- Taking the Canon R6 Mark II and 100-500mm lens out to search for short eared owls and birds of prey including red kites and buzzards! I had a great time despite the mixed weather conditions and I hope you enjoy watching :)

I live in Southern Ontario Canada and have a location, for Short Eared Owls, that I have been going to for years. I always tell people that I hear them long before I ever see them because of the way that they squack to communicate. I love that they are “sloppy” flyers that will suddenly dart down to their prey. Patience is definitely the game. I have sat for hours, at the side of the road in my car, snow blowing sideways, with my windows open and dressed like I was going on a ski trip. I appreciate you sharing the time and effort it takes to experience these birds. I go out in all weather because owls still need to eat and will be hunting in all sorts of weather. A truly honest video with real pictures. Thanks.
That sounds amazing, and you’re clearly very committed going out in those conditions! We rarely get much snow but I’d love to photograph owls in those conditions one day. Thanks for your comment and I’m glad you enjoyed the video :)

@@wildlifewitholly You're welcome :) I'm glad to hear it. It's always so satisfying when you get out and are rewarded with some keepers. I'm looking to get the Nikon 180-600mm to go on my Z7ii. If all goes well with that lens, I'll move up to a prime 600mm with a 1.4x teleconverter later on in the year! But thank you! All the best!
We have short eared owls at a wildlife refuge in Kansas. I've been there twice and haven't seen any yet. Perhaps this year I'll try if others report seeing them.

great video, love cannels that sow wat really happens, not just the amazing shot at the end.. I'm guessing you are in the NE somewhere? I want to take a trip to Bempton in the next few weeks as short eared owls reside there too apparently
Thank you, really appreciate the comment! Wasn’t sure about putting it up seeing as it didn’t end how I wanted but that’s so often what happens with wildlife. I’m actually based in London and this was filmed in Oxfordshire. Never made it to bempton but seems to be a great place for all kinds of birds - have a great time if you go!
Nice video. Suggest you get a lens coat for the white lens though. Just so good to be outdoors though. I'm out looking for Hen Harriers in the New Forest tomorrow

Hey, thanks for the comment and glad you enjoyed it! Appreciate the feedback as well, will definitely try and up the volume in post a bit more - often hard when I’m trying to be quiet around wildlife but will do my best :)
@@wildlifewitholly have a look at the mic you are using you might be able to increase the sensitivity settings!
Hi Brother, my camera set up as well same . R6 Mark II with 100 500 F4.5-7.1 L USM. can you review the set up with RF 1.4x and RF 2x extenders
I can try to do this in a few weeks but it’ll depend on the light because with the extended the minimum aperture won’t let in that much light sadly
I have both extenders. 1.4 x is good. But avoid the 2 x. It’s not worth it.
