    You should spend £110 upgrading it with 2nd hand ebay parts.
    Do two 110km rides. One before upgrades and one after. Compare and contrast. Then hang it up on the wall as a trophy.

    Nice bike for the price. The loose handlebar is not a defect, it just needs tightening up. If set up correctly and properly maintained, I bet it would make a good commuter bike for many years. You can upgrade some parts if you don't like them, like the seat.

For 85% of the population of developing countries, even 100 USD is a heavy investment. There’s a reason why Garuda, Asbikes, Skyland, and all these other top selling China-sourced bikes are priced below 200USD.

    That's a nice find for the price, Francis, and if you ever need to true those metal, one-piece wheels, just give the wheel a strategic hit or two with a mallet while the wheel is mounted to the frame or fork. And I am all for this type of vid and you know I am a fan of yours, just please, please don't go down the trail of golly gee wilikers, let's ride this down a mountain trail and see if it holds together, yuk yuk. Those vids by others come across as upper-crust putdowns of everyone who gets a bike like that for a birthday or whatever--and we all start somewhere. My first road bike was a Christmas present in '74 and I loved that bike from the Kaufhof in Frankfurt, it was my start of flying through the streets on a ten-speed. And sure, I was a bit jealous of a two fellow bike-commutting classmates to Frankfurt American High School--one had a Gitane, the other a Motobecane--but I was fine with my Rixie. It was fast enough for me to chase mopeds and it wasn't long before a German friend took me to the Bruglemann bike shop downtown and to this day, over 45 years later, I still have a scale-model track bike made of metal, with rubber o-rings as tires, which I purchased on that visit in '76. And my friend Roland was wide-eyed on that bike shop visit because a German man who had been a track star in the Sixties was in there, too.

    I would recommend to throw everything except the frame assuming the RD hanger is not welded together with the frame, ive worked with tons of these during the pandemic, parts is made from soft metal that you actually bend with bare hands, you could strip the bolts and screws with a torque wrench, plastic from shifters and deraileurs is brittle like egg shells, and would advice to stress test the stem as lot of riders here that have these bikes ended up in hospitals because it tends to break in half on descents and minor road bumps

    My current bike cost about $100, it's start about $40, just unknown 26 steel ATB, as a former shop mechanic im using my experience to make it better little by little, it's work quite ok for commuting, but i find myself less motivated to go out and ride for fun and sport.
    It's quite fun to upgrade it but keep the $bar low, it forced me to search the cheapest but good quality, the most important upgrade for me is part that play big role on safety aspect, like brake, stem+handlebar, and wheel.
    Cheap bike is cool, but for me it's make me more careless and less motivated, i can ride it in the rain and just leave it outside, lazy to wash it.

    If the only issue was slipping handlebars and seat, that kinda on the assembler, perhaps. Granted it’s a POS. I would take it completely to pieces, let us know the build quality regarding grease, cables, tolerances, …. And then let the upgrades begin. Sounds like seat post, stem, drops are prime low hanging fruit. Maybe a Sensah group set? Add a few for gears if the rear wheel supports that.

    • @bonzobanana1
      @bonzobanana1 2 года назад

      People who are buying this bike normally won't be upgrading it surely. However the advert clearly stated it needed professional assembly which wasn't done. These cheap bikes are thrown together in the factory and needs the purchaser to give it final assembly and checks. There are no proprietary parts here. I'd be adding more grease to quite a few areas and making adjustments and making sure all bolts are tight. It's a 4 bolt stem so you need to carefully do up in the right pattern so not to warp it. I'd personally have to make some upgrades though as two small for me. I'd need a longer saddle post I feel and a stem riser. They do a version of the bike with normal spoke 700c wheels and that seems the better option to me. It should lighten the bike somewhat compared to cast wheels.
