Outstanding video. Thank you for the time you gave and information you shared. I'm hoping you can help me. I have a 2007 Toyota Matrix, as I understand is the same as a Corolla, I paid a mechanic to change the clutch and flywheel. I lack time and tools to get the job done myself. From the day I picked up my car I have had an ongoing issue that I never had prior to the clutch and FW replacement. You maybe able to shed light on what might be the problem. When driving, regardless of speed or gear I am in, if I go over irregular road surface, e.g. train tracks, the RMP will drop out completely for an instant and then resume. This doesn't happen all the time though, Now the problem has gone from RPM dropping out and resuming correct RPM to stalling the car. When the car stalls it will start right up again and then drive no problem until the next time it happens, which could be at any moment or go for days without a problem. In trouble shooting this I have replaced the spark plugs, new fuel pump assembly, mass air flow sensor and cleaned the intake system. All work done by mechanic (different mechanic who changed out the clutch and FW) hoping that this will fix the problem. He also checked any fuse issues, loose wire harness, ground terminals, and love tapped almost the entire top surface of the engine to see if there's a loose connection somewhere. No luck. When the clutch and FW were replaced, is there a chance that a cable has been stretched or plug that isn't connecting properly in a less obvious place other than the top side of the engine be the cause of this worsening intermittent problem? Any suggestions/advise is welcome. Many thanks, Steve.

Hi Stephen, thanks for the comment and please take a moment to subscribe! We were recently displaced from our house because of flood damage and have been dealing with moving, so forgive the delay! I am curious if a wire was pinched or there could be a vacuum line. This is an extremely difficult issue to diagnose without putting my hands on it, but here's what I'd do, retrace your mechanics steps using this video:
-1. Check your grounds and vacuum lines, including your pcv valve. All of these are clutch related and could be a vacuum leak or ground issue.
-2. Are all connections fully pressed in from this video? Sometimes, unplugging and fully pressing in plugs gets them to fully snap in
-3. Run the car for codes and proceed from there
-4. I hate Facebook, but they have some EXPERT folks in Matrix & Pontiac Vibe groups, I'm in all the groups myself and reference them often for oddball stuff like this!

6:35 You can remove the transaxle with the LH axle still in the diff and then use the C60 shift fork and a rubber mallet to pop the axle out once the transaxle is on the ground. Edit: You can also put a 1/2" 19mm socket wrench on the crank bolt with a cheater bar to hold the flywheel while installing. It won't come loose.

Thanks for the comment! I did this LH axle recently and it came out like butter second time bc I used what they call a "Demolition Screwdriver" and with a couple wacks of the mini sledge on the flats of the axle it came RIGHT OUT! I have heard of the clutch fork trick but didn't have a spare one around and theyre not cheap enough to hammer a good one lol

Hi Maureen thanks for comment and please take a moment to subscribe if you haven't already! The Matrix has been running for a while now but I'm ironing out issues they commonly have as well! I also got a bunch of work done on part 3! I'll get that out in the next few days! Keep an eye out for part 4 that covers common issues too!

Thank you I appreciate that, it takes forever filming and editing these types of videos haha! Please take a moment to subscribe if you haven't already! I got a bunch more XRS content to come! Unfortunately the past couple weeks weather has been a nightmare but I will have part 2 out in the next couple weeks, one way or another! I am getting close, transmission is in...which is definitely the hardest part alone btw LOL. Felt like I kicked my own butt the next day haha.

Ah man that is a bummer, these guys never got much attention but they are starting to sell fast because they are such great budget cars imo! I am ALSO looking for a Corolla XRS for my wife to DD bc it's so similar to the newer 6spd mazda 3 we used to have haha. Your car is actually what got me into looking at a Matrix actually, I saw one in traffic one day that had awd and was like wait that would be perfect for winter but almost double the mpg of our v8 4runner lol. Randomly found this car and was like wait the xrs is really awesome actually, and here we are!
