Richmond Park’s Wildlife - A Year In Richmond Park
Excellent watch.
Fantastic stuff! nothing beats an encounter like this
Never feel bad about sharing locations, it’s not the person you tell but the 20 they tell and so on, it’s happened to me in the past. Lovely video and photos of some brilliant species.
Hi Olly, I am switching to Sony from Fuji, do you suggest the 300 over the 200-600?
I personally don’t have experience with Sony or Fuji but in terms of focal length it really depends what you photograph most? 200-600 offers a pretty awesome range and f6.3 at 600mm isn’t bad at all. Does your camera body have good low light performance?
Soo cute ❤😊
I lost your channel ive found ut again 😊
It*
Is this version 1 or 2? Great video. Thanks.
Thanks! This is version 1 but there is also another version before this one with no IS.
@wildlifewitholly Okey. I just bought one today. I was looking for sigma zoom, but found your video and few others about this lens. I was lucky there were two used ones for sale and i got the opportunity to test one with my 1d body. Thanks for the video👍
What is the exact model of the lens ?
This is the Canon 300mm f2.8 IS USM L - As far as I know this is the middle version, the first has no IS and then there is version 2 of this one
Enjoyed that thanks for sharing
Thank you, glad you enjoyed it!
Great video 👍🏼 and subscribed
Thanks Chris, glad you enjoyed it!
@@wildlifewitholly I’m just popping up my newest one as I’m typing this Rainham RSPB on Remembrance Day
Very nice😊
All animals are great and all have a perpose, love the video Olly 😊
Nah i be watching the animal planet.👀👀👀👀 Im good 😂😂😂
Cute 🥰
Hate hyenas….evil, malicious, they will dine on you before you die!😮
Dont they have one of the strongest bite forces
They are cute, next time.bring yr baby to play with them..
They are what they are. The Lion King didn’t give them a bad rap!
"Maybe the dingo ate yaw baby."😅
I have loved hyenas since my daughter at 4 wanted to be one for Halloween. My wonderful mom promptly made her a costume!
It was an animated film, do we need to change our perception on bugs bunny and Wiley coyote also?
Shut up randy
U should go give him some food in a little dish like I do for my Dog. He'd be tame in no time, he'd probably jump up in your bed sleep with you.
Kawawa naman❤❤❤❤👼👼😭🥹🙏
I agree, it’s time to change perception and learn more about them.
Terrific video. Very curious young spotted hyena ❤ Very interesting animal indeed!
I'm just getting my nikon 300mm f2.8 ed vrii 1850€, ITS A BARGIN
Another great video, Olly! You always give such a realistic representation of your experiences out in nature, you don't see something every day, but when you do it's all that more special. Best of luck with all the big next steps mate!
Lovely images 😊 i just found your channel and subbed, awesome content 😀 I'm curious, are you using the Canon EF 300mm f2.8L v1 or v2? Was thinking of swapping over to one 😊
Very interesting.
Great work Olly
I like the fact that you stick with what you like and don’t lust after the next new thing! Never change!
Two Barn owls! Lucky bugger!!!
Very lucky!
Just make sure you don’t bump into The mad hammock slasher, around those parts! 😂
Haha survived once, won’t risk it again 😂
Great video Olly, be the master of your lens!
Thanks Neil!
Hello im EOS R user and gonna switch my cam but not decided yet. R5 or R6 Mark ii. I wanna ask 24 MP is it enough for bird photos, i mean when u gonna editing, cropping your photos. I really really advice, R5 and R6 mark ii nearly same price now (in my country) i know R6 mark ii better focusing and low light performance just MP is less than R5
I’m not sure how it compares to R5 but I am able to crop in quite a lot, it’s possible to get nice bird shots with the 300mm but even so, if bird photography is your main focus then I’d suggest 600mm minimum and at that point I think 24mp is enough!
However isn’t it true that a lens is never the sharpest at its widest aperture . So you ll stop it down to 5.6 or 8 ?
In theory you’re right but the difference is so small, I’d still rather be able to use f2.8 when I need depth of field or when the light isn’t so good
Oh thankyou for the info .
Oh wow, how exciting - best of luck on your new adventures. Love the fox pic - perfect !!
Thank you Debra! :)
Nice to "bump into you" on here as well as Instagram. Great video, and I think my fave shots are the same as the ones you like. Looks like you had an amazing day and I love your ethos on locations and the welfare of animals - well done. One happy new subscriber 👍
Thanks so much! Happy you found me on here too and I really appreciate the kind comment :)
Thing is yes 2.8 is awesome but with birds or mammals 2.8 is far too shallow for song birds I find myself at f8 because it’s the only way I can get the bird front to back in focus. Feet tail etc out of focus kind of drives me mad and the shoot wide open element is something I think isn’t the best way of shooting and as soon as you start seeing your subjects with the correct depth of field the wide open images aren’t as good imo like your own shot, beautiful but you only have it’s face in focus
Yeah I see what you’re saying, totally depends on how far the subject is, if they’re close up and you can still get a clean background with f8 then that’s the ideal scenario! But I’d rather a clean background and only the face in focus than the entire bird but a messy background, I guess it’s all situational!
lovely work Olly...patience & perseverance are 2 of the most important qualities needed for wildlife photography & you certainly have them in abundance...also, it`s nice to see the emphasis being put on the welfare of the wildlife before the shot...👏
Thanks so much! I’m glad the wildlife welfare stuff is coming across in my videos :)
Good luck Olly in California.
Thanks Diane!
Congratulations on your new venture life. Really enjoyed this video, will keep watching to see what you come up with next. I see you are using a 2x Extender with the 300mm lens. Working well no doubt ?
Thank you! I switch between the two but have started using the 600mm more recently and it’s performing really well!
you’re images are amazing!
Thank you so much!
this lens is one of the most afforable hidden gems within the EF lineup, thanks for doing a review for folks to see. amazing you can pick these up under $1000 and yield some seriously great results. I've had mine for 12-13 yr at this point, and truly incredible seeing how well it does in a number of different situations. Esp with upgrading to mirrorless, the R5/R62 breaths some wildly good new life into this nearly-30 year old lens. Agree Olly, the IBIS brings some new capability to this lens, being able to get sharp images at 1/30-1/50th HANDHELD with a 300 is a seriously good upgrade. having spent a lot of time with this lens, i'll bulletpoint a few of the cons below, for anyone researching/shopping one of these. just a few of the real-world cons i've come across: - while shooting handheld is totally viable, the weight/center of gravity does become cumbersome (for me) after about 6-7 min of continuous shooting. it's totally doable for short amount of time, but anyone thinking it's hand-holdable long-term like a 100-500 or similar, its worth keeping in mind/investing in monopod. - the minimum focusing distance can be an issue. the IS or IS II has much better MFD if you anticipate closer images. - while the AF and IQ is remarkable in daylight and low-light, there is a clear performance downgrade when using extender. Even though the 1.4 III is FAR better than the v2 of the extender, there is still some notable compromise when it comes to AF lock and final image quality. contrast is more milky and critical sharpness really takes a hit with the extender on this one. otherwise, if you're on the fence just pull the trigger! this lens will treat you really well, and perhaps more importantly, quit shopping some of the Sigma/Tamron super zoom options. those lenses are comparatively junk vs lens like this. would much rather have a 300 2.8 that's magically sharp and fast, versus some plastic-y junk 600mm with horrible aperture for the same money. just quit considering these if you truly want to enjoy your photography. ok end rant lol.
Great video again Olly- such great wildlife encounters after your night in a hammock! 😍😍 Wishing you all the very best for California and hope you have a fabulous time in Botswana too! Please keep sharing your brilliant filming and photos. 🙏
Thank you Jane! I’m glad you enjoyed it and thank you for your well wishes :) I’ll be doing my best to keep the photos and videos coming!
Good luck and all the best in the USA. Keep on posting video's though, they're good video's!
Thank you! Will be doing my best to keep up the content :)
Congrats on your move to California. I’m a naive Californian and live in the Bay Area. I look forward to the wildlife you find out here. Best of luck!
Thank you! Hopefully going to be lots to see 🤞🏼
One of those mornings that make you truly glad to be alive. Best wishes for your adventures in America.
Absolutely! And thank you :)
Good luck with your new venture
Thank you!
you were in for a treat, it is creepy for sure. just few weeks back I was back in my country in Slovakia as i live in ireland but we went to camp and we were also beside a lake, the amount of crazy creepy sounds was unusual barely got sleep lol. But just shows how amazing the nature is. Love camping doing it a lot though. keep up this its great!
Haha I’m glad I’m not the only one that finds it creepy! But as you say, pretty awesome at the same time!
