    Good substantiated review Jeroen! The tracker is very attractive to purchase for traveling and for easy polar alignment with the laser. I think this remains a problem with the Star Adventurer 2i, because you can't see the radical at all or only poorly in the dark.

    • @StarScaperPhoto
      @StarScaperPhoto 7 дней назад

      Thanks Mark, glad it was informative! I like it a lot for its portability and indeed easy of setup. Doesn't the SA 2i come with a little add on and a red light to attach on the polar scope btw? I always use my headlight in another hand an shine a bit sideways on the front which also does the trick. Little hint: you can also put the laser against the SA scope and shine through it 😁. Msm even sell an add on that attaches to the SA that can hold the laser. Pretty neat.

    • @Mark_Wierda
      @Mark_Wierda 6 дней назад

      @StarScaperPhoto There is a small red light to attach, but the light is too weak to illuminate the radical in the dark. I have read that many people have this problem with the 2i. I always use the red light as you describe. Just not optimal. Shining a laser through the scope would be easier haha

    Excellent video Jerome! I just purchased the MSN Nomad a few weeks ago and I am looking forward to experiment more with it. Unfortunately I cannot use the laser where I live (Norway), so I also had to purchase an extra device to use the phone (and the polar alignment tool) for better alignment with Polaris. But I agree that the laser (used in Spain) works very well and it's as easy as 1-2-3. Thanks for the reminder with the little screw in the Nomad, I haven't tighten it yet, but I will. Great review Jeroen. The Nomad looks very interesting but I already have the SW SAM which I like as it more versatile (you can adjust the speed of rotation) and is solid in itself - if a bit bigger than the Nomad. When you add the equatorial wedge and camera ball head it does start to become a bit ungainly and unbalanced looking (dependent on your latitude) and maybe you could do a future video demonstrating this point between the star trackers?? I have tried just using a Z and V plate combo, to some success, so the camera sits directly above the rotational axis of the star-tracker and thus better balanced. This also reduces the need for a ball head making your travel bag a bit lighter. However, I like the simplicity of the ball head!! Why not design the equatorial wedge and star tracker as a single piece unit to help further reduce its size?? Hope your leg is healing well so you can get out there again soon!!

    • @StarScaperPhoto
      @StarScaperPhoto 8 дней назад

      Thanks for watching and putting up some interesting thoughts. I have not used it myself but the SAM looks like a capable tracker also. I like the V plate especially for pano's. I'll always put a ballhead on top of the V plate though for versatility. I might strip down the setup even more in the future to only 2 ballheads if I want it even more compact. We'll see. Interesting thought of integrating a wedge into a tracker. That's not a bad idea at all.in my opinion.

I also didn't use the Allen screw, it's easy to lose or forget the Allen key, I use a thick stainless steel pressure spring on the central screw, which prevents it from loosening on the Nomad and I also use a spring on the Skywatcher. So far I've only had the opportunity to use it for three nights. Nomad behaved very well, I used a 20mm and 50mm lens, I am 100% satisfied. Brilliant review and I'd also agree with you on those small fiddly parts that you could lose I'm always losing lens caps etc 😂 so these things need to be as efficient as possible but an amazing device nonetheless by the looks of it

    Great review man. Really nice that you zoom in to some of the small details as well. They’re not really dealbreakers, but some minor inconveniences. I’m really considering to give this one a go because to the ease of use and the form factor, and this review really helped with that. Thanks!

      Thanks for letting me know it was helpful Jens! I agree that the disadvantages I could find are merely small inconveniences... or in my case ussr error without reading the manual even 😄. If you're looking for something compact and easy to use, the Nomad is a really good choice in my opinion.

      I send my prayers for fast recovery ❤️‍🩹 I know how that feels since I enjoy Astro photography cuz all the epic spots US and Europe require lot of hiking to do or sometimes off road adventures to…. You sound very calm so easy to understand for me cuz I’m Korean English is my second language I can tell your wonderful person thank you again all the free lectures for all the photographers around the word so we can learn from you some tricks and education…. Its important you get well so I can learn more from you 🙏🏼🙏🏼🤣

    Great to get your opinion on this little tracker. Mine has just arrived but I am yet to use it...hopefully this weekend. I'll make sure I tighten the little lock screw 👍. I got the optional Vixen plate so I can use it with my Star Adventurer wedge - bit of a weight trade-off but also a cost saving.

      Thanks for watching Greg! I'm sure you won't regret it! Saves so much weight and space! I can understand you saving a bit of money, re-using the SA wedge. Should also work brilliant. Looking forward a lot to your next Gascoyne adventure!

    Thank you for an interesting review I'm not sure the laser pen would be ok in the UK with aeroplanes in the sky. I hope it still can be used safely, the size and weight are amazing. Clear skies

      @StarScaperPhoto 8 дней назад

      Thanks for watching! With the laser you got to be suoer careful indeed there are no airplanes around. If you are nit comfortable with that, there is also a kit available with a polar scope which also works well for alignment.

    Great Video!! And nice shots did you get there!! I absolutley can relate the chaotic state of mind in this evening! 😅 You don´t know where to look and where to direct the camera because the aurora changing above the sky and you don´t want to miss anything and you´re simply overwhelmed at the same time 😂 I was lucky and could also catch some shots from southern Germany and put it in a video (my first) 🙂 It was a absolutley magical night🤩 your videos are very inspiring for me so I am thinking about starting with astrophotography videos 😬 carry on and clear skies!!

    i rarely track and stack my landscape astro shots. I feel that ISO 800 2-3 minutes is the sweet spot. Spending lost of time stacking when your shots are already 2 minutes seems like a waste if you have so many compositions you want. Super happy recovery is going well!

      @StarScaperPhoto 10 дней назад

      I love the tracking and stacking part. Finally some 'off time' to enjoy the stars without rushing haha. Agree in a dark bortle 2 or something it isn't really necessary. As a Dutch bortle 4-5 guy I am used to having to process my data to the limits though. More = more in those cases 😄

    🙌🙌Great wonderful vlogs!!! Your last 3 (The one with Corné, and these last two La Palma night-scape adventures are truly breathtaking! For me it has been a couple of years since I've been under some truly dark skies on multiple locations in the US.. having focused the last couple of years on filming Bioluminescence at our Dutch coasts/Terschelling. (whilst also enjoying their lovely Dark skies..) But your Vlogs have made the itch grow for me to go again on some trips next year to some really dark skies and my night time Video skills back towards where they started 'the night sky'.. Would love to see how much more I'll be able to capture, now after years of improving my skills... (but also off-course to just simply gaze at those skies again..💫💫) La Palma is definitely high on the list of places to go, with maybe some other European locations (Germany/France) in-between. ---And hey! maybe (would really be awesome!), go on one (or more) of the trips with either of you guys (You, Corné or Sjon.. :) But dang... ... that fall was one shakeup at the end of your vlog! I've had my share of night time scares, but nothing as extreme as that. ...thankfully your on your way into recovery (pray it will hopefully sooner than later.. so you'll be out and about under the starry skies!

      Thanks for watching and your reply Raymond! Those last adventures were really some of the best experiences I've had under the stars so far. In the past few years I've also enjoyed your content on social media. As for filming the night sky. Myself I just bought a very old Sony A7S1, put on a cheap light sensitive Viltrox 20mm f/1.8 lens, point the camera at the sky and record. That's basically it haha. Sounds like you've given it a lot more thought ;-). Who knows we'll meet somewhere in the future!

    Nice vlog, once again!! Sad to see you had a serious injurie, I thought it wasn't that critical. Wish you a soon recovery and a lot of patience during the process... I'm pretty sure all the astrophotographers that visited La Palma, have stayed at that road at least one night :D 11:03 that's the NOT (Nordic), GTC (Gran Telescopio Canarias) is the one with the silver dome, still the biggest infrared telescope of the world. Hope you can visit us again soon!!
