Ha, I bet. My pup is used to it now but it’s still pretty funny to watch her splay her legs out when I carry her up and down. Pretty sure she learned her lesson not to jump out again!
Nice spot and good times. I've just come back from a weekend trip to scout some spots around the Madras area and it had a great view, I'm always looking for good camping spots as well (new to this though as of two weeks ago).
took my then-7yo-daughter on a VERY similar route in 2020, right when the restaurants in Christmas Valley opened for the first time. What a FUN drive down into the crater of Hole in the Ground. We're still cleaning up dust from the bottom. Almost called it camp, but headed to camp under one of lava field cinder cones. Such a cool area with so much to offer--forests, lava fields, fault line canyons, sand dunes, craters....
That sounds like an amazing trip you took with your Daughter, Issac. I know I’m going to remember this trip for a long time. I absolutely love the Christmas Valley area and actually just got back from another trip there. This time we started about 10-15 east of Brothers on highway 20 and made our way across the backcountry to Christmas valley. Amazes me how just when you think you’ve explored an area completely you find another incredible route. I know I’ll never see all of the amazing places this state has to offer but I’m sure going to try.
Thanks Matt, it was incredibly relaxing. I’ll cherish this trip with my daughter for a long time. Really enjoy your channel Matt. I came across it last year and it’s definitely a gem on RUclips.

Impressed with what you can navigate with that jeep. And don't worry. The location has been kept on the down low. Too good of a spot to put on blast.
Right on Cascadia Backroads! Yes, that road is pretty white knuckle especially the first half. Definitely a secret spot but a serious overlander/backcountry explorer that can do proper map recon and is determined enough to traverse that harsh country can find it. Hope you had a blast with your friends!

Hi George, Yes, I think you would be fine in a full-size F150. I’ve been down to the bottom of Hole in the ground with guys in Gladiators and they didn’t have issues.
