      Hi thanks for the comment and please take a moment to subscribe! If you'd like an in depth purchase walk-through I offer this on my patreon but I'm happy to answer a couple questions! 1. Always make sure you inspect the frame and watch some videos on identifying carbon damage, if you aren't already familiar. 2. For a clean frame without any major cosmetic flaws, PLUS a complete Dura-Ace 7700 groupset for $440 is a GREAT PRICE! Dura-Ace 9 speed is some of the best road stuff you can buy, only downfall is shifter grips are becoming rare and you need to keep an eye out by setting ebay alerts.

    Hello! It"s me again! I bought Permatex 81950 Ultra Slick Engine Assembly. Question: use on lifters and cams? Or where else?

    • @D2WrenchWorksDIY
      @D2WrenchWorksDIY 20 дней назад

      Hi again! I always just used new oil (cheap) but yes you definitely want to lube up all contact spots on the cams and when dropping in the lifters on the sides and top! These are the only areas that're important. Assuming you already bled your lifters out, dont forget that before install! If you pulled your fuel pump fuse like me, you will leave it out once finished and turn the car over for 20-30 seconds. This'll prime the engine with fuel as well as oil, so nothing will be dry and it'll start up quicker.

    I'm lost. You say 6.5 pounds per foot and then 18 pounds per foot, but my key is in NM and LB-IN. More: the gasket manufacturer REINZ provides a different sequence for tightening torque screws 1) 25 Nm -2) 90 degrees 3) 90 4) 90 degrees

      I'm in USA we are late adapters to metric system unfortunately lol. I am just telling you what the specs are from the book, don't shoot the messenger! For smaller numbers like 10 ft/lb I do convert them on my phone to in/lb and use the smaller torque wrench when needed. To be honest anything this low 99% of people just ignore and do it by hand lol.

    These mid-late 80's schwinns have cool paintjobs and are underrated for sure. Awesome to see the metallic/flake in the paint after your cleaning. Looks like the retromod is going to be fast and efficient. My 23mm ultrasports are oversized too so it seems that's just a ultrasport tire thing.I haven't picked up any bikes recently since I got so many deals earlier in the year, and back to jonesing for a fun project. My technique for rounded allen bolts is to find the closest torx size and hammer it in.

    • @D2WrenchWorksDIY
      @D2WrenchWorksDIY Месяц назад

      Thanks for the comment and please take a moment to subscribe! I thought the same on the paint, came out awesome! You defintely hit the nail on the head with the ultrasports, they are BIG TIRES lol! The lady I sold it to did the exact same race and went 45 MINUTES faster so it was much faster for sure! On the stripped allen/crank bolt cover, good tip! I tried EVERYTHING but I didn't try a torqx mainly bc I don't have one on a screwdriver type. I hammered in a flathead, gripped that with pliers and used the sledge to turn it while pressing in. I'll have to grab some torqx screwdrivers soon though!

    The Bicycling Mag article on this bike is not correct. The Tenax tubing is not rebadged SL / SP. In an article on the 1985 Tempo which is basically the same frame - a Schwinn exec stated Tenax was similar to SP, same gauge and weight. Others have claimed Columbus has said it is Cromor. Based on weighing my Tempo frame only (about 2250g for a 23") it could be either one but the frame is too heavy to be SL. An SL frame would be down closer to 2000g ish.

    • @D2WrenchWorksDIY
      @D2WrenchWorksDIY Месяц назад

      I'm using an actual Schwinn catalog for reference (you can see it in the video a couple times) and have never seen a bicycling mag article. This is also a 1988 so I don't think you are correct here.

    • @impaledface7694
      @impaledface7694 Месяц назад

      I have heard similar. I do know that a 27.0 seatpost is either cromor/matrix or sp. Where as SL/SLX is 27.2, which makes sense as a thinner, lighter tubing with a similar OD.

      Many thanks again! To hold the gaskets in place when needed like thermostat housing for example, I use vasoline as it's sticky and cheap plus won't hurt anything in the engine. Dielectric grease would work great too 👍

    Thanks for the rundown, I wish someone did this sooner. I bought a blemished 2018 model about 5 years ago, and it doesn't have the stem length issue. Though it had mtb disc brake calipers on it for some reason, and those have been a pain. I finally ordered some TRP Spyres, which should be a lot better. The rear axle broke, though I've heard that's from an inherent design flaw in freewheel designs. The stock tires kept going flat and the front shift cable fell off, so i was running it in 1x7 for a while because I didn't know shit about bikes back then 😂

      Hi N8 Thanks for the comment, and please take a moment to subscribe! Yeah, I honestly bought this bike because it was ALWAYS top rated on amazon, but I've literally never seen one used or even one being ridden. I'm sorry to hear about the MTB calipers, but I can't say I'm surprised and stuff like this is just inexcusable, especially cheaping out on safety items like brakes. The wheels are definitely something with a short shelf life and are better just upgrading completely, 100%. Stuff like the bartape, saddle, and tires are absolutely something you should trash from the get-go. It's an added cost, which is always unwelcome, but constant flats are a huge pain, and being uncomfortable sucks. Now, with all that said, once I was done with the bike, I rode it to sell to the new owner and it honestly felt great. I mean, it took me like 6 months in searching and chasing after customer service for headset stuff, but it was nice when I was done, lol. Just alot of hidden costs because they cut corners and aren't a real bike company nor any different than a Walmart bike IMO.

Is your bike also a triple crank with Shimano 8spd shifters? Im actually going to do a video on this I've decided! I've been getting the question alot and I just bought a bike that has this exact issue.

      Hi Chuck, I actually just replaced the from derailleur on my OCR3 (spring tab broke, like they all do) and a "FD-R2030 Claris 8-speed front derailleur" is what I used. It's commonly available and works with no problems.

    Thanks for the video, excellent stuff. I'm gonna take a guess that you don't have a pro $80K camera !! My Sora R3000 right shifter (9 speed) seems to index/click shift when I take if off the drop handlebar - I see the cable indexing around it's "housing" but I lose any shifting when I screw the unit onto the handlebars!! The levers just move back and forwards (against the internal spring) but without any shifting or indexing. The cable isn't actuated at all once on the handlebars. Confusing. Do you think it's the same thing and I need to get rid of internal gunge and re-lubricate ? thanks

      Hi Deepak! Thanks for kind words and the laugh, unfortunately despite 600k views I'm stuck using a busted cellphone. The small channels dont make much money, so I do the best I can haha. This is a good time to ask you to subscribe and like the video lol. I actually have a video on a very similar r2000 and I've had this issue before where, when bolted to handlebars, the shifter is engaged by the shifter grips and im wondering if that's your issue. Almost never do you see these new generation shifters having issues unless someone previously jammed a cable and forced the shifter which isn't a grease situation at all. Here's the video: ruclips.net/video/reAHjMnMCQg/видео.html

      And, any idea if those decals exist for purchase somewhere? The decals on my frame are super faded/scratched, and would like to update them if possible. I would even buy plain white decals and paint them pink if needed.

      Hi Tate! Sorry for the long delay, I have been moving the past month but wanted to answer your questions thoroughly, please also take a moment to subscribe! So this frame takes a standard modern 1" headset! Origin 8 pro is a perfect example, I recently used a cheaper THREADLESS version from NECO you can find here: amzn.to/47zBNIo if you aren't using a threadless fork like I am, you can see the headset cup specs. The bottom bracket is a standard 68mm threading and the width is dependent on your crankset being 2x or 3x. I highly recommend a cheap digital micrometer from amazon so you can verify your frame for yourself. For the decals basically ANYONE on Etsy or ebay will have cannondale decal kits or if you measure your lettering and Google a color # you like, they'll make it cheap! Keep an eye out for my next Cannondale project coming out too!

    Is that a Suspension corrected rigid fork? Isn't this something you need to consider? I am considering do this on a Cdale MTB and the silk road fork is NOT raked like yours! What should I replace it with?

    • @D2WrenchWorksDIY
      @D2WrenchWorksDIY Месяц назад

      Hi Wilytuber and thanks for the question! Please take a moment to subscribe! All forks rigid or suspension have an angle to them, called the rake. On a OEM suspension bike, you are asking about adding a larger travel fork and yes there will be minor changes but you should stay close to oem travel to minimize it, somewhat. You may notice the steering is faster or slower depending on the way you went in suspension travel. Its extremely likely you wont though, at first a bigger fork may steer slower, or not be as twitchy but you will soon adjust. When it's minor differences like this, you dont see any negative performances. Now going from an 80mm fork to an 140mm travel fork is a substantial difference but on a hardtail where geometry isn't as affected you could get away with it. l always try to match the travel of the original fork to what I got or slightly bigger and its always worked well for me. Also I'd always recommend at least trying it, regardless, because a bike being able to be ridden is better than one that cant!

    Outstanding video. Thank you for the time you gave and information you shared. I'm hoping you can help me. I have a 2007 Toyota Matrix, as I understand is the same as a Corolla, I paid a mechanic to change the clutch and flywheel. I lack time and tools to get the job done myself. From the day I picked up my car I have had an ongoing issue that I never had prior to the clutch and FW replacement. You maybe able to shed light on what might be the problem. When driving, regardless of speed or gear I am in, if I go over irregular road surface, e.g. train tracks, the RMP will drop out completely for an instant and then resume. This doesn't happen all the time though, Now the problem has gone from RPM dropping out and resuming correct RPM to stalling the car. When the car stalls it will start right up again and then drive no problem until the next time it happens, which could be at any moment or go for days without a problem. In trouble shooting this I have replaced the spark plugs, new fuel pump assembly, mass air flow sensor and cleaned the intake system. All work done by mechanic (different mechanic who changed out the clutch and FW) hoping that this will fix the problem. He also checked any fuse issues, loose wire harness, ground terminals, and love tapped almost the entire top surface of the engine to see if there's a loose connection somewhere. No luck. When the clutch and FW were replaced, is there a chance that a cable has been stretched or plug that isn't connecting properly in a less obvious place other than the top side of the engine be the cause of this worsening intermittent problem? Any suggestions/advise is welcome. Many thanks, Steve.

      Hi Stephen, thanks for the comment and please take a moment to subscribe! We were recently displaced from our house because of flood damage and have been dealing with moving, so forgive the delay! I am curious if a wire was pinched or there could be a vacuum line. This is an extremely difficult issue to diagnose without putting my hands on it, but here's what I'd do, retrace your mechanics steps using this video: -1. Check your grounds and vacuum lines, including your pcv valve. All of these are clutch related and could be a vacuum leak or ground issue. -2. Are all connections fully pressed in from this video? Sometimes, unplugging and fully pressing in plugs gets them to fully snap in -3. Run the car for codes and proceed from there -4. I hate Facebook, but they have some EXPERT folks in Matrix & Pontiac Vibe groups, I'm in all the groups myself and reference them often for oddball stuff like this!

    Awesome build man! I have a 5200 OCLV as well. I'm curious what size tires are you running here? I was thinking of converting my 5200 to a gravel bike and was wondering what you think the biggest tires you can run on here? You think it could run a 28C or even a 30C?

    • @D2WrenchWorksDIY
      @D2WrenchWorksDIY 2 месяца назад

      Thanks man and please take a moment to subscribe! I have a few other 5200 builds on the channel and a similar LeMond! I absolutely love these frames and I wish I had one today though! I used to take mine on singletrack rides through state parks actually haha so you asked the right guy! You can DEFINITELY fit 28c tires but not 30c's, the ONE TIRE that I wouldn't buy is the 28c Continental Ultrasport's because they are HUGE compared to other 28c tires. Thickslick, Bontrager race and Panaracer Pasela are some of the brands I know 100% will work. My current Cannondale caad4 is super tight on 28c tolerances so I just went through this last year haha. If you are unsure I would definitely use amazon prime for easy returns in case the tire doesn't fit!

Part 1: ruclips.net/video/hPiKQTVcLs4/видео.html Part 2: ruclips.net/video/ZEGmOpG1qXg/видео.html You'll want to slide out the inner dustcaps on the RSX shifters, it's better to remove these and soak them in hot water for while! The 7 speed shifters can be the absolute worse so use hot water and a degreaser and be patient.
