You saved my 60.00 at least. 🤗 TY The Griffins egg sounds like I wouldhave loved it at age 10. Not today. Who is also a goblin fan? 🙋 me, me, me. "Incidents around the house" sounds good, but could have been really great. This wretched Valley might be worth it for me. Gogmagog 🤔 I just dont know. The Djinn, just lost my mom a few months ago, maybe later. The Tainted Cup, yes! Why have I not read Mark Lawrence? The book of Doors, yep, gotta have it. 💐 📚 Love ya Danni
Glad I could save you some money. I was disappointed in The Griffins Egg. I want more goblins! Incidents Around the House is a good time, just don't expect answers or smart decisions from the adults in the book. This Wretched Valley was a surprisingly good time. I love creepy stories in the woods. The characters are not likable, but that kind of helped when bad things happened. Gogmagog is one that is hard to recommend. I think it is so unique, but the world building is lacking. There is a lot you are just left to accept. I'm hoping book 2 will bring it around. The story is so interesting and I freaking loved Cady. I would wait for Djinn. Although I will say the mothers death in the story isn't looked at with your typical grief. There is more to the relationship between the main character and her mother that makes the death not quite a sad thing. I don't want to say more. If you read the Book of Doors, please let me know what you think! And you should definitely give The Book that Wouldn't Burn a try. I think you would enjoy it. It is slow, but so worth it. 🥰
Your DNF’s have interesting premises. Bummer none of them worked for you. The Djinn Waits a Hundred Years intrigues me. I do love books about books 💙. A favourite book. Exciting! Might have to check that one out. 😊
ANA IS A HOOT. Agreed. Don't mind me, just getting a recap of all the books I already knew you read 😆You have read so many new releases so far!! I would swap your 4th and 3rd ranked books 😏 but both were excellent!
Reading 10 new releases so far from the library over last month and this month probably saved me close to $200.. there are two I would like to purchase copies of though for my own collection. I love my library! And they approve most of my purchase suggestions too! They are buying some backlist and a bunch of new and upcoming releases that I requested .. so awesome! I am extremely fortunate to have my library located about a mile away, on my regular walking route and on my way home from work. I wish everybody had easy access to a library.
That is amazing! Which two are you thinking of purchasing? I mainly use my library as well. It is absolutely a phenomenal resource that I wish was available to everyone. I can get access to most new releases, but sometimes it does take me a while to gain access. I am grateful not to have to purchase as there are definitely a lot on this list that I do not want to own. 🤣
@@Danni.Dabbles want to purchase Ocean's Godori (scifi) and youthjuice (satirical horror.. similar to Natural Beauty and Rouge). May end up getting Of Jade and Dragons too (YA "silkpunk" fantasy) because I just realized it's going to be a series. I have a bunch of new/upcoming release holds and I'm afraid they're all going to come in at once 😂
@@the_eerie_faerie_tales Adding Ocean's Godori to my list! I love a good misfit crew. youthjuice sounds interesting, but I'm not sure I would understand the references. Of Jade and Dragons is a beautiful book, but I'm scared of the fact that it is YA. I'll be interested to hear your thoughts.
I forgot I wanted read Gogmagog! It looks like the 2nd one is coming out this December. I love finding new favorites and I’m glad you found yours with The Book of Doors! 🚪
OH MY GOSH!!! Alicia! You just made my day. I didn't realize it was this year. Eee! I really hope the second book just knocks it out of the park. I'm on the fence on whether I want to purchase the series.
Great to hear your thoughts! I’m excited to read The Book of Doors when I can. I’ve read four 2024 releases so far this year. A Fragile Enchantment: DNFed at 10% Beneath a Crescent Shadow: 3⭐️ The Warm Hands of Ghosts: 5⭐️ The Fireborne Blade: 5⭐️
I should have read Fathomfolk this month! But I did not get to it!! But I hope I can and I will at least like it! Also our buddy read of The Last Murder at the End of the World was really fun and I enjoyed it so much!!! You did indeed make me wanna read some of these new releases!!!
Sometimes that happens. Too many books so little time, right? I hope you enjoy Fathomfolk when you get to it. Our buddy read was a lot of fun! We will definitely have to do another one when things calm down.
Cascade Failure was my biggest disappointment so far. Publishers dared to compare it to Becky Chambers which had my expectations sky high. I also loved The Tainted Cup.
Ooo! Perhaps when you get back into a fantasy mood, it will call your name. If you decide to pick it up at some point in the future, perhaps we could do a buddy read. I would like to reread it at some point.
I think that the only 2024 release i read is The Tainted Cup. While i struggled with the fast pacing in the first half, i ended up really enjoying it and as time goes on, i keep thinking about it
Sorry to hear The Last Murder at the End of the World was disappointed. I want to read all of Stuart Turton’s books so get a better idea of his writing. I loved 7 1/2 Deaths but idk if his other books are as good. Based on this I would think not 😅 And Book of Doors sounds interesting!
Ya I was disappointed. I think that 7 1/2 Deaths allowed for us to be involved in so much of the mystery and I just didn't find that with The Last Murder. I do want to read Devil in the Dark Water still.
"This is supposed to be funny" 🤣 Also, Gogmagog is intriguing, is it based on mythology or literature? I remember in Anne's House of Dreams (Anne of Green Gables book 5) that she called two china dogs Gog and Magog
That is a great question and I'm not sure. I know that Gogmagog is in folklore as a giant and Gog and Magog are names mentioned in the bible, but after reading it I'm not sure it has any connection to the original stories. My gut tells me no, but there might be some connection I'm not making.
I'm glad there were some real highs, but that's quite a few disappointing lows. New releases can be a bit of a lottery. The Book of Doors is probably my favourite of these, too, even if I didn't give it 5 stars. I'd put The Tainted Cup above The Book that Broke the World, but I'm hopeful The Book That Held Her Heart will be a great ending and raise the series as a whole. I liked The Last Murder at the End of the World a bit more than you but I totally see your complaints. A few 2024 release hits are The List of Suspicious Things by Jennie Godfrey, Relight My Fire (Stranger Times #4), Close to Death by Anthony Horwitz and maybe The Puppet Master by Sam Holland, though none was a 5 star. The Trials of Empire was a soft DNF (the series has gradually shifted genres and I'm not as interested in the direction it's gone). I hope you find some great books in the next few months' releases and up your average.
I am hopeful for The Book that Held Her Heart. I didn't realize it had a title yet. I just checked and it comes out in April! Woohoo! I just purchased the audio for Stranger Times #3 and I can't wait to get back to the cast of characters. It sounds like you've been appreciating the mystery genre! It stinks when a series goes in a direction you don't think you will enjoy. I hope you find some great new releases as well in the months to come. Maybe you will get a 5 star out of one of them!
I hope you love Fathomfolk. It is a beautiful book. I was super disappointed in Dreadful. What a fun concept but I just can't find the book that pulls it off.
Oh no. I have Fathomfolk because it wasn't at my library when I purchased it for a book club. The book club ended up not doing the book and I have not heard good things. I think Julie DNF'd it yesterday too. Not promising.
I love it when a debut author just hits! 🥰🥰 The Book of Doors sounds intriguing.
Me too! It makes me excited for his next book! 🥰

Thanks Julie! I appreciate it. It is all my ploy to get people to read the books I love so I have someone to chat with about them. 🤣

I'm so glad you ended up enjoying it! Robert Jackson Bennett does write action packed fast paced books, so I can see how it may be jarring at first.
