Spending the Day in Surprising Den Bosch ('s-Hertogenbosch)
According to this American couple, it’s probably better not to move to the Netherlands, because of certain obstacles you will face. Well, emigration in itself is a very, very hard enterprise and never be taken lightly. No matter where you come from or going to. About a holiday destination we might think: “oh, it’s so beautiful here; I’m bored back home, so I’m gonna live here”. But it’s not that easy. After the honeymoon you will sober up real quick!
1 is only logical, you wouldnt walk on the car lane would you? Being late is also cause you made an appointment, which is a deal, and a deal is a deal (afspraak maakt schuld in dutch)
Yoy are right, there is no breakfastculture here in the Netherlands. That's to say: not when you want to have breakfast outside your house. Most people do take breakfast, but they do that at home, before they go outside. Yoghurt or kwark with fruits and granola, or just of copple of sneetjes brood met hagelslag, kaas or pindakaas. And of course you take a glass of milk, or a cup of coffee or tea. In the weekends, people have a more luxury breakfast at home, with broodjes, croissants and jus d'orange. So yeah, there is a breakfastculture here... but not as you can see outside...
Hmmm, was the challenge fatal? Travis??
The best thing to eat to get rid of the heat in your mouth is just plain bread.
If you think the pace of living in the Netherlands is much slower than in the USA, wait till you visit Italy or France. They have midday breaks for 2 houres!!!
There is a difference between immigrants. You have the legal ones (they are OK) and asielzoekers (they are not all OK) that are the ones the Dutch dislike. For the low salaries. In the US the prices for everything is without faxes you must add them. In the netherlands taxes are included in the price.
In Nijmegen komt de 4-daagse. De 3de week in juli. Dat is een groot evenement met een week zomerfeesten. Veel te zien!
I recommend Dordrecht for a city trip. The oldest city of South and North Holland.
I like your hair colours 🤌🏻👍🏻
Wij willen jullie hier ook niet hebben!
I grew up in Wassenaar. So first and foremost, Wassenaar is not a city, it's a village.
Sorry, but a lot of those things would make everybody mad. Including you two. And also, I get pissed about the Tikkie annoyance. Because first, it's a generalisation and not all true. But foremost it's hypocritical coming from a country where it's more and more normal to send parents a Venmo for the costs of a f*cking playdate.
Where are you guys?? I hope everything is ok, pls give some news
this video was not needed, of course you will get all of those problems if you move to a difrant culture area. (cultuur gebieden)
nobody would know you are not Dutch till you talk. and everybody in every country always says the same things. you are not looked at as different, you feel different.
Cytiezenship: you can have more than one cytiezenship.
Gaaf man!
The best thing you can do is in Zoetermeer, is get the hell out to the next city, ROFL.
Ridiculous 13k for having your baby. The most natural thing is woman having babies. Woman have been giving birth for ages. Laying in a hospital bed is only the convenience for the doctors. With your legs up in the air and your spine up in the air you have to push against gravity. This is not how you should give birth.
Not bacon....but 'ontbijtspek'! :-)
Should Americans move to the Netherlands. I would say no but also depends on who you are and for what reason. One thing the netherlands is already overpopulated and the other thing, this country is not and should not become an immigrant country for people outside the continent like the us.
What a city. I will visit it for sure
Gouda Cheese- is very valuable for its Vitamin K2. I always have some in my refrigerator.
Please leave your judgmental, over-the-top,preachy, far-left, "liberal" politics and opinions at home. We've seen where it lead to in the USA.
People calling the country Holland instead of the Netherlands. We're not all from Holland!
Be very careful with 🌶️ crisps; on e boy died as a reaction to that product!
Can i invite you guys to a cup of coffee?😀
Think you nailed most of the good reasons not to move to NL and in particular, the biggest one being the lack of space and housing.
Gewoon genieten
I think you forget the crucial point that the image of a country is never nuanced. The Netherlands is seen as a progressive country because they are leaders in, among other things, eutenasia, gay marriage, tolerance of drugs and prostitution. This does not mean that there are only progressive parties or citizens. That works the same in the US, where they want to convey that it is the country of opertunism, country of freedom and democracy. There are few Western countries that are as undemocratic as the American system. And you could call the quality of opportunity in the US at least a joke. The Netherlands is always referred to as the Randstad and the outskirts as the countryside, but this is not entirely true. You have a second urban area in the Netherlands, namely Brabantstad or the Brabant row of cities. More than 2 million people live in the urban area in Brabant. The largest cities in this area are Eindhoven, Tilburg, Breda, 's-Hertogenbosch and Helmond.
Jullie hebben ons bevrijd en vonden ons ook vreemd maar jullie zijn top mensen ik heb zelf amerikaanse geboorte namen ik genoemd na de jf Kennedy dus voor mijn zijn jullie mijn familie ❤
As a Dutch man, let me tell you. Fuck cheese. I hate it, its glorified spoiled milk. Having said that. ‘Gouda’ cheese isnt even from Gouda. Originally it was, but the person who created it forgot to patent it and by the time he wanted to he was too late. So now ‘gouda’ cheese gets made everywhere and the quality differs very much. It has absolutely nothing to do with Gouda except for the name
Surprised you didn't tackle the Dutch wc. Not surprising however from people that use the euphamism restroom for tiolet.
Maybe you should compare living in The Netherlands with living in a city like New York. My cousin lived in the middle of up town New York. She had a very tiny apartment for over $2400, and even had a room mate to cut the costs despite having a good job. I’m sorry you get to meet people who are narrow minded and tell you to go home. I guess they got their own problems and blame it onto outsiders. You get idiots everywhere.
We used to have a charming train station, but it got torn down around 1990, I think. It's a shame but I also understand that they had to scale up and that it wasn't enough anymore.
Partly because of expats my children are not able to find a house in the Netherlands. They are 24 and 25 now. They cannot afford to buy a house in the Netherlands, because the prices are crazy. Why do you think it is oke to move here from the United States and live here? Because we have better health insurance? More vacation days? All these things my parents and their parents fought for. Do you think you just can come here and profit from this? Please stay in the US and try to fix your own country.
It's the town where I live. It is new, dull, but a good place for living. You only visited one of the parks we have here. There are far more and that's why I like it here. You may want to know Zoetermees was the best cycling town of the country in 2023, which was well deserved into my opinion.
About the Zwarte Piet discussion: I don't think wanting to know more will annoy anyone really. It's about shoving your "learned wisdom" down the other's throat without knowing the complete story. Many foreigners get on their high horse without the back story and context. The traditional form is busy changing to accommodate our ever evolving culture but first and foremost, it's not and also never was intended to be hurtful. It's basically a Dutch-kids-Santa style celebration. The minds of children don't "go there" and the characters have nothing to do with reality of normal life. After 33+ years here I have a pretty good idea of what I'm talking about.
I think you would love to visit the Wadden eilanden and the hills in Limburg and places like Vierhouten Nunspeet heathland de Veluwe. great for a biking weekend
The main problem right now, is that there is a unlimited influx of migrants. And all these people have be taken care of in the form of housing, food, livingspace, and also to give them an allowance that they can spend for whatever they choose. And this is all being done at the expense of the Dutch taxpayer, An increasing number of working Dutch can't pay the cost of living anymore, while the migrants get everything free of charge.
Your living in Delft, tray eeting in " restaurant de Mol" especially vr and zat special dinners it is all reel old Dutch food even the beer is old . Think it over.
You can tell that you came to the Netherlands without properly thinking it through. You only have experience on the west side of the country, have to look beyond that and compare that to Texas. That would be like I would migrate to New York City and then assume that the whole of the US is like that. New York is crowded and expensive, New Yorkers are unfriendly and the city is dirty, especially compared to the Netherlands. In terms of salary, your comparison is nonsense. Living costs are totally different, social security is so much better, including employee protection etc. In terms of progressiveness I find it quite funny you mention that, coming from a country where basic rights like abortion are being denied. In general, the Netherlands is quite a bit more progressive compared to the US. In terms of culture you may want to take into account that the Dutch culture roughly is a 1.500 years older than the US. There is no 24/7 economy and most Dutch are quite happy about that. If you really dislike all the above, I seriously wonder why you came here in the first place. Then again, if you would have picked France or Italy, your experiences would be quite different.
What about cityzenship/New couple loan for new place and marriage?
Yes, as a Dutch person I have had expat friends, but at some point they always leave so you also need to make new friends, which is hard. That's why we do not invest too much in those relationships. Sorry. I hear a lot of complaints on that part, but this is the reason and you need to learn to acknowledge that point of view. Besides, we distinguish hugely between friends and acquaintances. As an expat, you need to keep dat in mind.
About the salary part… how is the cost of living in the Netherlands 🇳🇱 compared to the U.S. 🇺🇸? Because that could also set off the difference in salary.
Zwarte Piet never was a problem until around 2000-2010 when some people started to complain about the word Zwarte Piet. And that movement grew a lot.
Zwart Piet has "never" been a problem?? Really?!! 🙀
if this is your home now then learn bloody dutch !!!! or do go home !!
They think dutch food is bitterbal, tmpouce and stroopwafel. Fools and horses
