Dame Angela is a true delight as Mrs. Pollifax. Her conversations with her deceased husband, Virgil, are at once charming and poignant. Whatever she stars in, Dame Angela is superb.
The wonderful Angela. Such a consummate professional, and seemed to grow more beautiful with every year! Not to mention a great role model in how to grow old gracefully.
This was the last movie I watched with my father before he died the following year. I was so captivated by the story that I bought all of the Mrs. Pollifax books written by Dorothy Gilman. As I read I pictured Angela Lansbury as Mrs. Pollifax. So entertaining. Thank you Angela.
ha ha! it is so good to have those memories to enjoy! It was the opposite with me - I read ALL of her books over and over and over. I finally found this on You Tube - I never knew they made it into a movie; so now here I am almost midway through 2023 watching this. Dorothy Gilman first wrote those books in the 60's I believe.
Watching this movie on 10/20/22. Sadly, I heard that Angela Lansbury recently has died just over a week ago on 10/11/22. She was born on October 1925. She was truly a master at her craft. She will be missed.
I find that I agree with all the wonderful comments about Dame Angela Lansbury. She is a marvelous talent and a true lady. I love her and I have loved everything she has ever done on screen, TV and the stage! As for Mrs. Polifax series, it is enjoyable and so entertaining. Whoever cast Dame Angela as Mrs. Pollifax made an incredible match. Excellent movie! Wish like everyone else that the series could have continued.
I absolutely love this movie! I have read all these stories about Mrs. Polifax. Angela was so beautiful and such a great actress. To the woman who commented below, good job you.
OMG! I have Mrs Pollifax books! I didn't know they were a film too! Just wish the quality of the image was better. But LOVE THIS!! Thank you for the upload!
Here I am one year later in the middle of COVID-19 pandemic with so many wildfires near me, our skies are orange and Jessica Fletcher rescues me from all this madness. Thanks again, Jess.💞
How are you doing now? We lived through TERRIBLE fires in NE Washington State, too, but where i live, we had no evacuations during tbe Pandemic, but it was a scary time... mostly because of crazy people ready to kill anyone who wasn't a vigilante hoping to overthrow the government. It seemed our community had lost its mind! It was as scary as the fires. Good friends were nuts with crazy ideas. Well, they still are, but they aren't so scary now. We are too old to be much trouble😄 Well, i do hope you made it through. I am trying to remember where the fires were. Maybe Calfornia or Australia ? God bless you!@@janethartwig774
I enjoy her movies and series. I play it on my phone and fall asleep to her pleasant comforting voice. Since I PTSD I find it as a coping asset to be my comfort.
I loves this movie, I had never even heard of it. Angela Lansbury is so lovely in everything she does. Now I am going to have to read the novels, lved the movie and found myself another favorite author. Thank you.
The first five or ten are absolutely delightful. Toward the end they drop off a bit. Initially as a kid I read the Reader's Digest condensed versions, and when I finally read the full-length ones as a teen, it was amusing to see I'd unwittingly spotted some of the cuts in that certain bits always seemed weirdly choppy to me. The one thing I will caution about is that if you binge them, you may start to notice that she uses certain distinctive adjectives and adverbs a little too often, in a way that a better editor would have caught, especially if she'd had the advantage of writing in the word-processing age (which with an author or editor do a quick search to see if memorable words recur too often). Gilman had a great skill for plot and character. _A Palm for Mrs. Pollifax_ is a particularly beloved re-read.
@@tejaswoman Thank you for your comment! Between mobility issues and isolation to avoid COVID, I'm looking for entertaining and interesting ways to spend my time. 😀👏👍👍
Angela Lansbury was in Gaslight, as about a 17 year old, superb performance, and has been at it ever since, in a remarkable lifetime performance on the stage, TV and movies. Lovely lady and gifted actress.
She was also in the Court Jester with Danny Kaye - it was a comical movie set in Merrye Olde Englande - with a "Robin Hood" them (the Black Fox). She was quite young in that one too. Of course she was also in Disney's Bedknobs and Broomsticks - quite good; and Murder She Wrote - which - although I loved the series - I didn't like the character she played too much (she seemed very 'know-it-all').
First movie I ever saw her in was Death on the Nile, then I saw The Manchurian Candidate and could not believe it was the same woman. She is just amazing!
Well, I think everybody knows Angela like Mrs Fletcher, but in this film I find her as a top class actress. She is so good at acting as a tender widow (talking to her missing husband), playing a sprightly aged woman, playing a "clever agent" (interpreting the CIA of intelligence ...) ... and all with a huge quantity of humor. Many thanks for posting it 👍

Landsbury is intelligent right down to her finger tips. No one can convey so much by just the flick of an eyelid, or pull of a lip in sardonic irony like her. She's the most natural and graceful actor ever.

If you feel like that , why are you here looking at it? In this world you should know by now that nothing is far fetched and that everyone especially the police need help.
Sure, her shows all have some flavor of the old 1940's debutant fluff movies she starred in when young. But really...not so terribly far-fetched....As overloaded and slim on crime solving staff and tools as police departments commonly are, they can use all the real help they can get. Police do rely on objective, accurate witnesses. And of course her shows all have some humor and lightness to them....similar to those old movies. We could all use a bit of her brand of fluff sometimes LOL!
Wonderful. I missed this when it first played on TV. I didn't have a VCR back then and I don't recall that it was ever televised again after that. Thank you for sharing. Now I can enjoy this. I so loved the books.
Oh, if only they'd made more Mrs. Pollifax movies with Angela Lansbury. I have seen many movies she was in and every single one was excellent. This one was just delightful and I'll be sure to watch it again.
They missed a huge part of the book. There was SO much more to the story than this, especially the lengthy escape process. They also added stuff that was never even in the book or they combined several different books into one episode and mixed up the characters. It was still fun to watch this, but it was definitely somewhat confusing after reading the books.

I have read every Mrs. Pollifax book. And I saw Mrs. Pollifax spy with Rosalyn Russell. And I must say I think Angela Lansbury‘s portrayal is spot on. With Rosalyn Russell they made it all about her not Mrs Pollifax. It was too hype that star which was nowhere near the character it should’ve been. Thumbs up to Angel Lansbury. I wish she would’ve done more. Mrs Pollifax books into movies.
Ms. Lansbury got her first screen role in "Gaslight" 1944, got her first Oscar nod as supporting actress for that movie and never stopped. She could play nasty and sweet and charming. Absolutely an American treasure even though she is British. Happy viewing from Las Vegas, NV August 26, 2018
@Valerie Texan Hardly a bombshell - she was a friend, contemporary and co-star to a real bombshell, the late Elizabeth Taylor. Angela Lansbury had quirky, unconventional looks and was never a great beauty. As she herself happily admits!
Have you ever seen "Please Murder Me"? I believe she was nasty, sweet, and charming - all three - in that movie. Raymond Burr's performance was pretty great, too.
My most favorite scene among tons is where Ferrell and Pollifax are in Paris Embassy and Ferrell is asleep with Pollifax is beside him playing solitaire and he wakes up and tells her the placement of the Jack in her solitaire. That whole scene deeply touched my heart showing that heart deep friendship can come about anywhere. Hope the movie companies realize there are people out here who haven't given up hope that such plots and actors still exist and someday more movies will be made. On an aside I do not know why they made the actor Bishop so stupid. He certainly isn't in the books. There is enough stupid in the initial interview scene, ah well not enough slips to wreck. They certainly destroyed Clive Cussler the author didn't. He was right to fight Sahara that was a waste. Again may someone please bring Pollifax back, I am an optimist that somewhere there are actors and actresses like these 4 as in Ferrell should appear frequently. I am wistful that anyone is still reading these posts sigh.
I read the books many years ago enjoyed them very much. I only found this movie by googling to see if there had ever been any movies made. I would sure like to see more of them but it would be hard to replace Angela but it could be done.
Thank you for sharing this delightful movie. Love Angela Lansbury. I read that she is a very gracious person, much like the character she portrays. When members of the crew leave, she is said to organize going away parties for them.
This was fun because I have recently discovered, on RUclips, the audiobook stories of Mrs Polllfax;written by Dorothy Gilman. Angela fits the starr bill exactly, and simply adds to her vast collection of successes.
What a delightful movie! I've read the book, but never seen the movie. And of course, who doesn't love Angela Lansbury? She's amazing in everything she's done. I'd love to have this on DVD.
Angela Lansbury is a true delight. Her films are like a sweet confection that doesn't upset your tummy no matter how many times you eat it, and you never get tired of the taste.
I rarely want a dessert....most are way too cloyingly sweet. Always felt same way about Angela....too terribly saccharine, like a drug addict hooker, only uppity.
Angela Lansbury, what a wonderful actor she was.. She is so brilliant in any of her movies and she brings a touch of authenticity to her various roles. A truly wonderful actor, thank you Angela.
Murder She Wrote is one of the best series ever made! I know people in every generation that love it. It's fun. It's a cozy. It's not hokey at all. She'll surprise you. She's mighty. It's really well crafted, the characters are believable & really good, the mysteries interesting, with variety in the settings & plots. The pilot episode is nowhere near as good as the rest of the series. Don't judge by that one. They made her fluffy in that first one, then fixed it, & it never got tired, just better & better. There's good reason it ran as long as it did. It must be on here, it's on TubiTV free movie app, & your library either has it or can get it through interlibrary loan, it's popular with so many kinds of people. I rately rewatch movies, bc I remember what happened. Those are the one thing I can watch multiple times & still enjoy them as much as the first time.
It is such a pleasure when a truly talented woman has an entertainment career over the span of decades. Lansbury's star has shone upon film, broadway, stage, and tv. Oh and she was a hot sultry babe in her early days too.
what an unexpected and delightful surprise, thank you very much for uploading this. Such talent - she was perfect for the part, pity there is not more, it would have been a great series. And when she said the doctor would have made a good game show host or cruise director - I laughed so much - it was priceless and spot on .....
They are the perfect spies these old ladies! Nobody would believe it. They can move about largely ignored. If they do something suspicious, credit it to dementia. LOL!
As an older person, I can arrest that we are overlooked and marginalized and at times we are invisible....you all will see what I mean, if you are 'lucky' to reach oldster status.
I've only had time to skim this movie so far, but I can tell the plot is very different than the book by the same name. I enjoy this movie very much, though I also love the first movie starring Rosalind Russell and Darren McGavin. That earlier movie follows the book much more closely, and Darren McGavin's Mr. Farrell was much more like the book's version. Darren McGavin was like Angela Lansbury in that he was a brilliant actor and could do absolutely anything, including infusing wit and humor even into the most dramatic scenes.
@@rowanaforrest9792 You are the second one who said that about the original movie - I will really have to find it now. I LOVE Angela Lansbury, but I don't like when they change the story too much.
I find it very sad that they didn't continue to make Pollifax movies. I read the Mrs. Pollifax books as a teen and thought that when I got to her age, I would like to be a spy and have such adventures! Now I am almost 60, and I am nowhere near being able to have this life. But perhaps if I take a train...
Oh, thank you very much for showing this. I just love her and she is one of my 20 yr old daughters favorites too. I have to let her know about this one.
Dame Angela Lansbury was an amazing actress. Thank you RUclips for making this truly entertaining movie available for our viewing pleasure. When ever I see the name Angela Lansbury in the credits I always watch the movie, and I am never disappointed, always enjoy the movie. Why don't the movie studios make enjoyable entertaining movies with truly gifted and talented actors anymore?
Ditto for me! When the books first came out (starting in 1960's ?) the Reader's Digest collect put them in their monthly books - that was how I first found them as a child. so now I have a collect of every book Dorothy Gilman wrote - some I definitely do not like , but I have still read them all. The Pollifax series were the best!
@@mchrysogelos7623 I also first found them in my Mom's Reader's Digest books! Those volumes held some great finds over the years, including Mrs. 'Arris Goes To Paris which also had a TV version starring Angela Lansbury (I didn't care for the theatrical version that came out last year).
Thank you for posting this video, I appreciate it. I love this movie Dame Angela Landsbury is marvelous, I love her. Angela Lansbury, ever delicious 💜. Like the way this movie displays so many of the ways verbal communications can be screwed up. Not quite as maddening as 'Who's on first'.
It is suggested that when one reaches one's senior years that puzzles such as crosswords etc, keep the brain active and can reduce the onset of senility.Well perhaps governments have missed a trick, lol. They ought to recruit their senior citizens to become secret agents. Dame Angela Lansbury is one of the UK's greatest exports, she may now be a US citizen of many years but I still see her as one of our own. I hadn't seen this gem of a film in quite some time so it's a joy to see it here.
I WISH I HAD BEEN ABLE TO MEET ANGELA LANSBURY. THIS BEAUTIFUL, WARM AND FUNNY WOMAN WAS A TOTAL INSPIRATION FOR YOUNG WOMEN AND OLDER WOMEN, TO KNOW THAT THE SKY'S THE LIMIT. I LOVE AND MISS YOU MISS ANGELA.
Wish the film was better quality. Nevertheless, the story line of the movie was a delight and Angela Lansbury was her usual glorious self. Wish there were more--both movies and with Ms. Lansbury!!!
Sad to say, I had to keep looking away to give my eyes a rest. But the movie was worth watching anyway because Angela Lansbury is such a treat to watch.

I loved this . Always liked Angela Lansbury, watching 'Murder she wrote'. 😍💗💋
Thank you very much for uploading. 🙏
Download clipgrab, then you can capture the movie and keep it in your files - thats what I have done
Theres another movie with Rosalind Russell. I wish they would make more.
Thank you for posting this great movie
I did it again, I found another great movie thanks Chris for posting.
Angela Lansbury is a true delight. Her films are like a sweet confection that doesn't upset your tummy no matter how many times you eat it, and you never get tired of the taste.
@Tran101
Couldn't have said it better myself! 😉
Tran101 me either, WOW
What beautiful way of putting it I agree
I rarely want a dessert....most are way too cloyingly sweet. Always felt same way about Angela....too terribly saccharine, like a drug addict hooker, only uppity.
She is truly a wonderful actress. I never get tired of watching her movies and Murder She Wrote.
What a delight Angela was in this role! I'm so glad I chose to watch this.
This was a great movie! Thank you for the upload!💜💜💜
I really enjoyed watching this movie. Angela is always a favorite! Thank you.
😍😍😍😍😍😍😍 LOVE IT! I've heard just about all the audiobooks and absolutely love Mrs. Pollifax! This is GOLD! THANK YOU FOR POSTING!
.love it or list it
Kendra Simmons Where did you find the audiobooks?
@@trinidad2450Hey there. I rented them online from my public library.
@@kendrasimmons2475 What a great idea! Thanks so much.
@@trinidad2450 No problem! There are also some on You Tube ruclips.net/p/PLz6dci549sYqickzpbP7YYc77TJHFAuEN
Love the books and didn't know any movies had been made. Thanks for posting...Lansbury was a wonderful Pollifax!
Angela Lansbury, what a wonderful actor she was.. She is so brilliant in any of her movies and she brings a touch of authenticity to her various roles. A truly wonderful actor, thank you Angela.
I love Angela Lansbury and always have and always will! She w as a great actress, RIP Dame Angela Lansbury!
Loved the Pollifax books, and this movie didn't disappoint.
Delightfully entertaining. I never watched any of the “Murder, She Wrote” programs. I am now thinking that I may have missed a series worth watching.
Yea you have! I hope you're watching them. Angela is worth to be watched in any of her endeavors, but mystery is her best facet.
Murder she wrote is really good
Just go to the computer and you can watch them all.
Those are the one thing I can watch multiple times & still enjoy them as much as the first time.
..and the "MONK" series, too.
It is such a pleasure when a truly talented woman has an entertainment career over the span of decades. Lansbury's star has shone upon film, broadway, stage, and tv. Oh and she was a hot sultry babe in her early days too.
I loved this movie it was very funny
I enjoyed watching angrla lamdsbury in this wonderful movie
what an unexpected and delightful surprise, thank you very much for uploading this. Such talent - she was perfect for the part, pity there is not more, it would have been a great series. And when she said the doctor would have made a good game show host or cruise director - I laughed so much - it was priceless and spot on .....
Thanks for this movie. What a career she has.
Thanks so much for sharing!! Love love love Angela 💜💜💜
Me too!!
A delightful break from reality. Mrs. Pollifax does not disappoint! 😄
I loved the Emily Pollifax books when I was younger, I always thought they were such fun to read. Who would expect an older lady to be a spy?
@@eltoyongardener1225 They are also SO overlooked (little old ladies) EVERYONE ignores them.
When are you turning 60? So am I!
😂😂😂Yes, start with that! 😊
Sara K Love your comment!
I turn 62 this year. Wonder if the CIA is hiring? Haha!
You good always start detective-agancy
I was so thrilled to see this, I watched it 3 times in a row. THANK YOU!!!!!
I have been looking for this movie for what feels like forever! Thank you!!!!
This was a good clean movie. I enjoyed it, thank you for the upload!
Oh, thank you very much for showing this. I just love her and she is one of my 20 yr old daughters favorites too. I have to let her know about this one.
One of my favorite great actress rip dear Angela thank you for your great movies gone but will never forgotten ❤❤❤
Loved the movie! I wonder why it's not on DVD anywhere. I never heard of it before. Thank you for posting it and sharing. It was fun to watch!
Dame Angela is magnificent. Thank you and rest in peace wonderful woman. 💙
Angela Lansbury is such a delight!! Just found this, thank you for uploading this!!! Wish there were more!!
"'Good girl!' My late husband used to say that to me all the time... one of the few things about him that annoyed me!" 😁 you tell 'im, Mrs Polifax!
That one made me smile and giggle ❤
Wonderful,, I always enjoy Angela Lansbury.
Thank you for the great movie.
Love Angela Lansbury.
❤
omg such a cute movie ... I just love her acting
I've been a fan of the Mrs. Pollifax books for decades - how did I never know this movie existed until now? What a pleasant surprise!
I love this movie Dame Angela
Landsbury is marvelous, I love her. I also love her in her show
Murder She Wrote 😊❤ she

for many many more years. I
still love her.

God bless you 🙏 Be well.
Thank you for sharing. Big fan here of jbfletcher!
Thank you so much for uploading this. I’ve been waiting over twenty years to see this.
And this fine lady is 93 now well done Angela and it's 2019
She is magnificent.
Love her !
Still alive in 2021.
Sadly she died October 11, 2022. RIP.
Delightfully funny, a real comedy of errors that I quite enjoyed. Thanks for posting.
@Cathy......that was so funny the way she became a spy. LOL
Oh my goodness. How delightful!! I love Angela. Whether Mrs. Fletcher or Mrs Pollifax, she is truly the Dame. Well done indeed.
I'm searching everywhere for this movie to buy, but can't find it. Thank you for posting it; this is the first time I've seen it.
So far it's fantastic!
Thank you for sharing
So nice to find funny clean entertainment😁. Such a great actress!
I'll see it a thousand times more as if I'll be seing it for the first time; this is how much fun, fresh, and delightful this movie is to me. Thanks for sharing it!
So glad i found this vid, love Angela Lansbury and all her mysteries ! thank you for posting !
Having read several Mrs. Pollifax books...Angela Lansbury portrayal meets and exceeds my image of Mrs. Pollifax when reading the book.
Thank you for uploading this film. Angela Lansbury 👍🏻.
Delightful! Whole family enjoyed from child to adult! Thank you, Mr. Johnson.
