I’ve got a CAD3 from 1998 that I found thrown out to the curb in the trash. It was dirty, out of adjustment but not one dent or not even a major scratch. Completely disassembled, cleaned, waxed and detailed. Full Shimano 8 speed 105 drivetrain and brakes, WH-R560 wheel set, Modolo Flash stem and handlebars and an UNO seat post. Rides amazingly well and still turns heads. Great video and job well done. Switched it out to replaceable brake pads, and the braking is so much better. The brifters took an overnight soak and shifted like brand new the next morning…that old grease can do a number on it working well. Great video….keep them coming.

Hah I actually have a CAAD3 build coming up soon! That's awesome and what a nice find! Great work on the build, too. I love staying true to the spirit of the original build like this, well done!

@@D2WrenchWorksDIY ….can’t wait, mine literally says “CAD3” and that’s it. It appears to have been made to be an entry level racing machine, it handles amazingly well and loves speed.

They are awesome bikes and it has some huge changes they use today!Check the bottom bracket and see if there is anything. If there is the top left has two seperate letters. First is year and second is month.

NIce! I have one I bought new and still ride. The only thing I have changed on it was the seat and bar tape. Would love to overhaul my shifters though. They have a lot of play when switching gears. Cool vid thanks!

Thanks for the comment George, please take a moment to subscribe if you haven't already! That is so awesome to hear an original owner is still kicking it on their Vintage bike! Clearly you are a man of good taste sir! I can't lie I have little desire to sell this bike unless I get what I want for it, it's so rare to find such a clean/low mile bike and they're a great platform! Don't forget to checkout my shifter repair video to help clean up your shifts: ruclips.net/video/cPJ7g3ZRHHQ/видео.html

what if I wanted to put a mid drive ebike kit on one? :)

Thanks for the comment and please take a moment to subscribe! Sounds like a fun project! I thought hard about building an ebike commuter about 12 years ago but never committed to it. The technology is 1000000x better now, for sure! I bet it would be real quick though!

Hey, I have this exact bike at my folk's place in Fort Myers, FL. I am thinking about replacing the fork this summer. Would you happen to have any suggestions? Will a 1 1/8" fork work with this frame? Do you have any suggestions for a headset?

Thanks for the comment and please take a moment to subscribe, thanks for the support! You will need a 1" fork for this bike, make sure you remove yours and measure from the crown race to the tip of the steerer too! If it's too short it won't fit and if it's shorter but still fits it'll change bar position which isn't always bad but may make you uncomfortable! I'd definitely recommend getting a threadless quill stem to make adjusting the cockpit with threadless stems much easier, once your fork is installed! It's also possible to use a 1" threadless fork buy purchasing a threadless headset to match. This would eliminate the quill stem conversion but you would definitely need an accurate steerer measurement.

Hi buddy, I have a 1996 cannondale r500 and I've got a few questions that maybe you could help with. I just moved to an area with very steep hills and the brakes on the bike are not as good as I would like. the bike has all shimano rsx. Would replacing the brake pads make a big difference or would different calipers be best? also, the bike has Sun brand wheels and I noticed they are cracked around some of the spokes. I have been keeping an eye on the cracks and they don't seem to be growing, but are there any budget wheels that you would recommend? I'm about 190lbs. The front derailleur on mine is messed up so I'll be searching for a shimano claris. Thanks for your videos. I really like your cannondale builds!

Hi there, Thanks for the comment and kind words I appreciate that! Please take a moment to subscribe if you haven't already! The RSX brakes are actually pretty strong but the rubber on the pads get really hard and this is why I like to replace them when they are old. I have links to both types in my description here but you can do New shimano mono-block style brakes you already have or you can upgrade to cartridge style newer brakes use and add some premium brake pads inside like Kool-Stop for example. Definitely plan on replacing those wheels soon, cracks around tensioned spokes is a little scary but Shimano makes an excellent budget wheel that is super durable, checkout the Shimano RS100 clinchers on amazon.
