pucker factor of 10+!
Thanks my friend! Some pucker factor for sure!
Great video.. headed there this weekend and I’m a little nervous of course..
We were all nervous but we had a good team and it’s totally doable. Hope you have a great trip my friend!

Black Bear Pass opened for the 2024 season today, 7/10/24. Please stay the trail and obey any and all laws/rules. The sheriff can and will close it if he deems it too unsafe for public use. The amount of revenue Telluride receives from off road travelers isn’t much in comparison to those wealthy folks that drive on the pavement or fly in.
Great to hear! Thanks for posting.
Technically Schofield Pass is the most dangerous and deadly in Colorado
Truth
I’m coming back Colorado to do some of these tougher trails for sure.
Decent control button???? WFT, PLZ JUST LET ME PASS!!!
Every group has one full send it guy, lol!
I've been off-roading with my father (now passed) since I was big enough to be in a front facing car seat. The first thing I drove was his cj 5, so the Allen Jackson song "Drive" hits me hard. I started driving myself on trails when I was 15 and was a trail guide for the Daniel Boone jeep jamboree in the 90s. My father ran that one for 10 years. I have been off-roading all over America and have done a few 10 ratings in my 81, V8 jeep scrambler. I've not been off-roading in years, so coming across this video really brought back memories. I'm glad to see people still enjoying this. I think I did black bear thr last time at age 21, and I'm 51 now. Little deeper ruts these days. Take care all. Also, what's up with jeepers putting ducks on the dash? Lol
Love your comment. I have fond memories of exploring with my dad too. Thanks for sharing!
This looks like a ton of fun. I'll have to try this area sometime.
It’s a great OHV park and I regularly go there for skill building. Definitely worth going if you are in the area!
Get there during the busy season and it's one hell of a traffic jam. Did it on my motorcycle 2 years ago and fortunately all the jeeps let me pass when able. Otherwise, it would have been hours of sitting still.
Yep, it can get a bit busy. We had a group in front and behind us but it went smoothly. We let a few motorcycles pass us the trail too.
WHy WHY would anyone want to do this trail?
Being a little crazy helps! Ha!
Why, why, would any 4 wheeler NOT want to do this pass??? It's a GREAT trail!
@@joesmith1922 MAybe the cliff and the pucker factor! The image of that jeep rolling down the trail.
Pucker factor - 10/10. I can't believe you guys did that.
After each nerve racking run I tell myself it’s the last one…but that only lasts a short bit!
Have about decided that bbp is maybe not a trail I have to do. Great video
Yeah, being a little crazy probably helps!
Great view, great music, great jeep's, great job. Had to sub.
Thanks my friend!
My great grandfather made that road
Nice! I’m sure that’s quite the story.

Epic adventure)))
Looks like a beautiful route, but, damn... I've seen vids of full-size trucks doing it, but I'm WAY too new to this (just bought my first serious truck) to even attempt it, especially since with my midsize (2024 Colorado ZR2) it's even longer than the Rubicon 4dr. Honestly, I'd feel more comfortable doing this on my KTM 890 Adventure R since the route wouldn't be so narrow for that. Nice vid!
One of the finest Colorado pass videos I've ever seen, thank you!!!
Thanks my friend! Much appreciated!
