Thank you for linking Pat Ryan's mini-talks about linen and reproductions! Watched both of them and will absolutely rewatch them again! Happy stitching!
Hi Vera, so glad you enjoyed them. I thought they were fantastic and have re-watched several times. So much information. Thanks so much for your note. 🙂
Thanks, Grace and you are welcome! Love all your FlossTubes! Isn’t Loara Standish pretty. So delicate and elegant. Takes a bit of time, but so pretty as I’m seeing the design emerge on each band. So glad you enjoyed the video and thanks again for your nice note. 🙂
Thank you for another video of your beautiful stitching. I have yet to watch one where I wasn't placing either 123stitch or esty order. You and other flosstubers take the time and care to prepare your videos and I will never understand how anyone could complain about noise or anything for that matter. Thank you again for the inspiration! I hope you and yours have a wonderful holiday season.
I’m so glad you enjoyed the video and thank you for your sweet note. I appreciate it so much!! 🙂 Wishing you and your family a very joyous Holiday Season!
Here I am stitching away on vacation in Mexico watching you and you mention my comment. It felt like I was actually sitting and talking to you. I think I need that Norfolk sampler since I was born there when my father was a US Air force sergeant stationed in England on a Royal Airforce base. My husband and I had a trip scheduled to visit the area in April 2020 and then the plague happened. Thanks for your enabling and informative videos.
Hi Ann, your vacation sounds wonderful!! How fun that I mentioned your comment while you were in such a lovely place. 🙂 Both Sarah Clark and M. Woods are Norfolk samplers and are both so beautiful. So happy I found you this morning Karen! You have so much fantastic info in your flosstube :) I will definitely be checking out a few things you mentioned. Happy stitching!
You popped up this morning. How Delightful.! I've already checked some of your reommended floss and linens. You are such a bless ing to our floss tube community. Happy Stitching
Thank you, Karen for another wonderful floss tube. I really appreciate your comment about our eyes needing a rest. All my projects seem to be more time intensive. This is especially true for quilting since I hand quilt. Every time I get to the halfway point, I start to really dislike my project. I thought it was because I didn’t stitch well. If I take a break and start back, I realize, the work wasn’t half bad after all! Hearing the confirmation from you made all the difference! Now I won’t sweat the idea of setting it aside. Thank you.
Hi Leslie, i’m so glad you enjoyed the video and glad my comments were helpful. You are right, often when we go back to a project, we can reappreciation it again and continue on. I was fatigued with Sarah Milthorp, since I had worked intensively on her for about three or four weeks. She has been resting and waiting her turn since June. Pulling her out the other day was just the perfect timing and now I’m excited to work on her again. Thanks so much for your note. 🙂
Hello Karen! I always learn so much from watching your videos! Thank you for sharing! I use plastic boxes similar to the one you mentioned for Vickie Clayton Silks. I have a little trick when I use them-I glue a little piece of flannel to the inside of the lid and my cut threads stick to it very nicely (orts if need be plus lengths that I want to save). ❤Sara S
Karen, Thank you so much for another informative and fun floss tube. Your stitching is beautiful and what you work on is gorgeous. Happy holidays and happy stitching. 🪡🧵
Thank you for the recommendation of the Pat Ryan Pressing video and Flannel PJ’s. It was excellent. I love the Sarah Milthorpe piece more each time I see it. Thornfield is the perfect linen. As always, thank you for sharing❣️
You are very welcome. When I watched Pat’s videos, I just knew I had to share them. So much wonderful information! I agree about Thornfield. It is such a good color . . . just a little bit of mottling and the colors just glow on it. So glad you enjoyed the video and thanks so much for your nice note! 🙂
Hi Jackie, so glad you enjoyed the video and very pleased to hear you were able to get one of the Potoky stands. I was so surprised they had some in stock when I checked yesterday. Glad you were able to get one. Merry Christmas! 🙂
I got the free sampler pattern I love it hopefully I can get the silk pack and some fabric soon.I love to watch your videos always learn something. Take care and Enjoy💚
Isn’t Sarah Rickwood lovely?!? I’m looking forward to starting her. Sylvia was so kind to share it with us. So glad you enjoyed the floss tube and thank you so much for your kind note 🙂🙂
Hello, again Karen. I love your videos! I learn so much from you. You are always cross stitching the most beautiful samplers. I want to do every one of them. I feel like I am so slow, at it. But I do cross stitch every day. The color of hoop holder was so pretty. I can't wait to see you again.
Hi Jill, I’m so glad you enjoyed the video and thank you for your sweet note! The term I often think of when stitching is slow stitching . . . I also feel I’m slow when stitching, but I try and take my time and enjoy each stitch. There is just something magical about seeing the design develop. I just love that. 🙂 Thanks again for your note!
Karen always a joy… watching you. Sarah is stunning 🌹🌹🌹 Your soft sweet voice & skills in presenting are spot on 🌹 I will tag you this weekend on Instagram to show the Primitive Hare finish & my Ackworrh sampler…. Hi Sharon, I look forward to seeing your finish’s, can’t wait to see them. 🙂 So glad you enjoyed the video and thank you for your sweet note. Hope you are feeling better!!
Karen, How honored I am that you mentioned my comment on your Kitted Parade Episode! This is why I love FlossTube so much; I get to share time with folks who know my heart and understand the love of stitching. Your videos are always packed with beautiful stitching, charts that draw me in, and a wealth of educational info that you so freely share with us. Hi Barbara, i’m so glad you enjoyed the video and I loved your comment so much. I wanted to share it with everyone. I thought you phrased it perfectly.🙂 I hope you like the Pat Ryan videos, I found them helpful and so interesting, such a treasure to be able to learn from her. Thanks, Karen! So glad you enjoyed the video and thanks for your nice note! 🙂 Crinkling doesn’t bother me either . . . just means I’m going to see some really pretty stuff! 😄

Hi Lonnie, good idea for the selvage! I like the idea of putting different information on it. I know many quilters who use Frixion pens to mark their quilting lines. Since it is a newer product, there are no long-term studies to see what the ink solution will do over time. My concern with marking quilting lines with it is what will happen in 50 to 75 years (or longer) to the fabric where the ink was used. For a quilt that’s going to be loved and used. It is always a joy to watch your flosstubes. I wrote down the 2 videos you mentioned with Pat Ryan that were so good. I did watch Grace’s flosstube about the German samplers. She is such a scholar! And I love listening to her. The Drawn Thread piece about stars is just lovely. I saw that in the past and one forgets about pieces. I am so glad to be reminded of it. Thank you for your close attention to linens and their colors and how they compare. It is so helpful. Carol in Texas
Hi Carol, so glad you enjoyed the video and the FlossTube recommendations. I enjoyed them so much and thought other stitchers would as well. Glad you enjoyed them. 🙂 Thanks so much for your note! I appreciate your kind comments so much.
Hi Connie, Thanks so much for your sweet note, I'm so glad you enjoyed the video. I feel like everyone is sitting across from me and we are just chatting about stitching. I'm so glad you also felt that. 🙂
So glad you enjoyed the video and thank you for your nice note. 🙂 Isn’t the cranberry Belle Soie a beautiful color?!? I haven’t used it before. I think it may be a new favorite red for me. Thanks again! 🙂🙂
Thank you for showing Sarah Milthorp again. I’m not using my fabric that was provided, but I haven’t chosen a substitute yet-and Thornfield is beautiful for this project! (Which I also wrote down in my notebook when you originally showed it 😂🤦🏼♀️-reminders are good!) Loved your comments on color fatigue.
Hi Leslie, so glad you enjoyed the video and thank you for your nice comment. 🙂 Thornfield is such a beautiful linen, just a hint of mottling without taking away from the beauty of the stitched design. I think Sarah Millthorp is one of the most elegant samplers I’ve worked on. . . just something about the colors and design, it is so pretty. Always learn something from watching your floss tube. I will be implementing your system for linen identification and storage. Currently still have some in plastic. 😮
Thank you for the video. This is my first time here. I love watching the ladies on floss tube. No one I know is into cross stitch so these videos are always welcome...like a visit with a dear friend. Do you think Sarah's Sampler would look nice with DMC threads? I love the look of silk threads but they are out of my budget. I love the sampler. Makes me want to design one of my own. I usually use aida but for this one I am splurging and have bought a nice piece of linen. Wish you well. Hope to watch all of your videos. Happy stitching!😊
Hi Donna, thank you so much for your lovely note and I’m so glad that you enjoyed the video. I feel the same way, watching floss tube is like visiting with a good friend. 🙂 I think Sarah Milthorp would look lovely in DMC! It is such a pretty sampler, you will love it Thanks again for your nice note 🙂
Karen, such a great video filled with goodness! Do you see a difference between your mini petoky and first one you got as far as its function? Happy stitching!
Hi Cheryl, I’m so glad you enjoyed the video and thanks so much for your nice note. Both of my Potokey stands are the Mini. The only difference is the color. I didn’t opt for the Modern stand. From what I can tell, it is close in size to the mini, perhaps a little larger and has the clip at the bottom to hold in place. The Mini has the knob that does the same thing. (the clip at the side, rather than the knob at the bottom would be beneficial if you like to work with larger hoops. ) Both stands can hold a Q-Snap and the Mini can hold up to a 12” hoop. I frequently use a 7” hoop and it works well. I’m not sure what the maximum hoop size is for the Modern stand. The Modern stand it is quite a bit more expensive, I debated which to get as a second stand. I decided the Mini was it. They are so well made, you can’t go wrong with any of them. I’m so pleased with their quality. I was on the fence about them until I saw a good friend using the Mini, that convinced me to give it a try, and I’ve been very pleased with it. Hope that is helpful and thanks so much for your nice note!
Thank you for a wonderful flosstube..I check frequently to see your new one…I have a question..how do you feel about using beeswax on your cotton thread .? Is it acceptable to use it…my stitches seem to be more defined
Hi Linda, so glad you enjoyed the video and I appreciate your nice note! 🙂 I think beeswax is a personal choice. I’ve used it at times and other times have not. I’ve seen strong options for using and not using. I did find this excellent article that I will link below. www.catkinandlillie.com/post/should-you-use-thread-conditioner-for-cross-stitch Excellent question! Thanks so much!
Hi Linda, Thanks so much for your note. The floss on the spools in the cover photo is Au Ver A Soie 100.3 silk. I'm using it on the Sarah Milthrop sampler, which is by Hands Across the Sea. The Thread Legend on the back of the pattern does list several different thread options: 100.3 silk ( for 40 to 56 ct linen) Aoie d' Alger silk (for 28 to 46 ct) and DMC for 28 to 56 ct. This was a kit and I opted for the 100.3 silk, since I would be using either 40 court or 46 count linen. As far as where to purchase it, many needlework shops carry it. None are near me, so I usually order it online. Here are some of the stores I've personally ordered 100.3 from: The Attic Needleworks: atticneedlework.com/ Hobby House: hobbyhouseneedleworks.com/collections/au-ver-a-soie-100-3 Hoop and Frame: hoopandframe.com/collections/thread/soie-100-3 Needle in A Hay Stack: www.needlestack.com/WebStore/Thread/AVAS_Soie100.html 123 Stitch: www.123stitch.com/m/The-Au-Ver-A-Soie-Soie-100-3-Silk-Collection Some of these shops will have kits already prepared for certain patterns and others will put together a DMC to 100.3 silk conversion for you. I've ordered several silk conversion from The Attic. There are many other needlework shops that offer the 100.3 or Soie d'Alger silks. When I am searching for a certain color, I often go online and see who might carry it and if they have a kit available. Sometimes one shop may be out of a certain color, but another one will have it. Another silk I've used and really enjoy are the Vickki Clayton silk packs. She has many colors already kitted for many different patterns. www.hand-dyedfibers.com/product-category/silk-floss-packets/ If you are talking about the floss that is a skein like DMC, but is not DMC . . . those are usually "hand-dyed" flosses. Some of the companies I've used and enjoyed are: The Gentle Arts Weeks Dye Works Class Colorworks There are many, many more, these are just some I've used. Often on a pattern, there will be a Thread Legend with a DMC color list as well as a Hand-Dyed color list. Some times I use DMC and some times I opt for the Hand-Dyed floss or silk option. I hope this is helpful and I hope it answers your question. If not, please comment and I will try again. 🙂
Thanks for sharing the knowledge. You're good at explaining things comprehensively .
I’m so glad you enjoy it and thank you so much for your nice note. 🙂

Aw, thank you Renee! 😊
You made my day! 🙂🙂
Both Sarah Clark and M. Woods are Norfolk samplers and are both so beautiful. I couldn’t decide between them, so now I have both. . . just waiting their turn. 🙂
Since you have such a connection, you really should get add one ( or both) to your collection.

Hi Lonnie, good idea for the selvage! I like the idea of putting different information on it.
I know many quilters who use Frixion pens to mark their quilting lines. I’ve been in the fence about the them.
While the heat does make the ink disappear, the ink remains in the fabric.
Since it is a newer product, there are no long-term studies to see what the ink solution will do over time.
My concern with marking quilting lines with it is what will happen in 50 to 75 years (or longer) to the fabric where the ink was used.

@@karencombsstudio thank you! Very helpful. Went on the notify me list and may just take the dive!
I’ll be at the Great British Sampler Comes to America in the fall also. See you there.
Sounds great! See you this fall!! 🙂

Not backward for us…it was perfect!
Thanks, Kathy! 🙂
Hi Karen! The "My soul is..." sampler...should it be "feed" or "fed"? I just got a brief glance at it.
It’s charted as “feed”. 🤷♀️ 🙂
I think beeswax is a personal choice. I’ve used it at times and other times have not. I’ve seen strong options for using and not using.
I did find this excellent article that I will link below.

Excellent question! Thanks so much!
Hi Karen I saw your floss is different? Where did you buy those its not DMC its like regular thread
Here are some of the stores I've personally ordered 100.3 from:
The Attic Needleworks: atticneedlework.com/
Hobby House: hobbyhouseneedleworks.com/collections/au-ver-a-soie-100-3
Hoop and Frame: hoopandframe.com/collections/thread/soie-100-3
Needle in A Hay Stack:

123 Stitch: www.123stitch.com/m/The-Au-Ver-A-Soie-Soie-100-3-Silk-Collection
Some of these shops will have kits already prepared for certain patterns and others will put together a DMC to 100.3 silk conversion for you.

If you are talking about the floss that is a skein like DMC, but is not DMC . . . those are usually "hand-dyed" flosses. Some of the companies I've used and enjoyed are:
The Gentle Arts
Weeks Dye Works
Class Colorworks
There are many, many more, these are just some I've used.
