you know a disaster is horrible when it makes disasters like the titanic look tame.
@@AidanSuperStudios I don't like comparing disasters - both were horrible in their own ways.
I like how this video not only gives history about the Rex but also history about World War One and two and history of Italy during both wars.
@@AidanSuperStudios thank you very much!
She was attacked and ultimately sunk to keep Germany from seizing her & using her for their use. She was a beautiful ship, sad she was destroyed, but it's also understandable why she was attacked! I feel like a naughty school boy who is two days late doing his homework 😂😂 Great video again Elinor😊 Looking forward to the upcoming plans 😊
@@Chevyman02 lmao thanks so much for watching!
Such a bautiful ship. What a tragedy.
@@welcome_to_the_collapse totally agree!
70,000 tonne not 70 tonne
@@mrfrogg46able thank you for this! ❤️
the Oedipus Rex ! it did a lot of mother's day cruises!
@@robarnum7180 interesting! Thank you for sharing that!
Awesome video well done 👏
@@ozziemederos thank you so much!! 😁
Too bad there were no dinosaurs on that ship as the name SS Rex would imply.
@@travisdelafuente1150 lmao!!
@@shipwrecksunday Thanks for liking my comment!
Really a pretty ship.
@@kendalson7100 totally agree! She was gorgeous!
Finally took time & watched several of your vids. Thank you truly for a straightforward "non AI" (?) approach to these stories. You don't claim any expertise but your research and knowledge shine through. Such a pleasant voice & clean delivery. Cheers to you folks... most refreshing !
@@TS-cc5bw thanks so much! I appreciate it! And no AI used here! Cheers!
I do enjoy the "Shipwreck Sunday" channel Videos thank you, Eleanor are you the same voice on the HRNaval Museum RUclips channel? I really enjoy the documentary's there too.
@@billhersey1944 thank you so much! Unfortunately I am not as this is my only channel!
When ships looked beautiful. Another great story. Thanks Elinore.
Thank you so much!!
You used beautiful pics of a beautiful and short lived ship. 💔 Really well done Eleanor!!! I know you probably have a full play list in the works, but perhaps you can look at doing a history of the Italian line Pre and Post war. They were some of the most beautiful ships ever built... But Im prejudiced, being Italian...lol...
@@SeaTravelr123 thanks so much my friend! I can definitely do that!!
The Italiens got a "Crime against Humanity Free Card". They did many crimes in their African areas. They build many wonderful looking liners at that time. I wish they would have invented color photography much earlier. The former pre dreadnought "Asahi" was also sunk by a USN sub, but she was converted to a repair ships after 1937, so she wasn't technically a battleship anymore.
@@andreaslermen2008 thank you for adding this! It's very true. They should have been held accountable, but were not. Interesting about Asahi! Thanks for adding this!!
Great job, love hearing about the specs of the wreck of the Rex. subbed!
@@Randomstuffs261 thank you so much! Welcome to the crew!
Let us not forget the Wilhelm Gustloff, sunk by a Soviet submarine with an estimated loss of between 9,000 and 10,000 souls,
@@Tigershark620 it is true - but she is considered a cruise ship, which is the only reason I didn't include her here.
The Rex was the flagship but the Conte Di Savoia was better decorated, and just as fast. It too was destroyed during WW2, unfortunately.
@@Biggbarr good point! I did prefer her interiors - much more modern looking!
51k DWT. is a huge ship in that era. The step sterns are my favorite. Rex and Normandie had them. You covered it very well E.
@@thereissomecoolstuff absolutely huge! Thank you so much my friend. I agree - those sterns are simply elegant!
Just subscribed. Avery enjoyable channel … I think the Italian liners were the best looking …not to grand or overwhelming as in the case of the British and French liners as beautiful as they where too
@@renesagahon4477 thank you so much! Welcome to the crew! I have to agree with you on that - they are so sleek and elegant. Especially the 1940's and 50's Italian Liners - they just looked so modern yet classic all at the same time!
Great video as always Elinor, thanks for posting
@@JamesWylde thank you so much my friend!
So many beautiful ships lost... it's a shame. Excellent video! I love those Italian liners... especially the ones in the 50's. They looked like they were full throttle sitting still.
@@draggonsgate yes!! They were so elegant and graceful. They just glided right through the water no problem!
I heard about this one befor on a doffernet channle and found it interesting Sorry btw that i havnt been here lol hope you guys havent forgot about me
@@abstracz1027 we would never forget you! Great to see you!
Pointless destruction of a beautiful ship but that's what happens in wartime. Peroini Nastro Azzurro is Italy's Pabst Blue Ribbon!
@@randallfabian6640 is it really? That's fascinating! I myself am not a beer drinker so I wouldn't know!
Elinor thanks.i thought the ss Rex was the same boat that was a gambling ship off the coast of Los Angeles in the late 30s but I guess not. Same name different ship. Maby a different show that could explain two vessels with the same name..keep me posted.....mike
@@mikecrawford6284 I definitely could, thanks so much!
Thank you😊@@shipwrecksunday
No comment on Friday but pleased that it featured our favoUrate paintjobs - Dazzle! Maybe if She`d HAD Dazzle the RAF Might have missed this Elegant Liner? I`ve always thought the brevity of her name and style of script used to be unflattering to the Ship. Wonderful coloUr illustrations, quality Presentation (for) Shipwreck Topic.
