Scotty quick questionim hoping you can answer real quick. In looking into a 2004 Lexus rx330, 1 owner, Carfax says it's clean l. Dealer selling it for $5k, $1500-2k below market value. Haven't checked it out in person yet, but what do you think about those?
I love my 2006 Matrix. I gave my wife my Lexus GS300 after I married her and bought the Matrix. Since 2006, I had never have to drive more than 8 miles a day forth and back from work. For the last 1 year, I have to drive 71 miles a day forth and back from work. I gave up and bought a 2019 Hyunday Kona EV. I can't go back to the lawn mower of the Matrix for work anymore. I can feel every bump on the road in that car. Because of the loud engine/tires/wind noise, I have to really crank up the radio to listen to the news. It's not like that because it is old, it has always been like that since day 1. However, I am still keeping my Matrix for out of state driving for my photography hobby. I still have my 2005 Matrix AWD. It's very reliable and practical. Yes the ride is firm but you get used to it. The only problem with the Matrix is they have a lot of wind noise on the highway.
Agreed ! These cars are very noisy on the road... HOWEVER....that can be fixed with sound deadening in all doors, lifting up the carpet ( without removing ) and adding it there, cargo mat helps with road noise, doubling up on floor mats front and rear....and most importantly.... QUIET tires. Trust me, I own the Pontiac vibe, which is the sister vehicle 😎....it will be a totally different car if you follow those steps. I have owned this car for 12 years and it rides quieter than when I first purchased it.....even with front ebay struts LOL 😎
@@spenserchalkley7013 Exactly my point. Scotty said "...Carfax says they've never been wrecked". Carfax doesn't say that. They just say nothing has been reported. Scotty knows this because he mentioned something similar when he talked about buying a used rental fleet car. Toyota can be boring but it will save you money and headaches except for the newer ones 2002 Camry was probably the worst ever and they will never be as good as the 4th generation models heck Camry is even better than the Corolla or the celica that scotty has.

@@tazrinahmed5326 I am now running a 2015 Corolla (about 153,000 miles). Not as useful as the Matrix business-wise, but a nice car. I'm doing much less mileage now, compared to the past (605.000 on 2006 Matrix, 455,000 on 2001 Toyota minivan), so should last me a while.
A honest mechanic, dishonesty is why I have done most of my own work for 55 years. I love Scotty, I have watched many of his videos, can't disagree with anything he says.
One of the worst things about the 1st gen Toyota Matrix was its radio. No joke. The early ones shared a GM head unit with the Pontiac Vibe and all the letters and numbers, in true GM fashion, would wear off. Toyota remedied this in 2005.
I love the feeling of how heavy mine is and the small size. I really feel like I’m driving it instead of it driving me. At this point, with the money I’ve put into my ‘03, I’m restoring it and not repairing it. I never want to let it go.
My recommendation for buying electric cars is stay away from the Leaf. Their battery packs have insufficient cooling and they tend to wear out quite fast. All other manufacturers employ some sort of active cooling to keep the battery pack cooled/heated. If it's a low mileage one in a place like California, it may be OK. But more hot/cold climates may see higher loss of total range on a full charge due to degradation.
I own an 04 matrix xr since zero miles. The c59 5-speed transmission died at 80,000 miles, even after changing the oil twice on it! I installed a c60 6-speed transmission from an 04 Celica gts, and it hasn't given me any troubles at all anymore, even after 400,000miles, and it's still going! As for the suspension, I have Tokico HP shocks, and TRD springs. It sits 1.25" lower in the front, and 1" lower in the rear. Stiff ride, but it handles the way it should have handled from factory. It's slow as he'll, but it suits my needs.
mo aljo thinking of doing the same trans swap because my 5spd is crap too, but how did you deal with the shifter cables location toward back on 5 spd and toward front on 6 spd?
They sure do... Very rough ride, but the 6 speed is nice. Long trips really aren't too bad if you swap out the seats with more comfy ones. We take ours out from Seattle to Montana at least once a month.. Odometer stopped years ago but 2nd engine is doing fine but bumps suck, can't deny it. Neon was more comfy
Scotty, on the brakes going out from time to time. I had a Honda Accord that did that. I am 61 years old and have done my own work my whole life. I found on after much checking that on the right side the lower caliper pin was stuck, needed to be cleaned and greased. This was causing the caliper to reset to the lowest point of extension ever time the brakes were used. After cleaning and re-greasing the pin everything worked as designed. I love you channel, all good advice!
I have a 2009 matrix and had it for a little over 3 years. Great car but yes i agree they do run a bit rough on the road. I got lowering springs for it because the car sat up high and was a nightmare driving on the freeway cause it acts like a piece of paper in the wind the car would feel like its swaying left and right so i lowered it and dont really have that problem anymore. It also looks good too. But the ride quality didnt really improve lol 😝
2007 Matrix recall for the ecm circuit board cracking. 1.8L water pump failure and intake gasket failures are common. Engines knock and rattle loudly on start up also common. Exhaust manifold studs are rusted and exhaust leaking at the head. Ask me how I know. I have the same car even down to the colour as scottys. 259,000 miles.
@@Bada_Boom78 Too lazy to list, but google "car complaints 2009 corolla" and that should get you the info. If yours has been reliable, and you've had it a while, perhaps you got lucky.
03 Matrix. Oils leaks but got them fixed. And windshield leaks water when it rains. Lots of black silicone around it and stops the leak. These are common problems with the 03 - 09 Corolla, Vibe, and Matrix. Rough riding but it's paid off and works perfectly.
Whew, I thought you were gonna ruin my day cuz I drive a Vibe and was so happy I shared that with you - you basically have confirmed what this Chevy boy learned after inheriting my Pontiac - Toyota made the engines etc to last. One of the best 4cyls (VVTi) ever in my opinion/experience- much better motor than the 88 Civic I had that I also loved but, damn gremlins!
I used to drive a V50 1.8 Diesel for 2 years. Unfortunately it's hardly a Volvo at all. The V50/S40 shares many parts with the Ford Focus and the engine was designed by PSA. They but the same engines in Citroen and Peugeots as well. After I got a trouble code that the DPF cannot regenerate anymore, I got rid of it as soon as possible. The car has6 around 110000 miles at that time.
Car fax is not 100% reliable because the information is only what is reported by dealers and some repair shops. The mileage at title transfers is reliable. When shopping craigslist for a scion tc for our son 5 years ago we caught two odometer roll backs and one hidden multiple owner history. Ultimately we did find an honest tc that is running great to this day.
Could you help me to find out if it worth to buy 2008 or 2012 Toyota Camry for 9000 dollar with 100000 miles ? The problem is Toyota cars in Saudi Arabia is very expensive and I am considering the fuel mileage
Thanks for the Video. You are so right about CarFax..... When I traded in my 2010 Malibu, the sales person told me they checked the CarFax, and could not find anything. I asked to see it.... The deal was already done so I had nothing to lose. I told the guy that the rear bumper cover had been replaced twice and the front bumper cover had been replaced once..... So much for a clean CarFax....HaHaHa. It was all really minor stuff...traffic cone in front and parking lot damage in the rear, but still No Record....It was at the same Body Shop each time.
Cousin Jude ... See if you can find a 2WD version. Cheaper and less to go wrong. If you opt for 4WD, you should intend to take it off road and engage the 4WD occasionally. I find it absurd to buy equipment and never use it.
@@JW...-oj5iw I didn't even think about that. Thanks. I've always gotten 4wheel drives, because I lived in the northeast, but I'm in GA now and have no need for it.
Cousin Jude ... I live in central AZ and see an absurd plethora of 4WD and AWD vehicles that will operate in minimal rain, no snow and very rare muddy roads. The SUV models used for dry, level commuting are a sin to have equipped with AWD, yet there are thousands out there. More expensive. More things to fail. More commission for the sales person.
So right about Carfax being a joke. A bought a 2 year old Lexus with a clean Carfax. Later found the paperwork in the owners manual where the hood, fender, grill, headlight and bumper had been replaced after an accident. One of the largest Lexus dealers in Florida did the work and did not report it.
Paid the asking price on a 2001 Dodge ram 1500, 4x4, v8, clean, 168,00 miles last year. Runs flawless, cold ac, cracked dash, had a cover on it, ripped drivers seat where you get in and out, body great, paint, ok.Glad I found it for that price.
For 2019, Toyota introduced the new Corolla hatchback. Unfortunately, they don't offer a wagon Corolla in the USA that they do sell in some European countries
Had a 2005 matrix. Best car I’ve ever had till my son wrecked it! Had 235,000 on it and was just a baby. Could have gone 200,000 more easily. But I’ll agree with a little rough ride. But if you can get over that awesome car.
I have a 2009 Vibe with the 1.8 engine. On truly cold starts (like the car has sat overnight) the car will start right up - no problems. If it has only been sitting an hour or two though, the car will struggle to start. I don't have to keep cranking, but it will stumble and falter until it really catches, and then will smooth out and behave normally. During that stumble and struggle I will hear the VVTI gear rattle just very briefly. On normal starts I do not hear it at all. Possible suspects: 1) dirty throttle body 2) Mass Air Filter sensor 3) fuel pump 4) VVTI gear 5) Spark plugs / coils 6) clogged fuel injectors. Any other ideas? I'd appreciate anyone's opinion and advice on how to diagnose for certain.
For the dude looking to soup up the 03 civic, I have one myself and it’s not worth it fam. The D17A2 is butt and only puts out 127hp and has economical Vtec. I would just lower it on coils, give it some wheels and make it look nice. Also recommend upgrading the front brakes to drilled and slotted, helped me out a lot
We all know you love Toyota. But Toyota is not what you try to make it out to be. Back in 2001 I purchased a brand new Toyota MR2 Spyder the car handles like a dream. But used a quart of oil every 1000 miles and Toyota said this was normal. When I sold it the car had 25000 miles on it and used 2 1/2 quarts of oil every 1000 miles and Toyota still said that was normal. I would never buy a Toyota junk.
Another thing to consider about electric cars is the cost to power them, take your monthly electric bill and triple it, that's what you should expect when charging these things
We used to have a 2011 Matrix, and the ride was definitely hard. Our 2018 Prius C is more comfortable suspension-wise, even if it’s a much smaller car.
It's always smart to buy used, because that way, someone else takes the big depreciation hit. My favorite value for money is the 2004-2007 Highlander. Pilots don't have the strongest transmissions. Overall, a 2008-10 and 13-16 Sienna is a better value than most three-row SUV's, just that you get the minivan stigma.
I just bought an 05 toyota matrix base with 65k miles. Had 1 owner. The weirdest thing about it is that it doesn't have any lights between the visors. Has automatic windows but no lock buttons near the window controls on the driver side. I guess that's what the basic package was in 2005?
I have a 2005 XR and it now has over 300K miles, maybe 320k. The odometer on the first gen stops counting at 299999. I have only changed the alternator, fluids, serp belt, front brake pads. Amazing car.
The problem with the Leaf is the battery isn't heated or cooled, the battery will deteriorate because of this. Lithium Ion batteries don't like it too hot or too cold.
I've owned a 2003 Matrix for 13 years. Only good expierence about it. Its indeed a little rough on standart 205\55\16 tires. I like it more on 215\65\16 tires. And in my opinion the worst thing about the car is the side mirrors. You can't really see anyting in them, they don't fold and don't have heating. Also Matrix has no noise insulation and the headlights are not so good. And although I had the maximum XRS version, I had to install seat heating myself
Hey there, I’m in the market of possibly buying an 08 Toyota Matrix and I’m trying to fall in love with it to help push my decision more towards spending the $7770 that he wants. It’s automatic and has minor cosmetic issues that can be fixed/painted. The 4 speed worries me bc I am use to a 5 speed. I like to go on long road trips to Utah/California. Not sure if this is a good choice for myself although the car camping space would be phenomenal.
What is your opinion for a minivan or a crossover SUV? I am thinking about a 2014 to 2016 Honda Odyssey EX or Touring for a eight-passenger minivan and a 2011 or 2012 Lexus RX 350 for a crossover SUV - it only seats five passengers unfortunately. For a eight-passenger crossover SUV, I would go for a 2011 or 2012 GMC Acadia SLE or SLT with AWD.
On the Odyssey, the 2016 has fewer transmission issues than the 2014-15. Also look at the 2009-10 or 2013-16 Sienna. The Acadia is pretty much GM junk.
Pontiac Vibe is the same car. Made in the Tesla plant in CA. My worker bought one with a. Big Discount because it was a Pontiac and discontinued Brand. Went 220,000 miles.

I got a 2005 Pontiac vibe the same as a Toyota matrix it's got 26800 miles still got the factory clutch it's been a good a to b car. Love driving it. I surprised I lot of people about how bit will run
Scotty, what would you consider a fair price for a 2006 Toyota Tundra, V8 with 44,000 miles? It was owned by I an elderly gentlemen that has passed away. It was in two cosmetic parking lot accidents but most of the damage has been repaired except for some paint rub and a cracked brake light cover. I've hooked up my scanner and it has no code and all live data is good, just a TPMS light. I'm not looking to rip off the widow selling it but I don't want to over pay for it either. You have mentioned several times in your videos that the values on KBB can't be trusted. What do you think? Thanks for the advice and great videos!
Long story short: I love my Matrix in the summer but absolutely hate it in the winter. I have FWD with snow tires and I’m lucky to not have the car slide on my way to work (going 10 km under the speed limit and super cautious as well).
i just wrecked my 2010 toy matrix 1.8 stick shift. i loved it. it got 22 city and 34 high way. i bought a 2009 pontiac vib 2.4 all wheel drive with 100,000 miles. the gas mileage really sucks. any ideas what to check to improve it. is this the wrong place to ask questions?
Hi I am already at over 208,000 miles with my Toyota Matrix XR automatic transmission. It is a very well designed vehicle that does need maintenance like any vehicle. However, there are so many second source parts available for my car. You don't have to buy OEM parts from Toyota for 3 or 4 times the price of great second source parts. Most or all of these parts come from China, India, or south east asia already. Huge containers arrive at the Toyota assemble plants being placed into the new Toyotas as OEM parts every day.
What is the best (reliable for a long time) manual transmission sports car to buy today (new or used under 45K Canadian)? Either for summer drive or 4 Canadian seasons.
It pretty much doesn't exist. Most people don't have your tastes. The only new car that I see worth buying these days is the Tesla Model 3. The Standard Plus trim qualifies for the federal tax credit, even with Full Self Driving optioned in, and if buying a Model 3, the FSD is all but necessary -- youtube search "tony seba freightwaves" to see why.
Scotty, Ford says that each hour of idle time in park, on a Police Crown Victoria, is equal to 33 miles of driving for the engine and exhaust. What do you think of this estimate? They do have an hour meter on them.

I had never seen a leaf here in Texas, when I first did I was honestly confused and had no idea what I was looking at. I guess that's why. Too hot.
100 percent of people watched this video because they were surprised to see scotty having something negative to say about a toyota.
2:48 Scotty so serious about Mercedes 🤣👍🏻
The reliable 1991 Mercedes e190 came with a British crosworth engine in Europe
Cosworth?
I drove a Toyota Matrix from Fresno California to Spokane Washington and back. It made the trip just fine.
Whats your mileage now?
The reason why Scotty hates the Toyota Matrix is because it’s not a 1994 Toyota Celica
Got an 05 matrix that still runs with 5k mile oil change along with original trans and suspension. Amost 200k miles as we speak.
@@alvinsimba734 I got 300 on mine everything original too😂 it doesn’t wanna break only thing had done was a head gasket
They are also very loud inside. And have the same turning circle as a Ford F-150 pickup.
Having owned both, im not sure about the turning radius been the same, how could that be ?
is it worth rebuilding/replacing a 2010 hemi 5.7 with 148k mi that's experiencing misfires in one of the cylinders?
Do you know for sure that you need a rebuild? I had two misfiring cylinders in my 3.0L V6 Honda Accord, changing the sparkplugs fixed the problem.
The worst thing about the matrix is they did not look as good as the Vibe.
2003 xrs look awesome
Scotty hating Toyota? Someone pulled their sponsorship 😂
That is not really Scotty. That is Scottys evil twin who hates Toyota.
Dang....i went through 1 water pump...new struts and rotors up front....240k miles 2003 automatic xrs
@@Bada_Boom78 '09 is in a different generation -- but the first year of that gen you have has issues of its own.
Rough riding but it's paid off and works perfectly.
hi scotty, i have a 2004 vibe gt, how can i upgrade the suspension/?, as you said it is rough
You might want to change alloy wheels and use base model wheels.
TITLE: "Here's Why I Hate My Toyota Matrix"
First sentence in response: "I love 'em..."
Isn’t the Toyota Matrix the same as a Pontiac Vibe?
CalisRemedy - Yes.
Yep. No real difference.
Yes joint venture...toyota drivetrain
CalisRemedy drivetrain wise pretty much the same, for looks Vibe wins, ac compressor on my Vibe is acdelco not denso, so a clone sort of
Vibe is really good looking. Matrix meh
The fact the your Toyota Matrix has turbo kits available.
EvoEvan Nismo because it’s just a Corolla engine
I'm thinking about buying an 05-06 Toyota 4runner as an everyday driver. Is it a good idea?
yes, if you don't care about gas mileage, they can last a long time
@@scottykilmer thank you so much! I don't mind the gas, because I need the space for my catering business.
My matrix is drawing the battery over night I just replaced it and still same thing any ideas?
The Toyota Matrix is built on the Corolla design, so the ride - don't expect much. It is a basic, reliable car - nothing more, nothing less.
Love my matrix, got 27500 ,on it ,runs like dream , all highway miles
27,500 miles?
128,000 on my Pontiac Vibe and yes it runs rough but plenty fast.
I am considering to buy a seven or eight seats SUV. Should I buy a Toyota Highlander or Honda Pilot? Should I buy a used one? Thank you.
Agreed with above. The Pilot's weak point was the transmission and rear differential.
I just bought an 05 toyota matrix base with 65k miles. Had 1 owner. The weirdest thing about it is that it doesn't have any lights between the visors. Has automatic windows but no lock buttons near the window controls on the driver side. I guess that's what the basic package was in 2005?
Reving up my 03 Matrix XR engine everyday with original parts it has 280,000 miles still going strong
I have a 2005 XR and it now has over 300K miles, maybe 320k. The odometer on the first gen stops counting at 299999. I have only changed the alternator, fluids, serp belt, front brake pads. Amazing car.
Hey Scotty, what are the springs that you have on the matrix?
He said he put motorcycle shock on it, that's why his matrix is bumping.
I put good years on my vibe iron helps alot much better
Avoid CVT.
I've got an 04 Toyota Matrix. It's pretty good but going past 60-65 it does get rough.
Can you tell me what shocks you put on your Matrix? Please
Pontiac Vibe is the same car. Made in the Tesla plant in CA. My worker bought one with a. Big Discount because it was a Pontiac and discontinued Brand. Went 220,000 miles.

Omg. I just bought one because he spoke so highly about them. It is a loud rough ride. Engine does sound solid.

Hi Scotty, what shocks did you put on the matrix?
I always take your advice. And this time I need you experience. I wants to know if I could buy 2012 mazda cx9. Please.
Great video Scotty!
Huge containers arrive at the Toyota assemble plants being placed into the new Toyotas as OEM parts every day.
hey scotty i have a 1994 dodge dakota with 297,000 miles, what should i start to replace?
Everything
Oh C'mon, comparing a Matrix to a Lexus? That ain't fair.
92 camry, way smoother than 2000s civic and the matrix (all personal experience)
What is the best (reliable for a long time) manual transmission sports car to buy today (new or used under 45K Canadian)? Either for summer drive or 4 Canadian seasons.
Toyota lexus
@@D4x4Bronc They don't have manual transmissions mid-range sports cars anymore. The Toyota 86 is is a subaru BRZ and not very fast in acceleration.
I love how he said(run 4 ever)..
Title says "Here's Why I Hate My Toyota Matrix" - Twelve seconds into the video Scotty says "I love 'em."
Scotty, Ford says that each hour of idle time in park, on a Police Crown Victoria, is equal to 33 miles of driving for the engine and exhaust. What do you think of this estimate? They do have an hour meter on them.
What I hate about the Vibe is the driving position for tall people. The pedals are too close and the steering wheel is too far away.
Scotty!!! Can I get new suspension for my matrix to make it smoother or is it pointless?????
