Hi Karen - I really enjoyed you showing s the samplers you have from Jean's favourite at The Attic and went on out of interest to check my own - 2 WIPs and 2 charts :) what fun! Love your projects and thank you so much for very kindly mentioning my Flosstube! How lovely :)

I now live in North Carolina. I too picked up cross stitch after a long hiatus. Now I’m thoroughly addicted. 😅

What a wonderful video! Looks very all your projects. So many to choose from, I know I am hoping to get Sarah Milthorp done as well, have two others that I want to work on as well. I love your sampler choices. I’ve switched back and forth from quilting and cross stitch and doing both currently. I started a New York Beauty from your book about 20 years ago and finally got it out and finished it this year.
Hi Karen great video, sooooooo much stitchy goodness, love the choice of samplers, for Sampler September,Thankyou for sharing your photos and beautiful family memories,Thanks for sharing have a good week 🇳🇿🪡❤️
Great video Karen! You always have such a broad selection of beautiful things to show and information to share. I am really interested in the new TN Sampler Book and will certainly be checking that out. I have always lived in TN and know that at least the last 3 or so generations of my ancestry on both sides and on my husband's families have lived in TN. I wouldn't want to be anywhere else!! Happy Stitching! xoxo
Hi Barbara, so glad you enjoyed the video and thanks for your note! I’m looking forward to the new Tennessee Samplers book as well. I haven’t pre-ordered it yet, but will before February. I’m sure it will be a good one. 🙂 Thanks again for your note! 🙂
I always enjoy spending time with you and all of your stitches! What an inspiring sampler parade you’ve shared! I loved seeing your mother’s paintings. As soon as you held up the one with the red building I knew it was the same as the one in Shores of Hawk Run! Isn’t it wonderful to be working on something that represents such special memories. Thanks so much for the shoutout. Much appreciated my friend. ❤❤❤
Thank you for volunteering for polling! What beauties - Sarah Milthrop is exquisite. Your mom's work and the pics are beautiful. I can't get enough seaside samplers - You may also like Kathy Barrick's Riley Harbor, Plum Street's Summer in Nantucket, Notforgotten's Nantucket Broom Ride, Chessie's Whale Watch & Return of the Whales. Thank you so much for showcasing so many gorgeous options for Sampler September🤩. I learn something with every FT you share - it is obvious you love teaching! Thanks to you, I have also finally tracked down a Loara Standish kit and it is on its way to me🎉 Happy stitching!
I’m so glad you enjoyed the video and thank you for your nice note. I appreciate it so much. I’m glad you were able to Loara Standish. It is really a beautiful sampler. Karen I love watching your videos! I did watch it on my tv but then picked up my phone so I could drop you a comment. You are such an inspiration to this community! I am also a gardener and enjoyed you sharing about your garden this summer. Can’t wait for your next video😊🩵
Aw, thank you so much for your sweet comment. The garden is looking a little rough right now, but it August is always a tough month for us in Tennessee . . hot, humid, "buggy", but it is like that every year. The flowers are still blooming, so it is still a joy to water every morning and see their beauty. Thanks again for your note!
Hi Kristi, so glad you seeing the photos. I agree, I was really surprised when I found this photo. . . . probably why I was drawn to Shores. 🙂 Thanks so much for your nice note!

Another wonderful video; Karen! I love your finishes and thank you for sharing your memories-it was very special. I have put my cross-stitch down for a while (but still watching flosstubers!). I’m trying my hand at slow stitching projects in line with what you were talking about-needing to still pick up the needle and working on something. Looking forward to watching you again! Thank you for all the time it takes. So worth it for us!🙂
Thanks, Mary! So glad you enjoyed it and I sure appreciate your nice note! As I was filming that part of the video, I almost mentioned “slow stitching”, I’m so glad you mentioned it. . . . and I agree, there is just something about needing to have a needle in hand. 🙂
As always, I enjoyed everything you had to say today! You have so many wonderful samplers from which to choose for September. I loved seeing the photos, as you have mentioned many times about your parents and the lake. Your generosity with your quilts is so touching. Hope you enjoy the rest of summer.
What a great showcase of what you have going and what you have in your basket for more to do. It does inspire this 80 year gal. You and others have helped me enjoy my ole time favorite stitching after my stroke. It's doable and worth the time and effort.
I also am stitching along with Emeline. It’s the first stitch along I’ve done, and like that there’s no target date. It’s a beauty. I so look forward to your videos…. Very calming and informative.

Thanks for sharing your mother's paintings. I had to go through my parent's things too, it's an emotional task. Your stitching is beautiful, and the quilts are amazing. I love the star quilt, too. I also stitch and quilt and love making star quilts.
Love seeing all your sampler possibilities for Sampler September. It’s interesting how things and events imprint upon us and fing their way into expression in our lives ( your mother’s painting ).
Thank you for sharing your personal relationships with your pieces. I love the barn picture your mom painted. I find myself referencing your floss tubes a lot. You are a natural teacher. ❤
Hi Beth, thank you so much! Mom painted for quite awhile and then set it aside to start our family history. I was so glad to find this little painting with her papers. What a lovely surprise and then to see how well it went with "Shores." I will be sure to hang them together. :)

I like the idea from Christina (Hollis Hands..) move Sampler September to Spring when not so much is happening..anyway see you next time happy stitching 🤗♥️
So glad you enjoyed the video and thank you so much for your nice note. I’ve been stitching mostly patriotic items since May, and I was starting to feel the itch to stitch on samplers. I think August, and at least part of September will be devoted to that. You are right, lots of fall stitching to be done as well. So many wonderful things to stitch! 🙂 Thanks again for your note !
Always such a pleasure to spend an evening stitching in your company, Karen! Thank you so much for all the effort you go to to share all your delightful projects - especially all those gorgeous samplers you have on the go!! I am busily trying to finish up Martha Evans 1879 by the Scarlett House this month so that I can begin a new sampler in September. I really want to start Ann Tong Uffindell, especially every time I see yours, but having seen all the samplers you showed today it is going to be a really hard choice...so many beauties! Although I am not a quilter, your Quilts are breathtaking! The colors, design, the combinations, wow! I am just a cross stitcher. I am adopted and my adopted family just can't understand my love for it; but I met my birth mother and discovered she had been stitching as a young person! She understood. Thank you for sharing your samplers, I am still deciding which one to work on in September! See you soon!
Hi Desiree, so glad you enjoyed the video and thank you for your kind words about my quilts. :) How wonderful that you were able to meet your birth mother and that she is a stitcher!!! Thanks again!
Thank you so much, I’m so glad you enjoyed the video! I debated whether to show the photos and mom’s painting, but finally decided to add them to the video. I’m so glad you enjoyed seeing them. My plan is to hang the painting along side “Shores” once it is finished and framed. I think they will compliment each other well. Thanks again for your note! 🙂
Great inspiration for Sampler September…thanks for sharing. The shore and memories of family brought tears to my eyes, photos, paintings and the remembrance of times past. Your quilts are beautiful…I love samplers and the history these girls/women (boys too) created. Thank you for your generous spirit. Enjoying stitching with you.
When the Un-stitcher first came out it was always out of stock at FQS. I took an old stitching needle and stuck it in a little cylinder of modeling clay that I then baked at a really low temperature in my oven. Hey presto, a homemade un-stitcher. I figured it was also a great way to make do with something I would normally throw out, thereby giving it a second life. A small square of modeling clay at your local craft store is only a few dollars and will make enough little cylinders to push old needles into that you can have an un-stitcher in every project bag you own for pennies apiece.
Just wanted to tell you what a great person I think you are. I think you’d be a wonderful friend. You seem like you have a sweet personality. Keep up your fantastic work on Flosstube!😊
I so enjoy your stories, but most of all your samplers. You've got some beautiful pieces. I've had my eye on Hannah Campbell for a while now and seeing yours just made my mind up, now I'm on a quest to get her kitted.

Karen I found the Tuesday Talk from last week. Google DAR Tuesday Talk RUclips. Last week’s is the first listed. I’m going to DC later this week for the National Book Festival. I’m trying to fit in a visit to the DAR museum. My daughter and I visited a few years ago & didn’t find them very friendly but maybe the person was having a bad day. At least I can pick up the book you showed. That fabric you bought for the pillow for the monograms is perfect! Yes JBW has many designs with a French flair that would work. For Sept I plan to do Mary Hill. Hopefully I’ll have something to share in October at Hobby House. Happy Stitching.

Good morning Ms. Combs. First of all, I love your channel. Your work is so impeccably done, which I very much admire. I am coming to you asking advice: I have just ordered my very first V. Clayton silk pack for a sampler. Can you recommend a holder for the small bobbins that will fit in a project bag? I ordered one online but it was much too small and designed for sewing machine bobbins. Thank you in advance of any reply.
@@terrygillies8413 Hi Terry, so glad you enjoyed the videos and thank you so much for your nice note. I use this bobbin holder that I found on Amazon, here is the link: amzn.to/3z3yvQR When I first used it, I thought it was too small. However, if you firmly push the bobbins into the foam, the foam will expand and they will fit. Didn’t seem like it at first, but I’ve been using them for over a year and once you get the bobbins in there, it works well. In one of my previous videos, I do mention the silks and the bobbin box however I can’t remember which one it is . . . possibly episode 28?? Thanks so much for your note, I hope this information was helpful. I really love working with the VC silks.

You are so kind to share your heart with us. I was choked up listening to your memories of your parents. They must have been wonderful people! Several videos ago, you spoke of eye fatigue from staring at/working on the same quilt or cross stitch for extended periods. With that thought, you lifted a discouragement from me. You didn’t even realize it, did you ?😂 I would often scold myself for not finishing something in a timely manner and feeling the need to work on something else. Now, I just think to myself, “ Karen said my eyes need a rest from this project”! Yay!!! Once you’ve completed your home responsibilities, please consider designing a quilt to coordinate with Sarah Milthorpe. It would be incredible!
Hi Leslie, I'm so glad you enjoyed the video and I appreciate your note so much! I'm glad the comment about eye fatigue was helpful and thank you for letting me know. :) Thanks again for your note!!
@@karencombsstudio Karen, I apologize for suggesting yet another project ( quilt design ) to your list of responsibilities. It’s just that you make everything look effortless. As always, you responded with grace.
@@leslies6008 Hi Leslie, no worries at all!! It is perfectly fine. :) Who knows, it might just happen. :) As I was stitching on Sarah today, I thought how Sarah at 12 created such an elegant sampler. Wow, it is really something. I wonder if she ever stitched anything else and if it was ever found. I guess that is a question for Nicola. Thanks for your note 🙂
I am so inspired by watching your RUclips’s and seeing your work-you are such a talent!I would like to use a silk on a new project-I have not ever works with silks. So what kind of silk would you suggest as my first silk: 100 3, Vicky Clayton, NPI, something else? Please share your reasoning as to which one is better to start with. Thank you in advance for sharing!
Hi Mary, thanks so much for your sweet comment and I'm so glad you enjoyed the video! I really like using the Vikki Clayton silks - they have a good price point, stitches beautifully, does not "fuzz", The longer fibers make it very long wearing and has a beautiful sheen. Lately, that is my "go-to" silk when I'm kitting a project. I've also used 100.3 quite a bit and enjoy using that as well. I've used others and enjoy them, but the ones I've listed above seem (for now) to be my favorites. Excellent question, thank you for posting it. :) .
Looks like your Mom painted the boat shed at Rockport, MA. Also known as motif #1. Did you stitch the difficult way for Standish sampler to make it reversible? Thanks for making me drool over Sarah A. Sanders sampler. I definately want that chart!!!
Looks like it! Thanks for your note! Quid-essential New England and so very lovely. Wish I had more information about when she painted it, but I’m glad I found it within the numerous boxes I’ve been going through. Going to look perfect with Shores, once it is finally done. Sorry, just saw the rest of your comment, not sure how I missed it. . . . I have done some of the bands in the Standish in reverse. However, since I want to finish it in my lifetime, I decided to do band 8 "normally." Started to do it in reverse, but knew it would take me forever, so made a decision to stitch that band not reversible. I resisted on Sarah Sanderson, but finally gave it. I'm sure it will be available to the general public sometime next year. It is so pretty. Trying to decide when to start her . . . .

Hi Karen, I know in the past you had shown how you store your Vicky Clayton silks but I didn’t have any at that time so I don’t remember which case you purchased. Now that my Vicky Clayton silks arrived I am looking for a good way to store them. Thank you.
Hi Sharon, you are going to love using the VC silks! 🙂 Let me look up the item number of the bobbin case I’ve used and I will post it in this reply in a few minutes. When you first put the bobbins in the bobbin case, they are a little snug, just push them down in and they will fit. At first, I didn’t think they quite fit, but after giving them a push into the space, the foam adapted and they fit well. Here’s the link to the bobbin case I’ve used for the VC silks: tinyurl.com/2ncsftbj
Hi Vicky, I tend to enjoy working with 100.3 and the Vikki Clayton silks. If you haven’t tried silk before, I would start with a little red sampler and maybe give the 100.3 a try and see if you like it. If you decide to add a second color to the little sampler, you could try the VC silk in the same piece and see what you think. The more I use the VC silks, the more I enjoy them. I have a friend who is only kitting her silk projects with VC silks, she enjoys them that much. Hope that is helpful and thanks so much for your note! 🙂
FYI…I contacted Nicola about Margaret Anderson. She said you have 180 days to download the chart once purchased. There is no expiration on the tutorials! Whew!

Hi Yvonne, thanks for your note. It is the lower case "L" that is missing. I discovered it right before I gave Sarah a time out. I have to take out her last name (over 1, gah!) and fix it. :( Oh well, it happens and I will fix it once I have the rest of her finished. :)
Hello Karen - what an inspiring FlossTube, thank you for sharing so generously with us. Your Mom’s painting is really lovely and you have prompted me to make a plan to start my Hannah Campbell. With this in mind, I can see from your FlossTubes that the colours of the Vikki Clayton silks are just beautiful. I have never stitched with them before - please may I ask, do you have to divide them into strands prior to use, like DMC? I am returning to stitching after a significant number of years and am stunned by the beauty of the designs and materials that are readily available these days…time to experiment 🪡😊
Hi Karen, I’m so glad you enjoyed the video and thank you for your nice note! I really enjoy working with the Vikki Clayton silks. There are so many packs available on her website! You are correct, they are 6 stands, like DMC. You can use them in several ways: I have a good friend who puts them on floss tags just like DMC. I keep them on the bobbins and pull off a length to work on. I wind them back on the bobbin so they don’t tangle. Either way is fine, just depends which you prefer. I do like my friend’s idea of the floss tags and may give that a try at some point. Thanks again for your note! 🙂

I use this bobbin holder that I found on Amazon, here is the link:
amzn.to/3z3yvQR
When I first used it, I thought it was too small.

Trying to decide when to start her . . . .

Hi Sharon, you are going to love using the VC silks! 🙂
Let me look up the item number of the bobbin case I’ve used and I will post it in this reply in a few minutes.
When you first put the bobbins in the bobbin case, they are a little snug, just push them down in and they will fit.
At first, I didn’t think they quite fit, but after giving them a push into the space, the foam adapted and they fit well.
Here’s the link to the bobbin case I’ve used for the VC silks:

@@karencombsstudio Thank you sooooo very much.
Which silk threads do like and how do you decide which ones to use, I want to try them.

You can use them in several ways:
I have a good friend who puts them on floss tags just like DMC.
I keep them on the bobbins and pull off a length to work on. I wind them back on the bobbin so they don’t tangle.
Either way is fine, just depends which you prefer. I do like my friend’s idea of the floss tags and may give that a try at some point.

@@yvonnevigil7489 I do like using it. When I ordered it, I had the Attic custom cut the piece I would need for Harriet Salt. It’s a pretty big piece, even on 56 ct. 😬 But I am enjoying the weeks linen.
Hi how can I get a berry bag
@@debrastuart5154 Hi Debra, best to follow Barrie on Instagram and Facebook. Her business name is Stitchfolk.
Also, you can go to her website (Stitchfolk.con) and sign up for her newsletter.
She usually announces available bags on her Instagram and Facebook accounts. However, please note, bag releases usually sell out in minutes.
