Now I made my first short test video with the small ZVE1 and I really love it 😍 a perfect b-cam for my bigger FX6 and really perfect for traveling 😊

Zeroing in on the eye is everything. When an eye is in perfect focus, the picture comes alive. The eye, the window to the soul allows you to ignore the part of the image that is sliding out of focus. Nice video of the rabbit. This focusing system is something I wished for back in the 70s and 80s.
One observation, you talked about not liking too much gear like gimbles. Isn't this Sony's way of freeing us from cages, gimbles and just using the camera raw and handheld? I'd feel pretty weird walking around with all that gear, watching people look at me wondering what I'm up to, when I can take that small camera and be nearly invisible. That's why I like the ZV-E10. Might have to get theZV-E1 when funds allow.

Agreed, sharp ‘critical’ focus makes footage stand out. Fact is, I am still leaning into and learning the power of this camera. Don’t want to let it go.
As for this cameras ability to offer small, ease of use and improved stability is amazing. On top of that, having 10 bit, SLog3, and being able to monitor the look of the lut in camera is amazing.
Solid camera, that like all cameras …. is imperfect but a decent value for what it offers.

👍30 Such great footage, super sharp and detailed! Microphone sounded good too! Loved the slow mo snow falling ❄️ Yes I notice over 30 minutes mine overheat, even indoors Southern California. I agree about reviewing footage afterwards is super important.

Still loving my FX-3. My only real complaint is that the autofocus often gets lost or it hunts. The ZV EV1 seems appealing, but overheating seems to be an issue from what I’ve read.

it over heats … but, for me … when it happened, I ran the camera for 90 or so minutes …. that is a longtime.
The autofocus is next level, still learning about all this camera offers and I love it. But, as mentioned … overheating.

Great info and I agree with all of that... Funny that your high temp warning finally went on!
My biggest gripe with all Sony cameras now, is the max brightness of their screens. We shouldn't have to purchase a monitor or even have an EVF to see what we're shooting on a $2k or up camera. I'll pay $200 more for more Nits!

totally agree my friend, the more I think about it … the more it’s such a bummer.
But, alas … as far as the ZV-E1 is concerned, it’s such a great value. But, there’s a price to pay when you purchase camera that is a bargain vs cut edge tech.

@@BrianGJohnsonPhotography it's true... I'm purely being spoiled, we get more than we deserve really at that price point!

    Hi Brian,
Great video as usual, i am looking to up my game on the video side for capturing wildlife. I own the Sony A7iv but cannot do 120fps. Which Sony camera you will buy today ?

thanks for the vid. Just a quick question, do you shoot/expose log with the phantom luts loaded in camera?

    • @BrianGJohnsonPhotography
      @BrianGJohnsonPhotography  10 месяцев назад

No, when I shot log, I simply use the built in conversion profile built into the camera. Still using scinetone a good amount …

I've been shooting with the ZV-E1 for a couple of months and having come over from Canon, I'm still learning its quirks and features. Thanks for the tip on Clear Image Zoom. It's still digital zoom, but it sounds like its worth exploring.
You didn't mention the microphone system on this camera, which perhaps isn't relevant to your typical projects. I find the onboard mic to be a huge improvement. Not as good as a proper lav mic, but still much better than any other onboard mic I've used.
Before selling your ZV-E1, perhaps try out an inexpensive monitor. You'll probably need a small-rig cage or something similar to pair with it.

thanks for the thoughts, I love the camera and am going to do my best to keep it. I think I mentioned the mics about half way in the video. as for an external monitor … thing is, I would like a second camera be on me as I often shoot wildlife with a 600mm prime and Sony A1.
Adding a monitor would be tough. cheers!

I believe the all the new Sony cameras with "AI" have the same AF capabilities in clear image zoom. I believe that the overheating issues are overdone. *I do think what you want is the next a7siii...

The older I get, the worse my eyes get. Not having a view finder is a HUGE deal for me..Dealbreaker?? I'm not sure, but I'm getting a A7C to see which I like better.

Awesome news on the A7C, congrats! I hear ya on 'Dealbreaker' ... think I will do my best to hang on to the ZV-E1 ...but, gonna want to upgrade and trade in one camera for sure ...
The A9iii and or the A7SIV .... one of those will get more money and soon. Cheers!
