  • After being bogged down with work for the past several months I was finally able to hit the trail again. I met up with Scott and Tara and we headed to the Ochoco Mountians for an epic snowy adventure. Overlanding, Jeep camping, Rooftop tent, Jeep dogs.

    Amazing and beautiful country. Really like the laid back content of your video of just being out and enjoying the quiet of nature, and good friends… that’s what it’s all about. My 15 year old daughter’s and I love to get out any chance we get . I’ve been doing this with them since they were 7 . Anyhow awesome video, and looking forward to seeing more. We are watching from Elkview WV. Happy travels and happy camping

      Thank you Cherokee Billy! Glad you enjoyed it and really appreciate the compliment and comment. This past summer I took my oldest daughter (10yrs) on her first “real” overland trip. Before that we just did regular camping with a few dispersed campsites thrown in there but not too remote. I’ll remember that trip for years to come and look forward to more trips with her. Take care my friend!

      @@OverlandScout81 You bet!! I just retired from the Chicago Fire Department and plan on selling my highrise condo (can't have a dog here), and eventually buying a PU truck with a pop up truck camper(Bundutec??). I have a house in NC I rent out so that will be my back up if and when I get tired of being on the road. Will have to time it when the tenants lease is to be up but nonetheless....at least a backup...home. I love the outdoors and west!! I plan on getting a dog...rescue...or maybe two!!! Maybe I'll be posting some day as well. Good luck to you and I most definitely will stay subscribed! John Dz.

      @@dzonthego right on Enjoy life! Congratulations on your retirement. You definitely earned the free time to travel. If I went full time I’d strongly consider a PU with some sort of light weight camper in the bed. I like Jeeps so the Gladiator is appealing to me but there are so many good choices. There’s definitely a learning curve to making these videos and you just have to start and learn from each one. Maybe I’ll see one of your videos soon!
      I highly recommend getting a dog and a rescue is even better. One of the best decisions I’ve made. My friend Scott fostered Scout for me and was able to observe her behavior and knew she was the perfect dog for me.

      @@OverlandScout81 I love animals in general but dogs are the most incredible of all God's creations! So happy whenever I hear of fosters...rescues. I love the jeep gladiator but my goal is to be able to be off grid as long as possible and with that being said....I really do want an indoor toilet and shower. The Bundutec Wild is at this point, my truck camper of choice...which requires a minimum 5 1/2 bed. It has a 1600 lb dry weight so a Toyota Tundra would do the job. I owned a 1991 Jeep Wrangler....bought new...9 years..175,000 miles. I am not a vehicle guy but I LOVED driving that thing...even in Chicago.🤪 Wish the Gladiator was a tad bit bigger. I'm also thinking of an electric truck. Not because of the "green" aspect....electricity has to come from some power source and until they can power a vehicle with solar....it's somewhat of a wash. I'm hoping the technology advances so that any electric PU, will make sense...charging stations etc.. They have greater clearance. If you get one with 4 independent wheel motors you can go almost anywhere and storage is incredible when you don't need space for an engine!! Just a thought and hope. I have been enamored of the Atlis PU but at this point...it's not a sure bet that it will even be produced. Rivian's bed is too small and I will be watching the Ford F150 Lightning's first few models before I would commit to it. I apologize for going on and on about all this...no need to respond... Hell...it's Christmas!!🙄😆 I have been looking forward to my change in life for awhile and now with the internet and such, off grid living is easier than ever. By the way....I'm this way in person as well....I don't shut up.🤦‍♂️
      I'm going to be going over your past videos and will of course be watching each future video. My desire is to be as far away from civilization...for as long as possible. Luckily, America provides that opportunity. I've been in Oregon but not as often as most other western states. I'm enthralled by the vastness of the Central and Eastern parts of the state.
      If you've gotten this far....I question your sensiblities..😆
      Thank you though.....happy travels and truly love your videos. Good health and happiness for you and your pups!! John

    Skip the cast grill on the fire and place the steaks directly on a bed of red hot fiery coals. "Dirty Steaks".
    Season with S/P, or Montreal, cook two min/inch of thickness on each side. Pull them off, wrap in tin foil and then in a towel. Rest 10-15 mins while you make additional sides for dinner.

    Amazing snowy trails and campsites. I wish we had views like this near us. What a trip! Good job with the recoveries. Are you using a heater in your RTT or just a sub-0 sleeping bag? Figuring out winter camping is my next task.

      @OverlandScout81  2 года назад +1

      Thanks Darkside Off-Road! I’ve run a heater in the tent before but I bought a mattress pad/comforter, a few down blankets, and I put 3 hand warmers in my sub-zero sleeping bag. It keeps me nice and toasty (12 degrees). My tent also has the optional insulated later which works really well. I was looking at getting a heated blanket but opted for a heated vest instead. Should get here this week and I’ll test it this weekend. I’ll let you know how the vest does.

    Hey Mike, Love watching your videos. Great job catching the beauty of where we live. Grew up in Hillsboro Oregon now living in Washougal WA. Have climbed many mountains and recently getting into overlanding with a new Jeep. Curious as to the brand of pants you are wearing in this video. They look rugged and durable and maybe even water resistant. Let me know who makes them and what you think about em. Keep up the great work on your videos! Maybe my wife and I can join you some time for an adventure. Another question is what you air down to for the snow. I went out a couple days ago and ran into some deeper snow. Aired down to 18 which seemed to work well but still getting use to the Jeep and what is best.

      Hi PW! Thanks for the compliment and glad you are enjoying the videos! The pants I’m wearing are from Fjallraven and I’m really happy with them. Comfortable and rugged and after washing them they’re like new. They’re pricy but worth it in my opinion. I generally get down to around 10 psi in the snow and sometimes a little lower. Breaking a bead is something to be mindful of running that low but I’ve yet to bust one. One of my friends did bust one a few months ago and we reseated it by spraying brake-free into the tire and lighting it. There are plenty of videos on RUclips on how to do this and it worked flawlessly for us. I’m in the process of moving to Bend Oregon and haven’t been on the trail lately. Several others have inquired about meeting up and joining on a trip and it’s something I would like to do. Making these videos started out as a hobby and I really enjoy the engagement it’s bringing. Once I get settled after the move I’ll look into it. I am a member of the Salem Jeepers club and lead runs pretty regularly for them. You’re a bit far from Salem OR but I’d check them out and consider joining. They do runs in Washington frequently. You can search for the open page on FB and You’ll need to attend one meeting to join the actual club. Thanks again PW. Happy adventures and maybe I’ll see you out on the trail!

      @@OverlandScout81 Thank you Mike for the reply. Bend eh! Would love to live there as well. In fact my sister lives in Bend so get over there as much as possible. Picked up my new JLU Rubicon in November. Ordered it in August so took a while. Bummer is they messed up my order and it showed up with a soft top. I have a roof top tent still in the box in my garage. It's taking forever for my hardtop to show up. Hoping by April at least... I certainly will check out the Salem Jeepers club FB page and thank you for that. On the pants I have found that for clothing I should always pay for the best when it comes to staying warm and dry. Thank you for that info. Keep up the great videos, your a natural videographer!

      @@PaulWellner oh man, that’s a bummer they messed up the hardtop. Especially after having to wait so long for it to arrive in the first place. I’m so happy I got my Jeep. It’s incredibly capable but the main thing I love about it is the community and the people I’ve met. We have a great overland sub-group in the club and it’s been awesome introducing them to the hobby. We have several awesome trips planned for this year. Several 5/6 day trips in Oregon, Black Bear pass in Colorado, Moab and the Rubicon trail. That’s in addition to all of the 3 day weekend trips….it’s going to be a good year.

    • @OverlandScout81
      @OverlandScout81  2 года назад

      Oh yeah, first thing I check when finding were to setup is for “widow makers”. The trees in the immediate area were healthy and didn’t look like they would be an issue but I suppose you really never know for sure. Didn’t look like there were any dead branches to be concerned with but the tent did get hit with a few chunks of snow/ice that fell from the tree.
