Thanks for all the recs. I've had The Goblin Emperor on my kindle for a long time but never read it. I tried the audio last week and it was a miss because the narrator, who I usually like, went with an English accent that was close but not close enough and it brought me out of the story. Foundryside is one I own so I'm excited for. The Athena Club sounds interesting - I'll definitely give it a try.

So many of these on my TBR. I hadn't been sure about Temeraire, but you make it sound so good. . .

My backlist TBR rec is more paranormal than fantasy but Lincoln in the Bardo “She walks into a bar…that sounds like the start of a joke 😅” 😂

I find Goblin Emperor to be cosy as well, it's a great book. I really need to read Foundryside, been sat on my tbr for a couple years now 😅 The Athena Club is so good!

The only Naomi Novik book I've read is Spinning Silver and I absolutely loved it! His Majesty's Dragon sounds so interesting and I would love to read more of her. I also love the sound of The Goblin Emperor. You really need to stop adding to my TBR. 😅

What a fun and varied list. I loved His Majesty's Dragon. I read it for r/fantasy bingo a couple years back not expecting anything special and I was pleasantly surprised how much I loved it. The relationship between Laurence and Temeraire was so precious and I loved spending time with them. Also, agree on all of the world building, it was a freshing take on dragons. I still have to read the last book in the Foundryside trilogy. I was kinda lukewarm on the first book but I loved the plot and new character we were introduced to in the 2nd one. Characters felt a bit YA to me but the tone of the book was more mature so it was clashing for me a bit but I didn't feel it as much with the 2nd book. Hopefully I'll finish it by the end of the year. I actually paused reading The Goblin Emperor earlier this month since I started feeling slumpy and I was starting to get in the mood for some spooky reads. I'll definitely try again at another time since I really loved Maia and I need to know what happens to him. I'd agree that it has some cozy vibes but it's definitely more political. Raybearer sounds realy good. I put it on my tbr when it was released but then never followed up on it. I'll be rectifying that soon. 😊

I just finished The Daughters' War. I know you are really interested. I loved it! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ It's different than The Blacktongue Thief because it's Galva's backstory. No humor. But it is beautifully written. The battle sequences are phenomenal. I even shed some tears. I hope you read it sooner than later - would love to hear what you think.

Great to get your take on all of these. I already had Theme Music on my list because of you, but I've just put a hold on The Pale House Devil. I read a British mystery with a living person-ghost crime solving partnership and it didn't work for me, but this sounds like my thing. I'm really tempted My Darling Dreadful Thing, though I might well be one of those people who get frustrated by the slow burn. I've read only 3 horror books all year (!) and even then I wouldn't say any of them was really horror - Sundial, which we both liked, Chasing the Boogeyman, which I liked but was more of a different take on a mystery, and Penpal, which I quite liked but maybe was a mystery, too. I'm glad I've got a few horror recs for when the changing season sets the mood better.

I hardly ever hear people talking about Summer Sons, I do agree with you on how it ends, that could have been stronger. Yesterday I finished How to Sell a Haunted House by Grady Hendrix which I really enjoyed. I don't watch horror movies but I do like the occasional horror book and your list has given me some great suggestions. 📺

The movie adaptation of Annihilation is wild! I loved the book and was creeped out by the adaptation. The visuals are so crazy, highly recommend if you're game. It might even endear you to the book more. 🤷

Great to see all your stats! I think it’s interesting to get the detail of what we're actually reading, rather than the vague impression of what we think we've. Your horror reads were higher than I thought. Good to see all the audio. I'm the same - it's handy to double up reading with other tasks, but I'm thankful to be able to use Libby otherwise it would cost way too much. Your ratings look very positive, and it's interesting that you read so many newer releases. I have noted down the reason why I picked up a book - booktube rec, reddit suggestion, continue a series, author I like, caught me eye - because I'm interested to see where my highest rated books come from.
