Rewatching these earlier moments just reinforces, in my opinion, what a huge mistake it was to kill Jack instead of recasting. Sure fans would have been outraged, but at least we wouldn't have had the triangle debacle.
They should’ve not introduced a triangle without a plan on how to solve it. And of course they especially shouldn’t have switched writers in the middle of the triangle story. Triangles don’t work when the audience isn’t clear on who they want the main character to end up with. It was a great idea to resolve the damage of Jack dying , especially since Kevin McGarry is a screen favorite - but it would’ve only worked if they used Lucas as a way for Elizabeth to realize she can love a Mountie again because you don’t fall in love with the uniform you fall in love with the man underneath. Instead halfway through they switched writers and suddenly it was all very disorienting. They could’ve repaired the damage of Daniel Lissing leaving but they needed to be very clear on the how which they haven’t been since he left.

She broke up with Lucas because she couldn’t deny her feelings for Nathan any longer! If you watch season 10, you’ll know what I mean. Erin confirmed it and everything! Team Nathan is alive again🥳

For many viewers the outcome of S8 made perfect sense. So sorry some could not see the beautiful love story the.... the same theme of patience, that Jack and Elizabeth Shared eas clearly tied to L&E( though in J&E's relationship it was mostly E who had to be patient and with L&E it was Lucas who had to be patient.). This theme tied the story together and went deeper than just the 3season triangle but actually was meant to tie all seasons together. Clearly many parallels between actions of Lucas and Jack in their courting and in the sweet, supportive things they did for her . Lucas and Jack are two different men but similar. We all see stories through our own mind's lens, and that's okay I just kindly wanted to post in defense of the writers and of their choice Elizabeth and Lucas were courting and they had the romantic moments, the near kisses.... I believe Elizabeth learned the uniform was irrelevant in her choice. She could love the man , not the uniform. Yes, the first time she told N, no she seemed afraid to commit to a Mounty again, but the second time she was clear and firm that it wasn't about the uniform, but simply she wasn't in love with him. The writers had her be really honest with him. I saw many hints that N represented Jack to her and if she could have been in love with Nathan it would have been like honoring Jack and in her journey of grief a bit like holding on to Jack. Actually in admitting her love for Lucas she showed great courage, I say. that because of so many statements from TN about how wrong to pick a saloon owner over a Mounty ..and then there was the added element of Allie which tore at E's heart..... She followed her heart and that took courage. In my humble opinion I saw a beautiful story that mostly pointed to Lucas.... The night he set her free ... classic storyline in literature. I hope those TN who feel differently may come to at least accept the love story, if still preferring N. I think he and Mei or maybe Faith will have a nice love story. So hopefully TN can watch and enjoy N's happiness, but if not, I understand. I do agree that thethe triangle turned out to be a poor idea. I guess the writers could never have predicted how "involved " in their team/guy the fans would become... how intense we would be... Thanks for allowing me to express a differing opinion. I think both sides have/ had some valid arguments in defense of their choice and that it would be great if we all acknowledged that and even greater if we could as KM asked of us to, just go back to being Team HV❤

I'm re watching the show and I still love it! But I'll stop to season 5 or maybe as somebody wrote somewhere else till the birth of little Jack...
