A person that tears up giving thanks to all those that have helped along the way is a very kind, humble person. Thank you for all that you’ve shared with us over the years. I love your FlossTube! You are such a talent!
Oh Karen. I wanted to come through the tv to give you a hug. What a lovely, touching video. So happy that you have your virtual setup though to continue whatever level of teaching you may do. Your space is INCREDIBLE! We all have the junk closets so you are not alone. Thank you so much for sharing.......
Thank you Karen for sharing your beautiful space for creating works of art. Outstanding ! Congratulations and wishing you all the best on your journey to new opportunities. I always look forward to your videos.
Such a beautiful career Karen! Think of all the people you have touched and continue to -so inspiring and we are so fortunate! I am in awe of your quilting. Tears well earned❤️ And your studio rooms!!! Oh my goodness - divine! Such organization. And I spy many coveted Queen hoops! How I hope to find one some day! Your design wall is a work of art! And holy moly, your command of technology for Zoom classes is incredible! Thank you so much for sharing such an important and special part of your life!❤️
Aw, Georgia, thank you so much! 🙂 One of my greatest joys is seeing someone in my classes accomplish something they don’t know they could do. I just love that. It took my husband and myself about 2 months to figure out how to pivot to virtual teaching. While the marital was the same, the delivery was totally different. Many hours researching equipment, recording and editing step out videos, but it was worth it. I was really proud of our final result. I do have a few Queen Hoops - only 1 wooden one and a few metal ones. I keep looking at antique shops and hope someday to find another wooden one. 😀 Thanks again for your sweet note, it means so much!
What a very special and beautiful video Karen! It was so nice to see your space and all your pictures. I’ve never quilted but I appreciate the art so much! Enjoy your upcoming travels! You deserve it ❤️
I enjoyed seeing your sewing room so very much! Each room show the signs of a career done well. Congratulations on your retirement. I wish you a speedy transition to a new normal.
What a wonderful and heartfelt video. Thank you for sharing your beautiful home and stitching spaces. Clearly, you have accomplished so much and have a great deal to be proud of. I've never quilted but can certainly appreciate the amazing beauty you've created. Every time I see your name I think of a dear woman who babysat for my brothers and sisters and I many decades ago, and whose home we purchased as our first home. Her name was Alta Combs. Anyway, congratulations on your retirement, and keep flosstubing , I always look forward to them Kathy
How fortunate that you have had the career that you did and that you got to build out your space to suit you. You made me get teary-eyed when you talked about retiring. Wear that crown with a smile knowing you worked long and hard to earn it. Best wishes to you 🎉❤.
Thank you so much, I was surprised by the emotions that bubbled right to the surface, but all is well. I am very thankful to have had an amazing career doing something I love so much. Thanks for your note! 🙂
Thank you, thank you for this lovely tour. Congrats on your retirement, and if traveling is your desire, please don't wait. I retired from nursing in 2020 thinking I would love to travel, but it was not to be. Two complete hip replacements and diagnosis of Rheumatoid Arthritis has kept me from traveling long distances, but that is ok as I have my quilting , embroidery and counted cross stitching to keep me "out of trouble".
Hi Bonita, thanks so much for your note, so glad you enjoyed it! Totally agree about not waiting, we already have a list for this year and next. 🙂 Thanks again!
What a wonderful career doing what you love!! Your creative studio is beautiful and so well organized. I love your Flosstube!! Thank you for sharing!! 🧵🪡
It was lovely to see your space, and after starting the video, I started cleaning my office, because your area and your organization are such an inspiration! Enjoy your retirement, and if you want to come back, go for it!
Hi Leslie, thank you so much for your nice note and I'm so glad you enjoyed the video. I've spend the past week going through my fabric/supplies. I'm keeping about half, but the rest is headed to two local charities. Took one load this morning, the rest will be taken by the end of the month. Thanks again for your note!
Congratulations on your retirement! Something we all work for! Enjoy your time doing different things now. I’ve been a quilter and a stitcher for decades.
Karen you are a beautiful soul. I cried along with you and I’m glad you left that part in. It was heartwarming to see how much your career and accomplishments mean to you. And rightly so. Thank you for showing your wonderful creative space and your organization of your many hobbies. You’ve given me inspiration to tackle my craft room mess. I don’t often comment but I felt you should know how much I admire and appreciate you and that I love your flosstube channel.❤
Thank you, Karen. I am always more interested than I have a right to be in what you, the flosstuber, is sitting opposite of. I imagine it to be where I would be sitting if we were face to face. I guess that is what makes me so curious about “my” surroundings. I truly appreciate your time, always, and your interesting episodes. I am always glad to settle in to view what you have been doing.
I was so lucky to have met you sometime early 2000 Wichita KS quilt guild. I have admired your quilting style ever since. I retired two years ago to take care of my husband…Parkinson’s Lewy body dementia..he passed in March 😢Now I just keep stitching and quilting…thank you for sharing your wonderful videos with me🧵💕
Thank you so much for your nice note. I enjoyed my visit with the Wichita guild! I’m so sorry about your husband, I know that was difficult. Glad you enjoyed the video and thanks again for your nice note! 🙂
So lovely Karen! I think this is the first time I've seen your quilts, and I am fascinated! Such beautiful depth! Thank you for sharing and love to Benji.
Dear Karen, thank-you so much for sharing your emotions and experiences and prodigious talent with us. You are laying one thing down in order to pick up the next batch of threads to work into the fabric of your life's journey. So relatable. xo ♥
Thank you for sharing your studio. What a terrific space and all that closet space! You see mess but I see nothing but tucked away storage 😂. Love it. I hope you enjoy your travels. I’m glad that you kept the original intro 😊. (I have a Featherweight too. It runs great and makes beautiful straight stitches).
Hi Karen, Thank you for such a generous view of your personal space. I can say that I have learned so much from watching your videos on cross stitch. I quilt but last year became a stitcher. I have asked questions of you and again your generosity in responding to me is outstanding. Thank you friend !!!!!! 😘
Karen, you are a natural born teacher, whether on zoom, RUclips, or the quilt show circuit! We are blessed that you share your talents with us and appreciate all that you do! Enjoy your ‘retirement’, although I don’t think you’ll be any less busy. Take care!
Connie, thanks so much for your sweet comment. I appreciate it so much! You are probably right, we are already looking at our “wish list” destinations and making plans. 🙂🙂
So, so good, Karen! Loved this segment! It’s OK to be emotional; as a former librarian I would say…”Enjoy the next chapter!” ❤️ It’s wonderful to have a peek into someone’s life.
Karen, we go way back. You are a wonderful Teacher and a forever friend. I have learned so much from you. From early quilt classes to watching your videos. Quilters and Stitchers never retire..they only change how they work. I loved this heartfelt video and the tour! ❤
Thanks for your emotional and heartfelt video! I am also a quilter, cross stitcher and knitter. I just wish that I could have attended one of your classes before your retirement! Your studio is beautiful. Thanks for sharing.
Being emotional means that you love what you do, & love all of the people involved. Your studio is so beautiful. Thanks for sharing. Good luck with your retirement & have travels. Marilyn
Thank you, so much, Karen for this tour! What an awesome space you created so that you can be creative. What a wonderful run you had and change IS emotional. I wish you all the best in your moving forward with the next chapter of your life! As always I’m looking forward to your next floss tube. You are a natural at teaching and I always learn something from you. God bless. 😊
Wow! Wonderful sewing room! Congratulations on your semi retirement. Well deserved….Enjoy! Thank you for your true heart & passion. Looking forward to watching & learning as much as I can from you. 🧶❤️🪡🧵
I have heard you talk about quilting but until this video I did not know you wrote books for AQS, judged quilt shows and taught at the quilt show in Paducah, KY as well as tons of other places. My mom and I used to go every year and we always took classes but it's probably been 23 years or so since we've been. It was always such a wonderful time. Now I need to go through all my AQS books to see if I have any you wrote. You have had an amazing career and I loved the peek of all the beautiful fabric you have designed as well as all your areas where you have worked and designed over the years. I hope you and your husband have many wonderful adventures planned. Congratulations on your retirement.
Thanks, Barbara! So glad you enjoyed the tour! I always enjoyed working with everyone at AQS, and am so glad their shows have continued after Covid. It’s always a joy to walk the show, see the quilts and view the vendors. 🙂 Thanks again. 🙂
Thanks for the sewing room tour! I have a larger sized Koala Cabinet and my leaf is up most of the time. I use mine for an older cutting mat that I now trim foams core board on using a box knife. I love that the sewing machine can be lowered and raised with a push lever 😊. My craft room would be much roomier if I had a closet setup like yours!
Hi Angela! Wonderful to hear from you! I often think of my visit to your guild, the fall leaves were so beautiful! New England in the fall, so pretty! Aren't the Koala Cabinets wonderful?!? I've had mine 20 years, purchased at the Paducah AQS Show. They offered the shipping, the sewing chair and several inserts as a perk. Couldn't pass it up and have been loving it ever since. I agree, love that the sewing machine can be lowered and an insert put in place to give even more area when needed. Thanks so much for your note!
Hi Karen! I was one of the Program Chairs who scheduled you for my guild in Rochester, NY. I took you to visit the George Eastman House while you were here. Before I drove you to the airport to head home, we stopped at Wegmans so you could have a nice dessert on the plane ride home. That was ages ago, but it was great having you come to my guild for a lecture and workshop. Best wishes to you in your future.
Hi Diane, so lovely to hear from you, thank you for your comment. I enjoyed my visit to Rochester so much and I remember walking into Wegmans and was amazed by it. I even told my husband about this fabulous chain when I got home. Thank you for taking me there, I loved it! Thank you for all work for my visit so many years ago, it is and was appreciated. Thanks again for your note, I loved hearing from you! 🙂
Hi Karen. I took the 3D blocks from you when I lived in Connecticut. Can’t remember if it was a shop or guild organized. Loved it! Don’t be sad that you are retiring. We all do but as you said, nothing stops you from an occasional class or cruise. Love the tour!
I’m not a quilter and so I haven’t had the pleasure of knowing you before your cross-stitch FlossTube. I can only imagine the impact you have had on the quilting world. I know from your FlossTube you are a wonderful teacher and I surely appreciate all that you share. Congratulations on making such a major decision and I hope retirement gives you the freedom you need to enjoy life even more.
Thank you, Karen, for the tour of your beautiful workspace. I've been a follower of yours since the 90s and got emotional, remembering all the quilty memories of the past. Now it's more cross stitch than quilting, and I love following that journey with you. Glad you can "retire" and hope you enjoy traveling for fun instead of work.
Hi Jaynie, so nice to hear from you and I appreciate your thoughtful note so much! Glad you’re along for the journey and thanks again for your nice note. 🙂
Thank you for sharing your space, quilts, and memories! I always sensed you had a teachers soul from your very first FlossTube without knowing too much about your quilting life. Now I know why! Retirement is a very emotional time no matter how welcome the change. Looking forward to more time with you on this side of the thread isle!
No idea why it took me so long to get to this video. It was wonderful. I liked your ideas for shelving. I have some old plastic shelves that are well past their expiry date and since they hold many book, patterns, and supplies, I'm super careful when removing or replacing an item. My creative space is much smaller (small house and no basement) but I've still managed to have that closet full of fabric when I need to sew something plus and assortment of sewing machines to use depending upon the project. My quilting skills are pretty basic. I saw a design at the end called Magic Cubes that looks just perfect for a quilt that I promised a friend for her new baby. She wants blue, green and white; using only three colors is a challenge to find the right pattern especially since I love a zillion colors. With Magic Cubes--assuming it's within my beginner skill range--a range of blues and greens would work out well. I also need to get on this project because the baby is now 5 months old. Oh, well, it can be made a bigger size which would be useful in the long run.
@@sandyp2485 Hi Sandy, so glad you enjoyed the video and thanks so much for your nice note! 🙂 Magic Cubes is made from half-square triangles and square in a square (square surrounded by half-square triangles). I would say the skill level is “confident” beginner who is familiar with those shapes. It’s pretty large, so it may be difficult to size down for a baby quilt, but perhaps a corner of it would work. Thanks again for your note!
Karen, What a sweet video! So touching to see how much you love your gifts of creativity and the desire to share with others. Wouldn't the world be a better place if everyone had that same attitude. Thank you for sharing your studio, I love seeing how other set up their spaces and the neat ways to organize all the stuff we must have to do all the things we love! Have a great summer and see you again soon. xoxoxo
Your working space is wonderful! Don’t feel bad about that closet - we all have one and at least stuff didn’t fall out at you when you opened the door 😂 I have one like that! I’m working on that same Chessie and Me piece - it’s so much fun.
Karen, what a lovely studio…thank you for opening it up to us so appreciated the tour. Congratulations on all your many achievements & success…I wish you much happiness on this next journey, traveling sounds enjoyable. See you on your next floss tube..
What a beautiful place for your quilting, cross stitch and knitting. Thank you for sharing and I can tell how much your quilting meant to you and everyone you met and touched with your heart and soul. As a knitter myself what do you like to knit? You may have mentioned this but is your Potoky a mini? Considering getting one and do you enjoy stitching with it? Thank you again. Many memories stored throughout which is heartwarming.
Hi Renee, thanks so very much! 🙂 I seem drawn to sweaters (just like I’m drawn to large samplers. 😂), but I also enjoy knitting scarves and cowls. I’ve made my Daughter-in-law several large cowls/shawls with Noro and she wears them all the time. My Potoky is a mini, I’ve had it about a year. I love it and use it every time I stitch. Thanks again for your nice note! 🙂
Fabulous craft room! I envy the space. And who doesn’t have closets and drawers that aren’t in total disarray! My stitching closet is an absolute mess and I love it. Enjoy retirement and I sure hope that doesn’t include your floss tubes. I have been cross stitching and needlepointing for 40 years and still learn so much from you and for that I thank you.
Karen, you have a beautiful space to stitch, quilt and create in, and even more beautiful heart! You made me cry with your rawness and genuine spirit. Thank you for inviting us into your space ❤
Thank you so much for sharing your studio…and your heart with us. It’s refreshing to hear someone who is so passionate about her work that she gets emotional speaking about it. I’m confident your teaching days aren’t over, they will just look a little different. Btw, love, love, love your EPP! Thanks again, Karen. We all appreciate you!
Thanks, Leslie. I appreciate your sweet note so much. 🙂 You are right, just as in Covid, still taught and connected with quilters. . . just in a different way. Wonderful way to look at it! 🙂
So happy for you!! You sweet lady need to have some fun and kick up your heels! You can still teach a block here or there on your RUclips or Zoom if you miss it. Didn’t know you were an EPP fan. I’ve a Lucy Boston in process and a Swinging Old Lady on the future plans list. Sounds like we have more in common than I knew, so I just hope if you head east you can stop for a visit in Winston. I’d happily take you to lunch for all the inspiration you have given me on stitching and the studio tour which is helping me further plan mine. Monday they finish leveling the ground and then the building starts in July. I will be using your design wall idea for sure and that physicians folder holder for rulers. Happy hugs as you move forward!
Thanks so much for your lovely note and congratulations on your new studio!! You will be in it before you know it. 🙂 I have a good friend who finished Lucy Boston, it is a beautiful pattern. Are you in Winston-Salem? Beautiful place! I taught for the quilt guild there several times and enjoyed touring old Salem Village. I think that was back in 2012. . . . Thanks for your sweet note, I’m so glad you enjoyed the tour! 🙂
I quilt so I loved seeing your quilts that were on the design wall and your studio. I especially like the red, white, and blue star. Do you have the pattern? Is it for sale somewhere? I would love to make it.
Hi Sherry, so glad you enjoyed tbe video and thanks so much for your note. 🙂 The red, white and blue star quilt is from my Lone Star Illusions pattern series. The designs are made from half-square triangles, no diamonds. We have them available as a PDF download from my Etsy store. Here is a link to the store: www.etsy.com/shop/KarenCombsStudio If you prefer a print pattern, you can order it from my distributor, Quilt Woman: www.quiltwoman.com/kcs-karen-combs-studio-karen-combs/ Thanks again!
Thank you for the tour! What holder are you using for you cross-stitch? You have a beautiful house and Benji is adorable! 💗 Thank you for all you do. :)
Thanks, Jill! My frame is the mini Potoky stand. Purchased it at Hobby House Needleworks. If they are sold you, you can add your email to be notified when they come back in stock. Here is a link: tinyurl.com/5n8creeh I've had mine a year and love it. Thanks again for your note!
Lovely studio space!! Would you mind to share the make and model of the sewing table your Bernina is in? (I have a Bernina which I love but I know it would get far more use if it were in a proper table but it is overwhelming to choose besides you don't see it in a real space.)
It is a Koala QuiltMate III. I purchased it in 2004, not sure they are still made. I did purchase the insert for my. Bernina QE separately, in 3019. Let me see if I can find out where. . . . I may have purchased the insert here: www.sewingpartsonline.com/products/koala-custom-cut-acrylic-machine-insert?currency=USD&variant=46936252711199&Google%20Shopping&stkn=8b7814f4b373&gad_source=1&gbraid=0AAAAAD6k45FbWPWorUh5FBIHUD0rzTXHN&gclid=CjwKCAjwps-zBhAiEiwALwsVYdYDP915G_s-ynPDLdBymEtt8CRhBEe8HVz6yq8VW2lqIxYKVpz_PRoCd-QQAvD_BwE
Dear Karen, thanks for the tour. I'm a quilter who also stitches. Im very interested in the 8 point star that is red, white, blue. Is that a pattern of yours and is it still available? So lovely to see your sewing space. Thank you.
Hi Katherine, so glad you enjoyed the video and thanks so much for your nice note! The red, white and blue star is part of my Lone Star Illusions series. The lone star is created with half-square triangles, rather than diamonds. The pattern is available on my Etsy store as a PDF download: www.etsy.com/shop/KarenCombsStudio A print version (which is mailed to you) is available from my distributors: Quilt Woman or The Quilt Exchange. Quilt Woman: www.quiltwoman.com/kcs-karen-combs-studio-karen-combs/ Quilt Exchange: paperpieces.com/collections/karen-combs Thanks again for your note!

Karen, we go way back. You are a wonderful Teacher and a forever friend. I have learned so much from you. From early quilt classes to watching your videos. Quilters and Stitchers never retire..they only change how they work. I loved this heartfelt video and the tour! ❤
Thanks, Rhonda!! I appreciate your sweet note so much! ❤️
Congratulations on beginning your new adventure! Your studio area is amazing. I am looking forward to seeing your stitching on Flosstube.
Thanks, Karen! 🙂
Thanks for your emotional and heartfelt video! I am also a quilter, cross stitcher and knitter. I just wish that I could have attended one of your classes before your retirement! Your studio is beautiful. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks, Mary! 🙂
Being emotional means that you love what you do, & love all of the people involved.
Your studio is so beautiful.
Thanks for sharing.
Good luck with your retirement & have travels.
Marilyn
Thanks, Marilyn! Sure appreciate your kind words. 🙂
Hoping you and your husband thoroughly enjoy your retirements, with great health, Karen. Wonderful video!

God bless. 😊
Hi Mary, so glad you enjoyed the video and thank you so much for your sweet note. I appreciate it so much! 🙂
Wow! Wonderful sewing room! Congratulations on your semi retirement. Well deserved….Enjoy! Thank you for your true heart & passion. Looking forward to watching & learning as much as I can from you. 🧶❤️🪡🧵
Thank you so much, I truly appreciate your kind note and I’m so glad you enjoyed the tour. 🙂
Thanks again.
Thanks, Cheryl! 🙂
Thanks, Clare! Your comments are so lovely, thank you so much! I truly appreciate it! 🙂🙂
I’m so glad you enjoyed the tour and thank you so much for your kind comments. I appreciate it so much! 🙂
Magic Cubes is made from half-square triangles and square in a square (square surrounded by half-square triangles).
Have a great summer and see you again soon. xoxoxo
Thanks, Barbara! I appreciate your sweet note so much! 🙂
Your working space is wonderful! Don’t feel bad about that closet - we all have one and at least stuff didn’t fall out at you when you opened the door 😂 I have one like that! I’m working on that same Chessie and Me piece - it’s so much fun.
Thanks Kathy! It was close to falling out, that’s why I didn’t open it more. 😂😂
Thanks again, your note gave me a chuckle. 🙂
Thanks for sharing your space.
Thanks, Sherry! 🙂
Karen, what a lovely studio…thank you for opening it up to us so appreciated the tour. Congratulations on all your many achievements & success…I wish you much happiness on this next journey, traveling sounds enjoyable. See you on your next floss tube..
Thank you so much!! See you soon on the next FlossTube! 🙂
I seem drawn to sweaters (just like I’m drawn to large samplers.
Thank you Karen, lovely to see your beautiful space and how much it means to you. And embrace the mess, it’s part of your creativity!
Thanks, Sara! 🙂
How wonderful! Thank you for the tour. Incentive for me to straighten up my small room that is cram packed with so much.
@@fancypants6697 So glad you enjoyed the tour and thanks for your nice comment! 🙂
Hugs to you Karen! Enjoy this next exciting chapter, and have lots of fun!
Thanks, Bonnie!
Hi Stacey, thank you so much! I appreciate your nice note. 🙂
No plans to stop doing FlossTube, I’m so glad you enjoy it! 🙂
Thanks again for your note!
What a beautiful video and journey, my best wishes for your retirement, many blessings ❤️
Thank you so much!
You have a beautiful workspace ❤ Congratulations on your “retirement” 😁
Thanks, Ally! 🙂
Karen, you have a beautiful space to stitch, quilt and create in, and even more beautiful heart! You made me cry with your rawness and genuine spirit. Thank you for inviting us into your space ❤
Thank you, Julie! I appreciate your nice note so much! 🙂

You are right, just as in Covid, still taught and connected with quilters. . . just in a different way. Wonderful way to look at it! 🙂
Loved your studio tour! I need to get back on my Bernina and do some quilting! ❤
Thanks, Debora!
I have a good friend who finished Lucy Boston, it is a beautiful pattern.
The red, white and blue star quilt is from my Lone Star Illusions pattern series. The designs are made from half-square triangles, no diamonds.

I've had mine a year and love it.
Let me see if I can find out where. . . .
I may have purchased the insert here:

Dear Karen, thanks for the tour. I'm a quilter who also stitches. Im very interested in the 8 point star that is red, white, blue. Is that a pattern of yours and is it still available? So lovely to see your sewing space. Thank you.
Hi Katherine, so glad you enjoyed the video and thanks so much for your nice note!
The red, white and blue star is part of my Lone Star Illusions series. The lone star is created with half-square triangles, rather than diamonds.
