    In 1913 my Grandparents came to America after they married in Greece on the Carpathia. The Carpathia and Titanic have always fascinated me. Thank you, Shipwreck Sunday.

      My mom originally came over at 9 years old from England on the Queen Mary after her father died on the Lancastria and my grandma married an American GI stationed in London. Then at 18 years old my mom went for a visit to England and on the way back either on the Queen Mary or Elizabeth met my father coming from Italy!

    Pretty sure the picture of the 1st class dining saloon in the beginning of the video is that from RMS Olympic. Also I think it was the RMS Lusitania that took the blue ribbon back from the Germans as she is Mauretania's elder sister and was put in service first.
    ( If I'm incorrect my apologies)

    PS. Derek, Snowdrop (K67) was built at Smith`s Dock, they being the Creators of the Whaler that the FLOWER CLASS evolved from - she survived the War. If there was just ONE Ship I would like to visit it HAS to be HMCS Sackville, Canadian Built Sister) unlikely so bless the Interwebby-thingy! Support Tally Ho, launching soon!

    Carpathia’s third class accommodation was noticeably superior to what was offered on many rival liners of a similar size. Carpathia boasted numerous public rooms for third class passengers, as well as meals, which were included in the fare (this wasn’t always the case on other lines at the time). Third class included a smoking room, a bar, a ladies’ sitting room and a big dining saloon capable of serving 300 people at a time.

    He only wanted to see her as she was when he commanded her...😢. Captains and their ships have a strong bond especially after years of service that's their home, car, and oddly their friend

    • @shipwrecksunday

      I can totally see that! Spending so much time on one gorgeous ship would make it hard not to grow attached!

    I feel like not only was the captain, the crew and the passangers of the carpathia heros, but also the ship itself. Like how we hear about the human body being able to lift a car to save somone or run faster than a cheetah in times of need . That ship pushed itself to limits beyond what was expected to get to the titanics survivors

    Three trigger warnings in one video seems excessive.

    The RMS Mauretania did not reclaim the Blue Ribband in 1906 because it wasn't in service yet. It came into service AFTER her sister ship,, the Lusitania, which was put into service before her. The RMS Lusitania was put into service in September 1907. and took the Blue Ribband from the German Liner. Then the two sister ships took turns taking the Blue Ribband from each other until Mauritania kept it for good and held it for several years.

    It's pretty amazing, how the hard work of the crew. Kept the ship afloat, over 2hrs. Considering the weight and speed of the water coming in. Just think though, if the ship wouldve had double sided walls as well. It could've contained the water and the ship saved
    A lot of people think the berg "tore" open the hull. But more specifically, it's rivets were snapped off and hull plates forced apart.

      100% that crew kept the Titanic floating so much longer than she probably should have!

    Not sure where you got your info. Top speed of the carpathia was 14 knots - source the captain of the carpathia

    • @shipwrecksunday
      @shipwrecksunday  2 года назад +6

      Thanks for posting! It is well known RMS Carpathia averaged 14 Kn, however the planned trial speed was 15.5 Kn but once Rostron ordered extra stokers to create the additional steam, the acceleration of the ship was then capable of up to 17 Kn. Many researchers have debated the speed of Carpathia, mostly debating between 14-17.5 Kn.

      @@shipwrecksunday the speed Carpathia was able to make for titanic which was 17 at the most, was when the crew was pulling all the stops, a vessels speed is measured at what is realistically possible, it’s not like carpathia would be zooming around at 17 knots for the hell of it, I guess think of it like a top speed and an emergency speed, and that speed is only achievable because of the round the clock work of the engineers

    • @jkephart4624
      @jkephart4624 6 месяцев назад

      Pretty sure the captain said they were pushing 17 on their way to titanic. Sure it could be exaggerated but still uts what the captain said
