Interesting BUT inconceivable that Judi's lead role in 67 episodes of the comedy romance As Time Goes By, from 1992 to 2005, did not even rate a mention. An unforgivable omission.

Yes, they deserved it. Both are astounding. Maggie Smith was amazing as McGonagall, but her role in Downton Abbey was so stunning, it made the show worth watching if only for her.

An absolute "Class Act".
And those two roles were later-in-life roles for her. I remember seeing her for the first time in "The Prime Of Miss Jean Brodie" - and was just amazed. I had been so used to US-produced razzle-dazzle stuff, where all the women were under-30, perfectly shaped Barbie dolls, and all the men were matinee idols - that to see a movie like that in 1969, when I was just 20 yrs old - was a revelation, that's for sure. I've adored both Dame Maggie and Dame Judi since I became aware of them - more than 50 yrs ago.
Oh did I love Maggie Smith in Downton Abbey, but she also played really well that mother nun in Sister Act. And then of course Judy Dench in James Bond 007.
I’m surprised Judy’s long time TV series “As Time Goes By” was omitted.

Idc what anyone says, Maggie Smith is literally the most talented woman to grace a screen, and I will legitimately weep on the day she passes as if it were my own grandmother. That woman is a treasure.

No question! Judi Dench is excellent too, but Maggie Smith delivers her comedic lines with perfection! I realize she is not the writer, but the one to deliver. Usually I can see a funny and cutting remark coming, but not with Maggie.Her timing and expression are the best!

If I had the opportunity of inviting 10 Actors to dinner and just spending the evening getting to know them, these two brilliant ladies would be the first ones invited. I love them both for what they've given us.
When filming "Shakespeare in Love" Judi Dench had to wear very high heels in order to be in the shot with Gwyneth Paltrow. The Spice Girls were very popular at the time, so she started calling the shoes "Tudor Spice". A nickname that was picked up by the director and crew. 😂❤️
Big mistake - Maggie Smith played the Dowager Countess Grantham, otherwise known as Lady Violet Grantham.
Mrs Crawley was played by Penelope Wilton.
Maggie Smith in The Lady in the Van was like Lady Grantham playing an eccentric elderly bag lady living in a van. Vagabond nobility!
Lovely. I have to say, Maggie Smith’s role in the 1993 version of ‘The Secret Garden’, where she plays the lady of the house, is phenomenal. She starts off as a bit of a stern, judgmental character, maybe even a villain, but she really just needs to keep the estate running efficiently. I recall her iconic line, as she’s locking Mary (the young troublemaker, who keeps escaping to the secret garden) in her room: “You stay put, or I’ll BOX your ears!!” And locks the bedroom door.😳😂 …
But by the end of the film, you see her character completely change, and actually SMILE & weep tears of joy-as the entire house, servants, maids, etc. all happen to see the (supposedly) crippled Colin walking, with his emo cousin Mary and his equally emo father…😊At that moment you see Maggie’s face completely change from the rest of the movie, as if everyone has this weight lifted off of their shoulders and it’s like, okay. All is good in the world again. Seriously, it’ll have me in tears. I’m such a sap, I’ll more or less cry throughout the whole film! I think it’s such an underrated masterpiece. The music, the scenery, the animals… The incredible adult AND child actors in it. I almost believe that each actor involved must’ve been channeling Maggie’s star power on set. She was easily the biggest star among the cast, yet her role wasn’t even a “main” character-though still integral to the story.

The first movie in which I saw Dame Maggie Smith was the 70s classic comedy, _Murder By Death,_ which features a fantastic ensemble of highly skilled people in each role, and is one of my all-time favorite movies to watch regularly. I highly recommend it.
The first movie in which I saw Dame Judi Dench was _A Room With A View,_ mentioned in the video. This is another all-time favorite to watch over & over again. (RIP Julian Sands, who played gorgeous George Emerson in _A Room With A View_ )
I saw them once in a 2 woman play. It was like tennis as each commanded the stage, then let the other shine.
Adore them both but Maggie is a particular inspiration.
Judi Dench was known also for nine series and two specials of AS TIME GOES BY, a British TV sitcom that I enjoyed.

Watching A Fine Romance was so much fun, two awkward people finding support and love, and knowing that they were married just showed what wonderful actors they were and are. Also laughed so often when watching As Time Goes By. Now I'm going to have to watch them again, again! 🥰🥰

Angela really was excellent. She had her detective tv series here in the US, taking place in Maine. Something happened between her and the channel that ran it, and she was quite rightly devastated. I hope they start to run them again on PBS. Occasionally I will be watching an
Older movie, and I recognize her, especially by her voice. But she stayed much the same in appearance ivdr many decades.
Love you Ms. Dench. Ms. Smith is awesome too.🇨🇦. Reruns of, “As Time Goes By” are still on PBS here Monday through Friday and I can’t count on both my hands how many times I have seen every episode (need both feet, too)!

I love these dames! I enjoyed "The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel" so much that I'm tickled pink to have learned there was a sequel. Judi and Maggie have such amazing chemistry together, whether they're the ladies having an adventure in "A Room with a View" or trying to make peace with living in a vastly different country to their own.

They both have hysterical personalities, natural delivery with poise and class, exceptional talent in stage, musical, screen and anything they set forth to due... a commercial! They have too many works to name between the two! I love both Dames.
Thank you for posting. These 2 great ladies entered their careers when great acting skills were required for successful careers. The succeeded because they were so good at what they did. That's changed a lot. Now it's all about celebrity and not fine acting. They are famous for the right reason and dont seem to have lost their humanity. Both are truly great actors and great ladies.
Iin Britian you don't always see beautiful women in roles even when they are young. But you fall in love with them because their acting is true to form. They don't produce Barbie Hollywood types to their credit. That's the difference between British , Australia,n,and Americans.We bring them over here

Absolutely wonderful video about two fantastic actors/Dames. I have loved watching them in anything they do. I remember The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie and was mesmerized by her acting. She always seems to have a secret that she knows and we want to know when she is up there. Maggie Smith had me from then on. Her part in Downton Abby keeps me in stitches laughing and reminds me of my Grandmother with her little quips under her breath. With Judi Dench I have enjoyed watching her do anything as well. Her portrayal of M in James Bond was a wonderful surprise and I looked forward to seeing her in the film just as I did Q when he was in the Bond films. As Time Goes By was also a favorite of mine and I love it when both of them are in a program together. Thank you for this lovely look at them both.
The first time I ever saw Dame Maggie Smith on screen was when starred as The Reverend Mother in Sister Act with Whoopi Goldberg. She became an instant favorite of mine. It warmed my heart to see these two legendary actresses getting their flowers and still going strong.
