@@ldpadventures833 I'll have to look into doing something special for the Empress, as well - I've covered her in the past but I can always do a more detailed look like we've done for Lusitania!
Very well done . Lusitania is so often overlooked because or her demise during a world war . Thank you for this lovely series during Lusitania month . 👏🎉
Edit: Spoiler Alert for those who dont know about Lusitania! Thank you Elinor! I can't tell you how much I genuinely appreciate your focus on Lusitania. She was always so under appreciated throughout her life. Whe she was sunk by U-20 captained by Kapitanleutnant Walther Schweiger her career ended, and so did her legacy. Nobody remembers the innocent 1,200 people who were murdered due to Lusitania's registry in Jane's Warships as an Armed Auxiliary Cruiser and Germany's refusal to adhere to the Cruiser Rules of WWI. Lusitania and Mauretania were both absolute LEGENDS of their time and they both set records that stood for decades. They both deserve great respect from us maritime historians.
Totally agree! She's not nearly as well remembered as she should be. In the ship community she is well-recognized, but the general public has all but completely forgotten her. I appreciate you watching!! Thank you!
Welcome Back Elinor !! The best 39 minutes I've watched all day 👍 Never knew there was a First Lusitania !! Always learn something new every time I watch . Great job 👍
Elinor, I can't thank you enough for the tremendous work you put into these videos. I considered myself a Titanic and Lusitania aficionado snob until finding your channel. You have taught me more about these beloved ships than any book I have read. Subscribed for as long as you make videos. Well done, brava!
Thank you so much!! Cheers, friend! If you enjoy books on Lusitania, one I used for this research and one of my absolutely favorites is "Dead Wake: The Last Crossing of the Lusitania" by Erik Larson. He's a great writer and I have quite a few of his books!
@@shipwrecksunday I have it in my Amazon cart as I type this. I hear it's brilliant. Nothing but smooth sailing and calm seas for your channel moving forward! Drew, Tampa FL.
Should be noted that within eyesight of the RMS Lusitania's construction the SS Keewatin was also being built. Keewatin is smaller but she is the last Edwardian era passenger liner left in the world. She's in Kingston, Ontario now as a museum.
Fun fact the QE2 tried to take the Ribbon from the Big U! She tried overtake but the Commodore hailed the QE2 and said nice try and increased speed! Other fun fact the Hudson doesn’t start to the GWB so all the docks on Manhattan are in the North River.

A known fact about Captain William Turner is that he is not a sociable whenever he's the captain of a vessel, he pretty much sees passengers as "a load of bloody monkeys who are constantly chattering", as opposed to Arthur Rostron If I were to heard a ship's captain say that, oh man, I would go straight to the company right away.
You had to leave us with a "to be continued " climax 😂😂😂lol just joking 😂😂 I don't know why, but these old ocean liners are fascinating 😂 Do you know why the older ocean liners like the Lusitania & Titanic were painted black & the bottom red? The black was mostly used on older coal powered steam ships because it was easier to look clean from coal dust. They were painted red on the bottom because it was a special paint designed to keep barnacles off. Have you looked into the USCGC Blackthorn in 1980?
That area of the ocean is vast, and has a lot of movement (currents and the landscape has a lot of underwater mountain ranges in the area) so that makes finding her difficult. I also, sadly, don't think they are looking very hard for her.
Potential pronunciation issue: it's possible that SS Celtic should be pronounced SS Keltic, no SS Seltic. 🙂 I haven't found any exact info on how the ship's name is pronounced. But I found this: "Celtic pronounced as 'seltic' is the football team but Celtic pronounced as 'keltic' is the people (British Celts are from Scotland, Isle of Man, Wales, Cornwall and Ireland), and the Celts as the people has always been pronounced as 'keltic'." Seeing that other ships are named things like Teutonic (referring to Teutons the people), and Britannic (referring to Britons the people), it is likely that SS Celtic should be pronounced SS Keltic. But please double check in case I'm wrong. 😊 Thank you for your videos. 🤗
