KEH Bargain Lens? Sony Zeiss LENS STEAL at 70% Off?
I've been wanting a 50 mm prime lens for my Sony full frame cameras. I also wanted a heck of a value without sacrificing image quality. I found this "bargain" lens on the KEH website and took a chance.

How the Apple iPhone & Log Changed the Game for Content Creators

I'm really blown away by the capabilities found in the newer iPhone Pro models. Including the iPhone 15 Pro and newer. Shooting and log gives me the flexibility to capture far more dynamic range and choose a color palette that fits the situation. This video I'm still learning a lot in the audios off of it. However, I'm really happy with the footage that was shot outdoors with the iPhone 16 pro ...

Why I Purchased the ZV-E1: Incredible Auto Focus, Stabilization, Color Science & More
The lens looks really great. Still even with a 70% discount it still can be very pricey. The blurry background is pretty cool. Gives lots of options. Thanks for the sweet unboxing. Take care and wish you a Merry Christmas, Brian G Johnson. 🎁🎄☃️❤️
Nice to see you again - Missed you in RMNP this year - the depth of field is really narrow, even your ears were out of focus - maybe stop it down some? - but the Bokeh is really nice - looks like a great buy!
None of these are hacks especially the white balance part when shooting raw!
It’s all about $$$
That lens looks amazing... I buy a ton of stuff from KEH! Nice to see you dropping a video here, too!
Thanks for sharing, the lens is doing a great job.
really beautiful! Amazing!
1:58 that lil spider is measuring the size ...
Great video. That’s answered questions that was holding me back from buying, thank you.
Great video and advice. I’d like to add that many of these lenses are expensive and renting is a great option for those that are on a budget.
Just got my ZV-E1 and a Sony Gmaster 14mm 1.8. Hoping to up my quality on my channel. Been suing a iPhone 15 pro max. We shall see...
can tell you not in England. those kids would have hurled abuse at you and called you a pdf if you were.
Gorgeous videography! Did you use external lights for the video or a shoe mount light?
I have both lenses the 600f4 is simply not a good lens if you do a lot of small forest bird photography especially if you like to walk when you bird. If you prefer large birds in open habitats while staying hunkered down in the same spot get the 600f4. It is simply not practical to walk around with the f4 on a tripod or even hand holding. Small birds are always jumping around unless there is a feeder. I basically don’t bother photograph warblers (or small birds in forests) at all anymore with my 600f4 and mostly use it for waterfowl/ bigger birds in open habitats. I like to wait near a natural food or water source to get good behavior shots without moving too much. -joakospamerwildlife
Sigma 105mm DG Art for me every day of the week
Sony 200-600 make me sad about that chromatic aberration on the edge of subject...
I agree with you about 12 mp being enough. I've never encountered a problem because of it, and it's more forgiving for even cheap lenses. My Sony a7sI screen died, and I really want to replace it with something like this, but the lack of a viewfinder really kills it for me. I do most of my photography in the desert, so during the day using the screen is very hard, even with focus peaking like you showed. But the other issue is night photography, the light of the screen will attract bugs from miles away, or might disturb other night time photographers (specifically for astrophotographers). It's frustrating because I know it would have probably increased the price a little, but not as much when compared to the already high price. Including a viewfinder should have been mandatory because even without the some extra dials to make still photography easier, this would have been close to the perfect nighttime / low light camera, and instead it has a "bigger microphone" that almost no one uses.
The A7RV is better........not as fast on the electronic shutter but better overall image quality. Not to mention the autofocus is unbeatable.
It's a completely different beast. Its electronic shutter takes 1/10th of a second to read the frame, compared to 1/250th of a second for the A1. IQ is very similar to be honest, the differences are marginal at best. And while it does have some smart tricks helping the autofocus recognizing the subject, it cannot compete with the 120 calculations per second for the A1 autofocus, with only 20 calculations per seconds. Not the mention the blackout-free EVF on the A1 for following the action.
None of these images needed a 600 f4
I really enjoyed this informative video. I have a question for you. I have a Sony a7r5 and 90mm lens which tubes would you recommend for my setup. Can I add more than one extension tube
Thanks for the wonderful tips!
I don't shoot LOG anymore. I setup a custom profile in camera which gives a nice natural look without color grading
The footage looks fantastic and I love the Blackmagic app, but yes... the files are massive! Welcome back (photography Brian)!
Thanks again!
Nice sharing. Which settings do you use to film at night?
It really depends what I’m filming if it’s a subject and a scene with not a lot of movement I would reduce my shutter speed quite a bit, which is a no no, but if you need a good low light, you need to gather light someway. Reducing the shutter speed can help there’s not a whole Lotta options really. Start off by learning the basics of camera settings and use a third-party app so you can change the settings. Black magic camera app. Or moment camera app
@@BrianGJohnsonPhotography Thanks for the info.
I love to use the automatic camera setting. Might not be always perfect but makes it easy to make a few quick shots. Works fairly well outside with lots of sunlight. Thanks for the awesome video, Brian. 🐱🐱❤️❤️
Great tip!
I had the Laowa, it broke 10 months in with VERY little studio only use. Trying to get warranty work was impossible, I gave up. I bought a few others, adapted and native, ended up with the Sony and stuck with it. The 90G is by far the best because it has stabilisation that works better than using IBIS only, it works with the focus stacking in some Sony bodies, it has AF and it produced better images than all other options I tried (a half dozen of them). I think it's built better also. Great value lens.
Why it broke ? It not well build ?
the city reflections in the lake look absolutely sick
Everybody who shot flowers once knows, that IBIS or IS are useless, cause the flower is moving more than your hand is shaking.
Just to confirm -- it is compatible with Sony a7c?
Yes it's E mount
Excellent tutorial, Brian. I enjoy macro photography very much. Such good tips in this one.
EXCELLENT! I found the 3 Ps to help with my wildlife photography here in Montana 1) Position. If in the mountains, use the hillside elevation to bet at or slightly below the eye level of the animal. Use the topography to position yourself so the animal feeds towards you with the first photos at eye level with the animal on the skyline of a hill. For perched birds and waterfowl, they typically lift off into the wind so position yourself with the wind at your back. Most wild mammals have a keen sense of smell, so position yourself with the wind in your face for wild mammals 2) Planning. Plan your position so the animal naturally comes towards you in a still position. Often a moose, ram, buck or bear will come quite close with that type of planning. 3) Patience. Patience and let that "magic moment" happen naturally and the animal does not know you are there.
Excellent! I carry 2 cameras here in Montana, a Canon R7 with the RF 800 F/11 for over 1200mm effective reach since the R7 is 1.6 crop factor. The other camera is a Canon R5 with the RF 70-200mm F2.8 for low light and environmental wildlife shots.
You are too rich man😢😂
What if you would shoot the a7r5 with a lower pixel count would it be faster?
I have a 16-35mm, 100-400mm and 200-600mm paired with A7rIV bodies. I shoot wildlife videos 90% of the time and the 600 prime has been on my list for a while but for video, doesn’t seem like the benefits are worth the addition, especially for the price 🤔
I'm disappointed with the macro capabilities of my GM zoom lenses. I know they're not made for that, but i don't shoot enough macro to buy a special lens for it.
I’ve been shooting the A1 since it came out. I upgraded from the A9x’s. I’m really happy with mine and with the firmware upgrade 2.02, while it doesn’t add the last features it’s now consistent menus with my A7RV and latest compact C bodies. I actually have two. Bought the second one slightly used at a great price. Take care.
You have basically slowed down the video😌
fantastic letter, this is timely for me. often getting anxiety trying to share what little i have built up over time, this resonates so deeply with me, i am trying to get back to sharing my photos and vids. thanks dude. i decided a while ago, that the vids i shared on my fb page, i will just put here, as and when i come across them, then my images and written words can stay on my blog.
Sony doubles as a portrait lens with its autofocus. (And I have a manual Rokinon 100mm f/2.8 macro already.)
Well I made it this far, so it means it was an entertaining video!
You don't like that the A1 doesn't have the new AI processing chip? That's because the A1 was released in 2021, years before that AI chip first appeared. Same about the screen, you say "for whatever reason, Sony doesn't put good screens", but the A7R5 has a 2.1M-dot screen that can be articulated better than any other camera ... it's the best screen you can find on the market.
For me the Sony A7RV are the best overall Camera.
I bought this as my first lense. Man, the shots you got with it are amazing! I'm trying to figure out how you got your full subject in focus like you did. I'm loving this lense for portraits too.
I liked these tips. I am a complete beginner and my biggest challenge at the moment is getting my full subject in focus. I know about focus bracketing, but i haven't tried it yet. For now I'd like to attempt to get my subjects fully in focus without any postwork.
2000 vs 13k. As a not pro, i pock 2000😂
A7R cameras were always too slow for wildlife…
Ty i needed it❤
can we shoot raw in zve1?
Shooting Peregrine Falcons with 200-600 with A7RV get very few tack sharp shots! My Son's Sigma 500mm f5.6 with A7RV nailed a lot more and much sharper!! the bottom line is the 200-600 on high speed is not really good!
A OM-1 can take the macro photography to the next level due to its automatic photo stacking. As a Canon shooter, I'm envious of the OM shooters fancy tools.
Panasonic does the same thing. Plus, smaller sensor = greater depth of field.
