    I just bought a Fuji Stratos R and i love the retro feel of it. I understand the satisfaction of turning it into a gravel bike, but I'm thinking of keeping mine retro. Perhaps some Sugino or Rene Herse cranks to accentuate the feel, even an older classic Ultegra derailleur. You got a nice build there, i hope to share mine later.

      Thanks for the kind words and please take a moment to subscribe! Also, HECK YEAH MAN CONGRATS! I wish they made them and sold them here! I TOTALLY get what you mean on the retro gone new vibes haha it's definitely why it's such a favorite of mine! The crank is pretty good stock IMO, honestly the best mod was the STI shifters from microshift! Having the nicer grips and more comfortable riding positions is a huge plus. I dont ride gravel much myself haha, I just like really wide tires for harsh roads, but it's also nice to always have the option to hit crushed gravel too! If you like the idea of an ultegra RD you can always go 9 speed microshift shifters and pickup a sunrace Cassette for around $30! I did a similar build on a nice steel Marin you can checkout here:

      @@D2WrenchWorksDIY I've subscribed already 👍 I think I might put 32mm tires on mine, but a friction shifter on the rear too. Perhaps a vintage 8 speed Dura Ace or Ultegra rear derailleur, along with 11-32 or 11-34 cassette. Wider handlebars too. I want a daily rider retro bike. 👍

      @rpiereck74 Thanks for the support! Your build sounds awesome man! My stars n stripes cannondale is setup 52/38T crank and 11-32T Cassette with an ultegra 6500 long cage derailleur! I just did 22miles on it this past weekend and it was perfect for hills and still had plenty of top speed!

    2011 with friction?

    • @D2WrenchWorksDIY
      @D2WrenchWorksDIY  Год назад +1

      (Friction left that is) I forgot to mention it even has fender mounts front and rear! It's a true classic but made in 2011 haha I wonder who designed it for they were an 80s cyclist I'm sure of it! I love it though, I'm not complaining...Wish I saw it more actually hah!

      They're still made today with friction

      Yup Rpiereck is correct, almost EVERY Tri bike sold today and since creation uses these exact style shifters, left is friction and right 8/9/10/11spd! Touring bikes too!

    Are 11 speed chain rings compatible with 8 or 9 speed chains?

    • @D2WrenchWorksDIY
      @D2WrenchWorksDIY  Год назад +1

      Hey Al! Great question! 11 is extremely narrow and won't work with 8 speed. I know the inner dimensions of 9 and 10 speed is near the same or is the same so it MAY work with an 11spd but not sure how well it would shift haha.
