My name is Helmuth, I am an expert in eco-driving. With this channel I try to show how efficient modern cars can be driven and how this is done. I am testing cars with all kinds of drivetrain, ICE, Hybrids, PHEVs and BEVs.
I also want to show you the beauty of the area I live in (Innsbruck, Tyrol, Austria).
Normally I do the Ecodriver-Loop (75 kms/46,2 mls) which contains a hillclimb, rolling hills, a descent, country road, motorway and city traffic. With PHEVs I drive this loop with an empty battery in order to find out about the efficiency of the drivetrain, in addition I do a range test.
And as a bonus, sometimes I'll take you with me on a business trip to show you the beauty of the Alps and the best way to drive a Volvo XC90 T8 Recharge ;)

if you eco drive it doesn't matter if the car is heavier and may even help you lower the consumption since there is zero engine brake so the car will go further without accelerating

Always wanted to ask you about the IG-L restrictions on that part of the motorway. We went several times, from Switzerland, to Zillertal and the lovely villages in Voralberg and Tyrol regions, with our EV. I asked ASFINAG about if foreign registered cars are exempted from these restrictions, but they redirected us to the Austrian Environmental Ministry and didn't got a clear answer from them. While I'm not a native German speaker, I could understand that foreign registered EVs are not exempted. Greetings from Switzerland, your Romanian follower!

In germany no one drives 105-110 km/h on a motorway. I am wondering what would be real consumption at 140-150 which is more of a standard speed here on apassenger car
This is irrelevant, as these videos are taken in Austria, and on this motorway there is a 100 kph restriction.

We have Scania, Mercedes Actros & M.A.N lorries on our fleet. Scania do quite well over and above the other two makes of lorry. Thanks for sharing your video Ecodriver. Brilliant run, thank you! The Aygo X is a perfect compromise and a better way to save Gaia. Smallest possible car, yet with full [security] kit and a surprisingly good drive. Just enough power, with a CVT for ease of use _and_ economy. Tried and tested simple engine without direct injection, turbo or unnecessary hybridization that _still_ manages to beat all else in fuel economy. And best of all, big wheels and slightly higher ground clearance for poor road conditions, especially in winter. And it's adorable!
The tests and the explanations you provide are priceless, almost impossible to find somewhere else. I always asked myself if it's worth to carry a heavier battery every day for the amount of electricity I regenerate on long downhills, considering I cannot charge regularly. The Kuga PHEV is 170kg heavier than FHEV.
I haven't had experience with the Hyundai PHEV, but the Toyota RAV4 PRIME has a heat pump. During the winter, the engine doesn't come on. However, if it is extremely cold, the gas engine is needed to heat the cabin. I live in Canada. I'm extremely happy with this vehicle. With the way I use this vehicle, I'm getting an equivalent of 2.7 km / per 100 liters.

It's unclear to me: when the drivetrain runs in series or series-parallel, i.e. the engine is, or is also, acting as an electricity generator but the wheels are, or are also, driven by the electric motor, does this count towards electric distance driven on the dash?
Hello. Interesting video. So you see that anticipation is very important. I have learned to anticipate more since I got a truck driver's license, and I also apply this when driving with a caravan. I try never to stand still. Above all, keep rolling. I am looking for a PHEV and especially for a car that can tow a 1200kg caravan well and economically. Things like: do I have enough electrical energy left in the mountains? Does an electric motor work well on a long trip from the Netherlands to Spain? (with long steep hills like at Lyon and at the border crossing with Spain) I'm deciding between the Lynk & Co 01 and the 2023 Kuga PHEV with respectively 1800kg and 1500kg towing weight. Are you going to test more cars? I'm especially curious about the above. Thanks.

What a useless test. The fuel consumption goes in Renault higher than display show. Ive checked that in few clios and arkana and megane on more than 50k km … It can be higher up to 1.5 L .. normally it varies from 0,5 to 0,9L

Only diesel, trust me.
That is incredible. We have a 2021 Toyota Venza hybrid with the 2.5L engine. After 3 years, we are averaging 5.9 L/100km and we're ecstatic.

Too bad the 78.7KM is not realistic as the car was being "charged" by the petrol engine during those 5km it ran on petrol and missed that hard part of the route for the batteries. It can be seen on the other video that it recovers battery very well. If the engine didn't kick in it would probably do 60~65km
you have no idea what you're talking about, I think those test results are pretty accurate
@@kalibra2121 you're the one who have no idea... If you drive downhill you will consume way less than going uphill... Missing the harsher part of the route will impact range and be unfair to compare to other cars who did all the route in full EV..

Yes. Approx 300 bhp plus electric motor power is around 100bhp. I have the T8 with supercharger and turbo, but my car is V90.

A little lost with your comments. Just bought a plug in escape. I am assuming you're driving on EV mode. Going gown hill the engine regenerates energy. What if the car is just in Neutral? I noticed the flat driving doing 3.7 liters per 100km how?
Never drive the Escape in Neutral, there's a software bug that causes damage to the engine in Neutral

We drive a Jazz at the moment but people tend to tailgate and pull out in front of you in this car. So we are considering the HRV being committed Honda drivers. The reliability can perhaps only be bettered by Toyota and Lexus. The only things which bother me with the HRV is that it received only a 4* crash rating from NCAP and it is made in Mexico not Japan or UK. The only other vehicles we are considering are the Jazz crosstar and the Toyota Yaris cross . The Crosstar is not a full height SUV, just a Jazz jacked up by about 4cm , and the Yaris Cross looks good but the back seat is small. Both these cars are very fuel efficient . I hope this is useful to anyone considering these cars.
