    The Viscount is tempting. I had one in college that was cursed. It was stolen (borrowed) by someone going home, probably after a night of drinking. I reported it, but the culprit returned it with a note admonishing me to lock it. Fast forward to after college, I upgraded it with a Shimano 600 group and wheels from Lickton's. Had it a week or two when it was stolen, this time gone forever.

    one of my favorite looking bikes of the 80s was the Vitus/Mavic gruppo-Modolo brakeset (charcoal calipers+levers) as used by Sean Kelly's Skil team and the Luis Herrera's CafedeColumbia team. Or the Carbon Alan/Mavic-Modolo combo used by the Spanish Teka team. Those charcoal calipers/levers/white brake hoods stood out on those brushed alumnimum framesets.

    Nice video and suggest a corresponding list of the bikes and prices. For sure, shipping is a PIA and lots of work to carefully pack and expensive. Also lots of work to detail sales with maker, model, dates and bits but really necessary to attact potential buyers. Ofcourse with the video and local buyers, they can personally inspect the build and bits but they need to watch the video to see what your selling. Good luck with the sales!

    I have that exact Lavender/Lilac Lotus. Just picked it up a few days ago for a full resto myself. John you mentioned briefly, "there's no guarantee of future high income" which is a realistic mindset to have. Like you said in the video of the collection you revently picked up "its all just stuff". But it gave me an idea; it would be cool for you to make a video of what would be the top 5 bikes you would keep if you had to let go of your collection for whatever reason. Anyway, Hoping they all go to a good home & most importantly, ridden! 👍

      @@chrismoore-keish7476 Im not sure if I'm the best person to ask. I have the one bike that has them and I haven't ridden it. Its truly NOS. I set up 3 or 4 sets when I worked in a shop in the 80s. I tested those bikes and I have to rely on my memory. If I recall they worked fine but I think I remember that they didn't modulate well. The customer would come back and ask us to make adjustments. I can't say I was well educated to improve the performance of the brakes. I'll be honest. I DONT Care how vintage stuff performs. I really don't. It's like when someone buys a 1957 Chevrolet BelAir and complains about how it handles! LOL. Sorry I'm not so helpful on your question.

    • @chrismoore-keish7476
      @chrismoore-keish7476 3 месяца назад

      John, actually you are really helpful. Neither of the bikes I have are intended to be wall hangers. I want to ride them and the Super Record brake calipers (aren't the best compared to the Shimano 105's on my Cannondale CAAD 10) have fair stopping power for a 40+ year old breaks. Keep making great video content and share your passion, it is infectious. Cheers, Chris

    • @SunLam
      @SunLam Месяц назад

      @chrismoore-keish7476 - No way! I have a Pinarello Treviso and Alan Super Record that i still ride as well. I have wondered about the Campagnolo brake replacement pads available today and if they are less effective if I could compare them to fresh pads from the 80s. But that would be impossible to do of course. I do recall as a teenager that the Campy brakes where great and i didn't question them. I have thought of trying compatible pads from Kool Stop to see if that would make a difference.

    The Atala is the Competizione model, which was the next model down from the Professional that year. I believe the frames of both models were essentially the same, right down to the geometry. The seat pin was originally just an aluminum tube with a standard saddle clamp, which is no doubt why the Laprade is on there. It's rare to see one this original. The three divots in the top of the saddle are due to the fact that it's essentially a plastic Unicanitor with a thin leather covering stretched over it. The plastic saddle has the three holes, and I've noticed them showing in the leather covering on every one of these saddles I've ever seen--even when they were brand new. I believe the original saddle would have been a full-leather model, and all the other Competiziones I have seen had Universal 61 centerpulls, but this was during the Bike Boom and substitutions were quite common. The shift levers are Valentinos, while the derailleurs are Nuovo Record, but the previous year the bike came with the Gran Tourismo boat anchor, so it's not surprising to see the mismatch.

    That makes zero sense-No shipping - but Four hours of driving time - cost - time effort- doesn’t pencil out .. ( so it must be “ hands on , I’ll buy it … correct ???.. cash is easy- , to have no problems with people saying there’s a mark ???

      @@reserva120 I'll only drive the 4 hours for the more expensive bikes. Selling bicycles are a hassle. I'm not in a hurry to sell them. I don't have to sell them. Slow and easy is better than fast and a pain in the butt LOL

    Damn some great prices I must say! What do you think a "good" condition Lotus Super Pro Aero would go for these days? Such a rare bike it's hard to understand valuation of it.

    Very, very hard to watch John.
    The camera moves around so fast, zooms in & out etc. that I can't focus in on anything before it's gone.
    Pity that I had to cut out at 5.45 as I would have liked to have seen it.

      The Illinois economy is the 20th largest economy in the world. It's ranked 5th among states in the US. Those are no small potato numbers. Sure, taxes are high, but we get many benefits that citizens of low tax 😢states don't get.
      Overall, Chicago is a phenomenal economic engine. That's why the Chicago area is a great place to live.
