Eastman T59V After 18 Months: The Test of Time?

Hi folks, Had quite a few comments on my Eastman videos asking if they are holding up over time, so thought id answer it in a revisit video 20 months or so later and after being used nearly every day. I've found Peach customer service to be most helpful. I Am surprised that that nut fault sneaked past Factory QC and Retailer checks as well. Especially at the price point. Good to hear that you're still enjoying this one. I've taken a good look at their range, and I am tempted. The other part of me wants to keep saving for a 335 though ...

They ship that many guitars 100% right is just an impossible expectation. My friends have bought from peach prior to this one and was the best online order service they had. It wouldnt put me off buying from them 🤘 Well, for what its worth from a stranger on youtube. You wouldnt regret it. But it would set a seriously high bar from a gibson. Which just means you end up wanting a customshop gibson haha

I hear you and others on this. I do. And your not totally wrong. But…. In my experience the pickups make up the vast majority of difference to the sound and so this comparison is still at least somewhat valid. I did the same thing again this time on the same guitar and the difference was still about the same, not that much in the case of these 2 pups.

What a refreshing review. So good to see it being done in real time by a newbie to the device. Gives a real sense of what it’s like to take delivery and use the product rather than having a demo by somebody who’s had one for days or weeks to learn and tweak things to make it look as good as possible. Great work 👍

    • @Paul-D

Well, im about as prone to the sticky neck thing as just about anyone can be I think, and mine has definitely worn in and past that pretty quickly. Although, The newest ones are not varnish finish anymore so..... Just have to know if its a varnish or newer True Tone gloss one

    • @jtd3421

They actually still make the antique varnish and the Truetone as well. The one I’m looking at is the new sunburst antique varnish (new for 2024). They do limit them though because of curing time and they don’t ship them in hotter months.

He asked me what I wanted, which is the ‘out of phase’ positions 2&4, but also the ‘both Tele pickups’ so he’s fitting a ‘super switch’ to give me everything but ‘only middle pickup’, which is the least used position, so position 3 will be the standard ‘both Tele pickups’ which I mostly use, no push/pull switch needed 👍🏼

I am lucky to own the MIJ LS198 GT. Only thing I changed were the OEM P90’s. The pick ups are ok but upgrading them to a better spec’ makes a massive difference. The new owners of Tokai are focussing on MIJ manufacturing in future, allegedly. With exception of fret nibs these guitars are built to a very similar spec to Gibson in terms of long necktenon and wood choice….perhaps even better. P90’s are so much more fun the HB’s tone wise.

Cheers mate! Could you forsee going back to anything digital on the current offerings, or mixing pedals with something like a tonex or kemper player etc?

I've been using a Fractal FM3 for recording for ages, sounds great. ... very recently just picked up a Marshall Origin, mic'd up with just an SM57 and the different IMO is immense. .. so digital for ease +demos .. real amp for tone and finals for me .. just the presense and weight of tone with a real amp is hard to replicate (unless super heavy gain of course )

Thanks for your input, exactly the type of comment I was hoping this video would collect :) I know at some point ill have to go down the Kemper/fractal/QC route just so I actually know it. But im assuming its relatively similar to the plugin world

@@Paul-D Yeah , I mean you can get close but there's just this viseral power to a real amp (and more importantly Cab)... Especially on edge of breakup tones ( I think for metal no probs with digital)

Yeh I have same experience that the higher gain you go, the more the digital side seems to work, perhaps even is better.

I just acquired a T486 and it looks almost identical to your guitar here but it’s not a T59V and not aged. it’s a 2022 and I traded some gear at guitar center was looking for amp and ended up with the T486 found it on the wall of the used section and it looked nice. my first interaction with Eastman and I’m still just blown away i played it against prs se hollow body piezo , my Dangelico DC, and i knew it was a good guitar it also easily as good as other Gibson 335 I’ve played in the past.

You dont know me. Its a video of a guitar i chose to buy to stock my shop at the time (as most of my earlier vids were). Not something i was obligated to sell for someone else. Theres a difference.
