    I was so lucky to find your channel! I'm bored with all the hidden cameras or drones, it's not the same. I'm a Finnish old lady living abroad who grew up on horseback in Finland. Got very close to the animals, they smelled the horse not me. Thank you and an amazing channel!

    Absolutely beautiful shots of the bear in the forest. Hopefully after that you’ve realised that often bad weather is the best weather. It certainly makes for more interesting photography.
    Really enjoyed these videos. Thanks for sharing this experience.

    Hey Olly, could have picked any one of numerous uploads - snow fox a favourite. New sub, always great to find new channels (to me). Enjoy also that you have a hold on the current and sadly ongoing crisis with our wildlife. My childhood friend is one of the small team relocating WTE's to the IOW. He ringed the first English chick only a few weeks ago 👍🏻. What was this FInland package for the bear hides? Ive seen a few listed over tge last few years ranging from this gentler approach to ones using a pig carcass. Would be a particular dream of mine to film wild wolves. Very best, maybe we can hook up in '24 - I'm midlands based. Have a fruitful Autumn '23. Si.

      Hey Simon, apologies for the slow response. Thank you for the comment and glad you enjoyed the video! Foxes in the snow was one of my all time highlights - hoping we get some more this year. That’s amazing regarding the WTE’s, I hope they become a regular sight along our coastlines in the next 10-20 years or so!
      The hides I went to wear called Wild Brown Bear, near Vartius. They put medium sized chunks of fish in the area but certainly not enough to sustain the number of bears in the area and they often disappear for weeks or even months before coming back so it’s clear they’re not relying on it. I did a fair bit of research before going because I’ve also heard of some places that seem a lot less ethical and I went to one about 7 years ago for a night which put out dog biscuits which I didn’t feel was very good so I didn’t want to go back there!

    Just breathless after Pt2 - fantastic job Olly. Question for you: did you feel in any way exposed when the bears were close-by? I've encountered grizzlies and black bears in Northern America when fishing and I have to say, I felt quite uncomfortable......very happy to exit, stage left (pronto!). I'm so glad to have found your channel and added my name to your list of growing subscribers - you're a tremendous inspiration.

    • @wildlifewitholly
      @wildlifewitholly  Год назад +1

      Thanks Ian! As I was in the hide for all encounters I generally wasn’t worried, I’ve never seen grizzlies in the states but I have seen black bears and it generally seemed like they were a bit more confident and accustomed to people out there! Thanks for subscribing and commenting again :)

    • @wildlifewitholly
      @wildlifewitholly  Год назад

      Hi Fabrizio, temperature at night was around 10 degrees when I went in June, I think it will be a bit warmer in August and you can use the sleeping bags in the hide to keep warm. It might be worth bringing a good jumper and a woolly hat too - have a great time!

      Thanks Mark, the place I went to is called wild brown bear, there are a few different areas you can go but I can highly recommend this one. think some others further north have a better chance of seeing cubs in summer but cost a bit more so it depends what you’re looking for!

    It's crazy to me (an American) that your bears and birds are just chilling in at 10:30pm, even though it's still light. When do they sleep? Are they all walking around so sleepy until fall?

    • @wildlifewitholly
      @wildlifewitholly  Год назад

      They’ll sleep during the day and then be active anytime from around 6pm - 6am but in Finland they have the midsummer sun so in June, when I went, it’s basically light all night long which is cool!

      Finland is on the same latitude than Alaska, similar "white nights" in mid summer (and long dark winters), bears behave the same?
