Could you explain the difference between the two types of threads offered by Vicki Clayton? When you use Vicki Clayton silks thread do you separate the ply’s of threads like using weeks threads? Love your flosstube and projects
Hi Louise. Thanks so much for your nice note, so glad you enjoyed the video! As to the VC silks, I did show to different types. The Vikki Clayon silks come in variegated and solid, The variegated silks correspond to hand-dyed cottons such as Weeks Dye Works, The Gentle Arts, etc. The solids correspond to DMC colors. The silks come on bobbins and are 6-ply. (Yes, you will separate as you do with Weeks.) Each stands is just a tad thinner than 100.3 silks. So if you are working on 40 or higher linen, you can use one strand. If you are using 36, you can use one or two strands, depending on the coverage you prefer. If you are using lower count, you may want to use 2-3 strands. The Superfine VC silk is a single strand and is similar to the Au Ver A Soie Surfine silks. Perfect for 46 or 56 count or going over 1 linen thread on 40 or 46 count. Hope that all makes sense, I do enjoy working with the VC silks. Thanks so much for your note!
Love all of your videos! Always full of inspiration! I think it would be interesting to watch you stitch; your set up how you stitch and all the other “boring” details!
Hi Renee, so glad you enjoyed the video and I appreciate your note. I do have in my “to-do” list to make a “how I stitch” video. . .just haven’t gotten around to it, but I hope to and I’m glad to know you would be interested in seeing that. 🙂🙂 Thanks again for your note!
Hi Karen, So good to catch up with you. The retreat was such a fun time and I so enjoyed meeting you in person. Thank you so much for your enthusiastic review of the pins. You warm my heart. I hope to retreat with you again soon. Your stitching is so inspiring and just beautiful. I did finish my GH1857 drum stitching. Have not yet had a chance to fully finish. Hopefully soon. Hugs to you my friend. Teresa
Thanks for another great video! I have used Painters Threads for years on needlepoint projects. The colors are so vibrant. I especially love the Perle cotton.
Hi Debbie, so glad you enjoyed the video and thank you so much for nice comment! 🙂 I’m looking forward to using the different types of Painter’s Threads, they look wonderful !
I feel your pain - I am constantly trying to figure out the best storage in limited space! That said - I am eyeing the back of the closet door on the right, what is hanging on it? I have a tiny kitchen pantry closet and we hung a metal spice rack on the inside of it which gave us a genius amount of space. Seems you could install bars across it to hang your S hooks with floss - or maybe a rack of some kind. Over the door coat type hangers are something I use also - for hoops and etc on door to my sewing room. So not everything is behind doors but most is. Enjoyed this episode. I hang larger pieces of linen on pants hangers, but I don't have massive amounts of it but even so I am looking for another way.
Excellent ideas, thank you for sharing!! 🙂
Hi! Have you thought of making a cup of semi weak tea and dipping your yellow floss in it to see if you can come up with a tint that you like? Or stronger tea…possibilities. Your videos are so interesting. Thank you and Happy Thanksgiving 🦃
So glad you enjoyed the video and that is a fantastic suggestion! Thanks for sharing it with me! 🙂

Love all the wealth of knowledge. We all need to know more!!!!!!❤
Thanks, Betty! 🙂
I don’t need to know what linen or storage bag.
Thank you for the feedback, I appreciate it! 🙂
Hi Karen, I always look forward to your program. I prefer hearing about the count and name of the linens you use, even if it had been mentioned in the last video. I stitch as I watch floss tube, and may miss the look of a linen from time to time. I sometimes order linen from ETSY or 123 Stitch, as my lns is not too close, or may not have what I’m looking for. It’s helpful to see the linen against the threads for a better sense of its color as well as its variegation. I do enjoy seeing your project bags the first time, but for me the project itself is what I focus more on. Thank you! Cathy G.
Thanks, Cathy! So glad you enjoyed the video and thank you so much for your nice note. I appreciate it so much. 🙂🙂
Thank you for sharing your organizing video, it is interesting to see how other people store their stitching stash. Have a blessed Thanksgiving! Janine
Thanks, Janine! Happy Thanksgiving!
I found an archival box on Amazon and store my linen rolled up in that.
Thanks, Wendy! That is an excellent find, thank you for shari g it with me! 🙂
Hi Karen, So nice to see you. What a great organization you did in your closets! Wow!. They look really good. Storing linen is a real question for me as well. I don't want to hang the fabric from skirt hangers because of the pressure of the clips. Kathy from Linen and Scraps, said the only way to store linen is to roll it up. Well I have been doing that, but I find it gets smashed down at the bottom of the bin or holder (which is cloth). I also find it hard to see the linen color. I have begun to put it in a drawer in a cherry dresser, but I don't want to keep it there for the very reasons you sited in your video. So I am back to trying to figure out how to store it. I think to put it in cloth lined baskets is a good idea, but it gets dusty - in my house, which is old and dusty. So I am in a bit of a conundrum about what to do. I'll keep looking and listening to hear what others do and hopefully I will find a solution. Thank you for sharing the wonderful flosses that Gum Nuts carries. Oh dear, now I am going to go down another rabbit hole. The colors you showed were just splendid. Thank you again for your wonderful video and suggestions and sharing. I always look forward to them and I am never disappointed. Thanks so much!
Hi Virginia, thanks so much for your note. I’m so glad you enjoyed the video. 🙂 Thank you for your comments about linen storage. I enjoyed reading about your journey, thank you for sharing it with me. I have yet to find a perfect solution, but am keep searching. . . . Thanks again for your note! 🙂
Always enjoy your flosstubes! I have begun hanging my linen and then I cover with a dress bag. I now know I need to unfold my quilts and have them relax. That will be my plan for tomorrow.
Excellent tip for the linen, thanks for sharing! So glad you enjoyed the video and found it helpful. Thanks for your note! 🙂
I loved today's video. Such great information and thank you for the tour. Gave me some ideas. I do have one question. How do you store your 100.3s?
Thanks, Patrice! So glad you enjoyed the video and thank you for your nice note. 🙂 Right now I have my extra 100.3s in an antique cabinet. However, most of the 100.3s I have are kitted with projects, either as WIPs or waiting their turn. Right now, I don’t have many extras. (I’m sure that will change with my next visit to The Attic. 😂😂😂) Thanks again for your note! 🙂
Hi Karen loved the video. So much good info. Can you provide a link for your large bobbin case for your VC silks.
Hi Beth, so glad you enjoyed the video and thank you for your nice note. 🙂 The bobbin case is from Amazon Here’s the link amzn.to/3LEVg00 Love them and have purchased quite a few. When you first use them, you have to push down, hard, on the bobbin. However, after doing it once or twice, then the foam will fit the bobbin and they won’t fall out. Thanks again for your note!
@karencombsstudio thank you Karen for getting back to me so fast! I also ordered the Modern Folk pattern that you are doing and I plan to leave off Jane's name and the alphabet. I also ordered some silks and I am doing mine in colors. It will be my first time sewing with silk. I can't wait!
@karencombsstudio I'm sorry Karen, I meant the plastic case you keep your silks in.
@@bethkieffer4630 Beth, you are welcome. 🙂 I think you will enjoy working with silk. I enjoy it so much and love the soft sheen of it. Let me know how it goes! 🙂
@@bethkieffer4630 no worries. I’ve had that case for quite a while. I think I got it from either Joan’s or Hobby lobby. Let me take a look and see if they have something similar online. Thank you Karen for another wonderful flosstube! I love knowing the linen and count you have selected for your projects - for me, it helps visualize scale. I believe for Harriet Salt, you are using 56 ct and I am surprised at how big she will be on that high count linen! Gorgeous! Look forward to seeing Ann Tong Uffindell - I need to finish Rosa Gromett though before I start Ann! Also, my 8 year old granddaughter has been watching this flosstube and is so impressed that I know a “famous person” on TV! She says “hi”!
Hi Georgia, so glad you enjoyed the video and I always appreciate your thoughtful notes. Tell your granddaughter I said hello back to her. 🙂👋 Harriet Salt is huge, even on 56 count. I can’t imagine how large she would be on say 36ct. . . massive! I ordered Harriet kitted from The Attic. I was thankful to have that option, so Jean could give me the exactly what I needed (linen piece and spools). Harriet is lovely, but she is big! 😮 Thanks again for your note. 😘

So many beautiful things to see so far in the video. I had to pause to say that the MFE Jane Austen Sampler will be stunning in the blue thread! Now, to finish the video.

Hi Karen- so happy to see your smile. Yes- I love hearing about the linen color/count of your projects. I think it’s relevant to many of us as we move into ‘smaller’ counts. I’m timid to try higher count linen as a newer stitcher and your comments are always so encouraging. 😊 I also like seeing your project bags. Another enjoyable video. I love your projects but am amazed at the stitch counts. Do you use a magnifier for the 25 and 46 counts? Wow, I'm getting back into stitching, and 40 is tough, but I think my eyes are dusting with 1.25 magnifier in addition to a clip-on magnifier. I really enjoy your videos and progress.
Thanks so much, so glad you enjoyed the video! Yes, I use high powered reading glasses and good light to work in the higher count linen. Some people use a magnifying lamp with a light, that is another option. It takes a little time to find out the perfect set-up for each person. Thanks again for your note!
I’m with you on Rebecca Nurse-I would leave the name off and leave Salem off. The wintry scene is gorgeous. Thank you for another wonderful video! 🙂
Thanks, Mary! I’m leaning that way, since the winter scene is so pretty. 🙂 Thanks again!
I always enjoy looking at the project bags…gives me more ideas!
Hi Jennifer, thanks for your comment and feedback! I appreciate it so much!
Yes, like to know what linen, because it always can change the look of a project 🙋♀💖
@@judesmith356 Thanks, Jude! I appreciate your feedback! 🙂
I appreciate the linen and floss information. There are so many gorgeous options, actually seeing them, close up and backed away from camera is very helpful. Your work is beautiful! I Your decision to wait on the Sun with Hawk’s Hollow is good. Getting all the other colors around that area filled will let your eye know what is appealing.
@ Barbara, I’m so glad you enjoyed the video and thank you so much for your comment and feedback. I wasn’t sure how my new phone/camera would behave but I actually think it is picking up the true linen color when I hold it back. I’m pleased to see that, since it often is a challenge. Thanks so much for your note, I appreciate it so much! 🙂
Enjoyed seeing all of your finds at Hobby House. It's a great place! (Just in case you're not aware of it, the crinkling noise in the video. I understand some are sensitive to it) Thank you for all of your inspiration! I appreciate all the links included, as well.
Hi Mary Anne, so glad you enjoyed the video and thanks so much for your nice note! (No idea what caused the background noise, I just got a new phone, so hopefully that won't happen again. Thanks for letting me know!) Thanks again for your note!
I just had to call The Attic and order Ersilia's sampler and it's all your fault!😂
Who can resist that lovely sampler?!? You will love it! (Sorry to have enabled. 😉 😂) Thanks so much for your note!
If I understood you correctly you are going to use 100 3 in the sampler but for the satin stich au ver a soie . I thick that is brilliant!! It was good to see you!
@@susansmalheiser787 Hi Susan, it was good to see you as well! 🙂 Yes, that is the plan. Nicole mentioned this either in her video or when talking with us about the sampler and the stitches. I thought that was a very interesting idea, so I have purchased the corresponding color in Soie D’aiger for the satin stitch. I haven’t started Rosa yet, but I’m looking forward to doing so in the near future. 🙂 Thanks so much for your note 🙂🙂
❤❤❤ always a pleasure watching your videos! Always something to learn and inspiring!
Thank you so much! So glad you enjoyed it and thanks for your nice note! 🙂
Karen, so good to see your video. I had hoped to see you at My Life is a Sampler 2, but I understand that life happens. My sister and friend picked out Mary Choaks as our remembrance sampler of our weekend together. I plan to buy the Vicki Clayton silks too.
@@joannalangberg9779 Hi Joanna, I wasn’t able to attend My Life’s a Sampler, but it looked fantastic! I was sorry to have missed it. 😞 Isn’t Mary Choaks lovely?!? I just got the VC silks and was toying with the idea of starting her. Glad you were able to go to the retreat and picked up Mary! 🙂 So glad you enjoyed the video and thanks so much for your note! 🙂🙂
Hannah Campbell is lovely
Thanks, Char! I need to get back to her. . . she really is a beautiful sampler! Thanks so much for your note!
