To be honest, the quick but nicely worded answers happened often, but were not as genuine as Nathan’s uncomfortable slow responses. Through seasons 6-10

I agree to a lot of what you said. The love shown between Nathan and Elizabeth was there and there was never a kiss. With Lucas it was always a kiss and never the contact of feeling that was between Nathan and Elizabeth. She never gave Nathan a chance. It was not a try angle. Nathan was always left out. Nathan had true love feelings. That's why he could never fall for another woman. I think they they left a lot of holes in some of the scenes and didn't follow through. I hope that as the story goes on they bring have more action and let Elizabeth go on.

The great thing about Nathan is that he has the same level of respect when Elizabeth is around and when she’s not around, doesn’t seem so true for Lucas

Spot on with your analysis. Season 8 IMO was a complete writing failure. It was just strange, especially if you are a fan of Janette Oke;s books. Something strange must have happened behind the scenes for it to be so sloppy. That season did not make sense and I stopped watching for 3 years. I am back now and found your you tube videos, wish I found them earlier.

I kept tabs on Kevin McGarry and Kayla, and thus found out that Nathan and Elizabeth are back on. So, I am watching WCTH again. I enjoy watching your scene analysis. Hope you come back and do more!

Why would she say I have to go or it will be harder for me to leave. If she wasn't in love with Nathan she would have never said that. She was afraid to admit she was really in love with Nathan.

This is just another clue that it was always meant to be Nathan. I'm loving their relationship moving forward in S11.

I just don't understand why the writers took us on such a roller-coaster ride. Nathan declared he loved her twice and she obviously had feelings of love towards him too. She was just fearful. Then she rejects Nathan and moves on with Lucas. I found that unrealistic. Maybe she rejects Nathan for awhile and just conetrate on raising little Jack until she could admit her feelings of love for Nathan. Not move on with anither guy, Lucas because he is safe. I feel that E & L relationship was nothing but lust, not safe love like the writing team wants hearties to believe, but I guess safe love is what they say it was) Elizabeth had the deep connection and love with Nathan. At least the writers are correcting course in S11 getting Nathan and Elizabeth together as a couple.

This scene was beautiful but heart breaking. She loved him. She was just fearful. When Calls the Heart took us on a roller-coaster ride with Elizabeth rejecting Nathan. Then Elizabeth trying to move on with Lucas because he was safe. Elizabeth dumped Lucas (which WCTH took to far-they never should have gotten engaged in the first place) because she knew he was the safe choice not a great love like Jack. Lucas and Elizabeth may had some physical attraction (lust, not true love or maybe it was a safe love like the writing team says, but honestly I saw lust when L & E kissed) but she was missing the deep connection and love she had for Nathan. At least WCTH is getting Nathan and Elizabeth back on the right track in S11. I love this gentle love comes softly storyline. They are dancing in the next preview for Sunday's show. WCTH better be done with the triangle and have Elizabeth date and marry Nathan with them blending their families together!

Very interesting coming back to this video after seeing season 10 when Nathan runs into Lucas and Elizabeth together and makes a comment about love not being able to be forced. Kind of came full-circle, this idea that she couldn't force love with Lucas, which is how they end up playing it when she realizes that he was the safe choice, but not the true choice.

You pinpointed something really crucial here toward the end of the video: how duped many Nathan fans (including myself) felt when it seemed like the whole season had been pointing to Nathan only for it to be Lucas in the end. This was during Covid, so I vividly remember rejecting the show following the end of season 8 because I was so invested in Team Nathan and in the incertainty of the Covid world, I needed something to go "my" way (the way I wanted it to and thought it should), so as silly as it sounds, Elizabeth choosing Lucas on the show was just too much for me at the time. But I'd forgotten until watching your video just now that part of my anger and hurt was because I felt like I'd been completely baited-and-switched for many of the reasons you highlighted in the video. It doesn't sit great with me if there's truth to the idea that for the majority of the season they hadn't decided where the story was going. I think that mostly bothers me because now having come back to the show and watched seasons 9 & 10 ahead of season 11 coming out soon (which I will admit I only did because I'd seen spoilers that things were once again turning in Nathan's favor), I look back at elements of seasons 7 & 8 that have always supported Team Nathan and certainly support the new storyline they are forging with Elizabeth turning away from Lucas and back toward Nathan, but I have to wonder how much of that was intentional? In some ways, the thought that maybe certain moments *weren't* put in there as breadcumbs along the trail but were rather moments of "luck" that now happen to support where they have since decided to take the story cheapens season 8 in particular a little bit for me. And I say that only because, again, taking the series in its entirety at this point, everything back in season 7 & 8 as far as Nathan and Elizabeth goes is so beautiful, so I'd hate to think that the rainbow we're getting on the other side of the Lucas storm is just chance instead of a beautiful grand design. All that said, even if it may get me labeled a "fair-weather fan," I've enjoyed my return to Hope Valley, and I am so excited to see what season 11 will bring. In some ways, the deep emotional reaction of the hearties is a testament to the writers and actors because it shows how real their story feels and how invested everyone is in the characters' lives. A big factor in my stepping away from the show after season 8 was that I felt like Elizabeth was betraying herself and acting completely out of character in her choice of Lucas (which you discussed quite a bit in this video). Essentially, I felt like everyone- Elizabeth herself, Nathan, Allie, Little Jack, the viewers- had been let down, everyone except for Lucas. Now coming back to the show, I've been able to see that all of my instincts were right (at least in terms of how they've since developed the story), which in a weird way has almost validated the very reasons I had to step away. However, at the time, you can't know how long a show is going to last and when they've made such a big deal out of this decision, you have to assume that it's the one she's sticking with. I think it's reasonable that Team Nathan was devastated when she chose Lucas and that they wouldn't move on from the end of season 8 thinking she might "change her mind" (I put that in quotes because I would very much argue she hasn't changed her mind so much as realized she's been in denial for 2 seasons). I think you kind of have to look at it with a "you win some, you lose some" attitude, and Team Nathan fans figured that just like the character himself, they have to cut their losses and go nurse their wounds. Now, of course, that validation I mentioned about my original feelings surrounding Nathan and Elizabeth and how the story is now unfolding is also cheapened when you consider the possibility that the pendulum swinging back in Nathan's direction was not part of their plans at the time Elizabeth made the decision at the end of Season 8. If any other Team Nathan hearties have made it back to the show in the intervening years since season 8 closed, I'd love to hear thoughts on how things have developed since then and how it relates to all of the things that hurt our hearts about Elizabeth not choosing Nathan at the end of season 8!

Love your analysis videos! I stopped watching after season 8 because I was so upset she chose Lucas, but I've come back to the show and am giving it another chance specifically because I heard ahead of season 11 (premiering April 7) that the tide is turning back to Nathan. If you're willing to give the show a shot again, you might have some interesting things to analyze!

It made me frustrated that she asked Nathan to ask her out on a few occasions (while being in a courtship with Lucas, which she wasn't fully transparent about with Nathan.) Then, she rejected Nathan. It was her idea for him to ask her out. Why did she keep baiting him that way? I could almost believe that she actually loved Nathan the whole time and just kept running away from him. I'm not sure if they intended that back then, but they do now. It's so frustrating that she led him on that way though. However, I liked Nathan so much more in the following couple of seasons. He became really funny and really developed. His looks of longing towards Elizabeth were so good though.

I'm sad by this. I can't help but feel like Elizabeth has toyed with BOTH men like a child playing with a yo-yo.
