    Great review!! For people reading who are interested: I did 3 Min. Exposures with 85mm with pinpoint stars, even 10-30s exposures with 500mm (depending on the leverage arm on the nomad) all just by aligning with the Laser using the Cochab method. Usually it never ever slows me down. Love that thing.

      @@StarScaperPhoto you draw a line in between Polaris and Cochab. From Polaris, you move 1,5 moon lengths towards cochab on that line. There's the true celestial pole. So you aim with that laser to that point.

    Great review man. Really nice that you zoom in to some of the small details as well. They’re not really dealbreakers, but some minor inconveniences. I’m really considering to give this one a go because to the ease of use and the form factor, and this review really helped with that. Thanks!

      Thanks for letting me know it was helpful Jens! I agree that the disadvantages I could find are merely small inconveniences... or in my case ussr error without reading the manual even 😄. If you're looking for something compact and easy to use, the Nomad is a really good choice in my opinion.

    Excellent video Jerome! I just purchased the MSN Nomad a few weeks ago and I am looking forward to experiment more with it. Unfortunately I cannot use the laser where I live (Norway), so I also had to purchase an extra device to use the phone (and the polar alignment tool) for better alignment with Polaris. But I agree that the laser (used in Spain) works very well and it's as easy as 1-2-3. Thanks for the reminder with the little screw in the Nomad, I haven't tighten it yet, but I will. Good substantiated review Jeroen! The tracker is very attractive to purchase for traveling and for easy polar alignment with the laser. I think this remains a problem with the Star Adventurer 2i, because you can't see the radical at all or only poorly in the dark.

    • @StarScaperPhoto
      @StarScaperPhoto  5 месяцев назад

      Thanks Mark, glad it was informative! I like it a lot for its portability and indeed easy of setup. Doesn't the SA 2i come with a little add on and a red light to attach on the polar scope btw? I always use my headlight in another hand an shine a bit sideways on the front which also does the trick. Little hint: you can also put the laser against the SA scope and shine through it 😁. Msm even sell an add on that attaches to the SA that can hold the laser. Pretty neat.

    • @Mark_Wierda
      @Mark_Wierda 5 месяцев назад +1

      @StarScaperPhoto There is a small red light to attach, but the light is too weak to illuminate the radical in the dark. I have read that many people have this problem with the 2i. I always use the red light as you describe. Just not optimal. Shining a laser through the scope would be easier haha

    I have a problem, I have a Sony a7iv and a 20mm 1.8 g lens. I saw in tutorials that they set the exposure time to even 2 or 3 minutes and there are no star trails. I set it to a minute or a minute and 20 seconds and the stars start to blur. I don't know where the problem is. I choose the polar star from the stellarium application, I have a phone mount for MSM.

    • @StarScaperPhoto
      @StarScaperPhoto  3 месяца назад +1

      Sounds like your polar alignment is off. Maybe try and calibrate the compass of your phone first before using it to align. Have to say I have no experience myself with phone alignment. Only with the laser and polar scope. Maybe check visually if you are roughly aligned to Polaris. That rough alignment already should be sufficient to get at least 60 seconds or so without trailing I guess.

    Great review Jeroen. The Nomad looks very interesting but I already have the SW SAM which I like as it more versatile (you can adjust the speed of rotation) and is solid in itself - if a bit bigger than the Nomad. When you add the equatorial wedge and camera ball head it does start to become a bit ungainly and unbalanced looking (dependent on your latitude) and maybe you could do a future video demonstrating this point between the star trackers?? I have tried just using a Z and V plate combo, to some success, so the camera sits directly above the rotational axis of the star-tracker and thus better balanced. This also reduces the need for a ball head making your travel bag a bit lighter. However, I like the simplicity of the ball head!! Why not design the equatorial wedge and star tracker as a single piece unit to help further reduce its size??
    Hope your leg is healing well so you can get out there again soon!!

    • @StarScaperPhoto
      @StarScaperPhoto  5 месяцев назад +1

      Thanks for watching and putting up some interesting thoughts. I have not used it myself but the SAM looks like a capable tracker also. I like the V plate especially for pano's. I'll always put a ballhead on top of the V plate though for versatility. I might strip down the setup even more in the future to only 2 ballheads if I want it even more compact. We'll see. Interesting thought of integrating a wedge into a tracker. That's not a bad idea at all.in my opinion.
