@@ultimobici. im no bicycle engineer but I think my comment makes more sense. Better brakes means faster reduction of kinetic energy, which only happens through converting it to heat. Bad brakes convert energy slower, which equates to less heat generated in the same time span.
@@gm.m your physics checks out. Bad (or under spec) breaks over heat in cars because they can’t dissipate the heat fast enough. Making heat is a breaks only job, more heat = more breaking.
Last couple of areas you can reduce weight with: - Lightweight titanium skewers (as Jimmi mentioned) - Lightweight expander plugs? - jagwire or other light housing (those link ones)? - badminton tape as bar tape (adds weight but increases comfort?) - titanium bolts/hardware? - carbon hardware for seatpost rails and clamps?
My Chinese wheels came with titanium skewers. Was years ago, still use them. Super light. Work a charm. Never understood why expensive wheels don't automatically come with those. I have a set of expensive campagnolo wheels with heavy ass skewers.
Those handlebars are perfect for blasting through stop lights and terrifying pedestrians while racing to the coffee shop with your little Campy hat on backwards to order another skinny soy latte.
I know the clincher were/are what you just had laying around but the new Vittoria Corsa n.ext clinchers are 210grams for 28s, 24s, 190gram or so i reckon. So you could save yourselves another 100grams (there about) there just like that for not much more outlay. Dont think there is much more weight to be saved without spending large sums. Good fun vid
The thumbnail reminds me of a bike theft video, and now I’m wondering if bike thief’s are actually just fans of marginal gains who just cut the wrong part? 😂
Jag wire elite link housing and Omni racer skewers are both fairly cheap and will save a decent few grams on it. There’s lighter options on sure but price per gram is pretty good on these. I went for the titanium skewers but omniracer also makes some with a carbon center piece that’s even lighter, I didn’t have the balls to try them.
Reminds me of when I’ve flown with heavy bags and am dropping things here there and everywhere to get under the limit. Stressful. Enjoyed the vid though lads, hope to see y’all soon ❤
Has anyone tried using a road 700 tube in a 29er mountain bike wheel? Francis, can you make this test happen for us? 2:44 I once ran 26" MTB tubes in 650b X 38cc tires. No punctures. But they were slow AF. Butyl too thick.
We typically use either the bike cleaner we have handy or a soapy solution (you might have around for mounting tires, if you're in a shop). It sticks around on the surfaces a little more and catches more carbon. But you should do water/solution regardless as it reduces secondary exposure to anyone else who just happens by your surgery scene.
Ooh. You are almost at 200k subscribers, Francis. Reckon non subs can get you to that by end of September 2022? I remember when 50k was a milestone for you, great to see this channel growing week on week.
Nice Job! Instead of removing g the outlets, swap in the aluminum link style. Rear cassette could be reduced tighter gearing. Are you including pedals?
I run the pirelli p zero smart tube and have mounted and uncounted them a couple times..I have heard more gold about them than the tubalito… all my tubes weight 36g.
Rotor makes a cassette that’s 11-32 and weighs like 150g, and it’s surprisingly not sketch. Probably have put 10000+ miles onto a few of them and no issues
Next video in the series, Jimmy on a superlight bike vs a pro or ex-pro rider wearing a weight vest to equal the same weight as Jimmy and his normal road bike. Who is actually quicker?
Tubeless fluid that dries out and the evaporated water diffusing into the environment can actually make your bike lighter over time, yes! 10g is actually reasonable.
How much does the sausage roll weigh? Could have lost all that weight by skipping breakfast and taking a good dump... It's always going to be easier to remove weight from the rider, just as nearly all the aero gains are there too.
Riding handsfree and reaching for the non existing drops is my new worst nightmare.
Whoa i just felt that fear right through my hands
*boink
Love that you were practically eating the weight savings in sausage rolls there
Since the brakes don’t work well, they won’t generate so much heat that the tubes can’t handle right 😂
Surely the other way round?

these 2 together are always entertaining.
Looking forward to Sausage Rolls on the Sofa becoming a playlist series
I spat my coffee out at the very quick clip of the sausage roll crumbs being vacuumed 🤣🤣

always good when Jimmy is in a video
No screws... Glue everything. It's lightweight and secure
titanium bolt lil bro
Those handlebars are perfect for blasting through stop lights and terrifying pedestrians while racing to the coffee shop with your little Campy hat on backwards to order another skinny soy latte.
i can picture Jimmi doing that to be fair
Jimmi’s face… the moment of abject fear when he turns on the angle grinder… “keep away from the power tools” 😂
I do remember the discussion about this bike on the Attacus Shop couch. I was so happy when you cut the seat post . 😂
Awesome RUclips-duo. Francis and Jimmy. Love it!!
I LOVE THIS, such a serious video that gradually turns crazy.
That's impressive!
I do have some of those brakes ready to go on my roadbike which I'm confident will never go on based on these videos
Veggie Greggs sausage roll gents? ATTACUS ATTACK BIKE!
Good fun day again at the office / workshop 😅👍have a good weekend gents !
Probably my favourite video 📹 😍 well done 👏
Nice one. You should seal the carbon cuts with something like superglue to protect it
i love the transtiion music where you show what's the current weight. Makes it sound like a chinese ninja movie
What a good time boys! Thank you 🙏 for doing a light rim brake build! So tired of the disc brake strangle hold on RUclips 🤙🤣
I cant wait to see how this all turns out
Loved the editing. Makes the 430g saving epic. Looking forward on your ride out

Sounds like a collab with rides of japan is needed :-)
I been using the tubolito for ages in a 32mm tyre and havent had a flat since. They been really awesome.
Hoovering the Gregg's crumbs off the t-shirt, whilst in a carbon dust ☁️ 😂
The thumbnail reminds me of a bike theft video, and now I’m wondering if bike thief’s are actually just fans of marginal gains who just cut the wrong part? 😂
You two cheered my day up considerably!!!
francis your videos are every time going better and better!!
best video ever
Thanks Francis.....be careful with inhaling carbon .

Francis giving the shoulders make me laught so hard 😂😂😂😂😂😂
Loving this series 😍
Surely the next ep will be drilling some part off🤔
Love your vids mate
Try some PowerCordz nylon brake and gear cables, get some Drillium on the cranks and saddle then push on towards 5kg 👍
Pat and mat at it again!
Eeh lad when I were young we used fabric bar tape. A modicum of grip, but no cushioning at all.
Get some cheap titanium quick release screwers !! 100g to normal ones for like 10£
I must say your thumbnail game has been in point lately 👍🏻.
thank you Adam!
Once again great video. But Jimmi, I think Francis is trying to seriously injure you! 🤦♂️
Good bit of weight savings still available by switching tire's again. Tan wall GP5000k 25mm weigh in at 215g.
A good hill climb bike 😁
Guys, the Greggs section should be a thing!! 😂
Has anyone tried using a road 700 tube in a 29er mountain bike wheel? Francis, can you make this test happen for us? 2:44

absolutely yes
If you cut carbon just spray water on it. So it won't fly in the air!

thanks for your continued support chris !
Time to break out the sand paper and remove any paint while your there 😂
Where is the lightening holes in the levers?
Really enjoy these kind of videos. I would love to do this myself more often. But I lack space to store all the parts.. (And money to get them)
Nice Job! Instead of removing g the outlets, swap in the aluminum link style. Rear cassette could be reduced tighter gearing. Are you including pedals?
Remove the rubber hoods on the STIs!
I run the pirelli p zero smart tube and have mounted and uncounted them a couple times..I have heard more gold about them than the tubalito… all my tubes weight 36g.
I hate autocorrect
Jimmy, angle grinder? couldn't have clicked any faster. I wonder how many fingers he'll have left by the end of the video.
he’s banned from using it
😂😂😂😂😂
The legal requirement is a front brake, hill climb rules vary but you could probably remove the rear brake as well.
Jimmi is the best……so funny
My man 🙌🏼🙌🏼
Weigh your tires in the store. Same brand, same model, same size can vary quite a bit. GCPerformance, a bike shop, has a video about this.
Make Jimmi lighter with angle grinder.
You can still rotate the crank with one leg, right??
😁
But when will we see Jimmi riding it? And will there be an ambulance standing by? :D
7:46 Where can I find that vacuum cleaner?
Rotor makes a cassette that’s 11-32 and weighs like 150g, and it’s surprisingly not sketch. Probably have put 10000+ miles onto a few of them and no issues
8:15 nice
AH a weigh in!
How my normie, Brompton ridin' butt read this alert on my phone, half-asleep:
"Ohhh! Wow! Francis Cade is building a lighter out of a bike for Jimmi."
You shouldn't cut carbon dry and without breathing protection. The dust is really really bad for the lungs.
keep going guys, loving this, or find some other peoples lighter bikes how light can you go?
I'm concerned about Krilin's health.
Just scrape the dirt off the old groupset, boom, 100g saved
Sand the frame next !!
You could make it a fixie then you can get rid of the shifters and rear brakes, and fit a really short flat bar, should get it near to 5kg.
Use one of those cyclecross bar top brake levers, they're well light.
STRUGGLE HILL CLIMB KLAXON 🐮🛎🔥
the perfect final phrase.....
Next video in the series, Jimmy on a superlight bike vs a pro or ex-pro rider wearing a weight vest to equal the same weight as Jimmy and his normal road bike. Who is actually quicker?
Pro.
How much weight savings if Jimmi shaved? It would be an aero gain and weight savings. I'm of course referring to back hair.
great video 😆
For part 2 you guys will need to start compromising rideability... LOL
Round 2!
ZTTO Ult 12s cassete is bad - on setting I have much problem with switching irregularity.
How much did that Greggs sausage roll weigh???
When do you start removing parts of Jimmy?
good point
you don’t need ears for cycling
@@Cade_Media they're not Aero ... so .. not useful
I assume too insignificant amount of weight saved by inflating the tyres with nitrogen?
Garry Robson, old friend of your Ma & Pa 👍
Why everyone wanting to cut parts off of me. 😅😅😅😅
😁😁😁😁
Get some Titanium skewers and bolts mate
You've utterly destroyed the bike permanently to save a totally meaningless ~500g. This sounds about right for weight weenieism.
Lmao fr
Try some string spokes
Awesome 👏🏼
Nice video format, next wish:light mtb
Hehe what could possibly go wrong😂😂 we didn’t see the bars after they were cut
Tubeless fluid that dries out and the evaporated water diffusing into the environment can actually make your bike lighter over time, yes! 10g is actually reasonable.
Are the Ali Express TPU inner tubes any good? Came across them last week and thought you would be the man to ask.
I am running them (ridenow) in 30mm/32mm GP5000 for 400-500km for now a no problem. They keep the pressure better than my butyl ones.
Haven’t tried them but heard good things
I reckon those sausage rolls weighed more than the total weight save. What is next, drilling holes? How much do the wheels weigh?
this is very nice I would want to race this uphill
and definitely walk back down..
Aluminum cable housing
Surely spokes are overrated right? Xx
Get the Pirelli pzero TT tyres fitted. Who cares about puncture protection anyway?
How much does the sausage roll weigh? Could have lost all that weight by skipping breakfast and taking a good dump... It's always going to be easier to remove weight from the rider, just as nearly all the aero gains are there too.
You could have removed some gears and make it a 3 gears bike?
Oh and make the gear lever knee or ass operated, so you have less cables...
Maximum effort!!!
