I guess I was a "silver spoon" JDubber growing up. My Dad was an executive for Caterpillar Tractor in Peoria, Illinois. We lived in a beautiful home. Dad always drove high end Buicks or Cadillacs. Those folks in our congregation that were poor were jealous of us and wouldn't socialize and others were always kissing up to Dad looking for a handout. Mom had 3 mink coats but would never wear them to the Kingdom Hall. One was an $9k coat and when she died we found $1800. In the pockets. Dad had been a congregation overseer and an elder until he passed away at 97yrs old. My brother and I worked physically demanding grunt level jobs until we both retired. My grandmother wanted us to attend college at the University of Illinois where she had sent my Dad. Dad and Mom both opposed the idea. We both married Witness girls and both were unfaithful. I walked away from the Jdubbs after that and searched for Jesus until I found Him at age 55. The saddest part of my life as a JW was having 4 daughters that today won't talk to me because I'm an apostate.

On the actual survey they are the least educated even below Pentacostals. Hindus are at the top of the list. The more education the more per hour one gets in many cases. Real estate coursework used to get a good paycheck without a lot of education, that ship may have sailed. Nurses make more than some doctors as they do not have private office costs and malpractice insurance costs. In JW land the electrician and plumber are king! Most parents would have bragged on me, I got an education and I am retired. JW land is it's own thing. Sometimes the sisters get college to be an accountant and just do not talk about it.

What about standing for the National Anthem? Or saluting the flag? As I recall, each one of the 12 tribes were lead by their own banner (flag).

I joined the Navy rather than being drafted into the Army. This was in 1968. When my service was over I got my college education paid for by the VA.😂

I was raised in mainstream Christianity… but by the time I was 15.. I was disillusioned as my parents were anything but Christian at home. But I always had a deep love for Jesus. I had given my life to Christ at 8yrs old… but my mother didn’t believe me because “there was no instant change in me”. And no one guided me. By the time I was 18 I had become JW.. my BFF at school was studying to be a JW and it intrigued me. I was baptised and went about my JW life for 10 years. A few years in.. I started to see a few things that I knew was not biblical and started to wonder about it all. Then this happened….. I was out in field service and on this day I was by myself. I was a few doors a head of the others and I heard a voice speak to me and said.. “you may be able to take the girl away from Jesus, but you can never take Jesus away from the girl”. I stop in my tracks… and knew that I had heard God. I turned around, said to the people behind me.. I am Leaving. I walked to my car and drove home. That night I had this dream… I was in a prison… it was brilliant white.. everything including myself and my hair was brilliant white. I could see past the prison bars and it was pitch black. Out stepped two JW elders that I knew.. and one said to me… say that your are JW and we will let you out. I said … in that case, I will stay here. I woke up and knew.. I was to leave JW and left immediately. I was 28. It took another 7 years to return to Christ… but when I did, it was wholeheartedly. I was 35. I was baptised again… but… as i stepped into the pool I kept thinking this is what JW believe and this is what Pentecostal believe and to be honest, I was scared and confused…. But as I went under the water and came up to the surface… it was no longer about what religions believed but what God word said.that was 30 years ago… and wow… Jesus has been amazing. To honour and glorify the king of kings… is truly precious.

I realized I've never seen the images in detail. I am from the eighties so, surely, who read this book with me distracted me from these pictures... interesting... I could be numb too and now after decades I am able to get shocked. Neither explanations bring me any kind of peace...

I left the jw’s twenty years ago and I still believe in Jesus and that I have him in my life. I also believe that there isn’t any “wrong” way to pray. Thank you for sharing your Journey to Christ.

In 2019, I was very upset after a divorce, and I asked Jehovah for a sign while driving. I asked for a statistically improbable sign-none of this bullshit coincidence sign. Within 30 seconds, a car ran a red light and hit me and I got hit a 2nd time. Then I ended up on the edge of the train track and I could hear the train. (Later, I found out that one of the cars hit the crossing equipment and it signaled to the train to stop) I nearly died. After that, my life got great and I never went back to the meetings.

I meditate all the time. And affirmations are beneficial also. Yoga is same as stretching, unless you make it into a religious practice. You can make anything or any routine religious or sacred anyway. Same can be said for martial arts. It's only violent when you get violent. You don't need martial arts or a black belt to turn violent and practicing doesn't "make" you violent.
