As a born and bred Leidenaar I take too many things for granted. Leiden through the eyes of an expat makes me aware I’m privileged to live in such a beautiful city with its rich history. Thanks for sharing! BTW, the intersection at the Korevaarstraat is really dangerous. It’s the result of municipal policy to mix slow traffic (pedestrians, cyclists) with high-speed traffic in the same zone.
Agreed. Borin Leiderdorp, moved to Leiden when I was three, lived there for six years. Returned to work there for five years in de Schouwburg. Leiden has a special place in my heart for sure.❤
Both the Garenmarktplein and the Hooglandse Kerkgracht used to be full of parked cars. Much better these days. The inside of the Hooglandse kerk is a very serene space. High, light... hard to describe, has to be experienced. The only other time I felt that was in the Santa Maria del Mar in Barcelona.
Thank you for the tour in Leiden. Ik love watching your videos. You also showed the Van der Werffpark. Did you know we owe this park to a disaster? In 1807 a ship loaded with 37 tons of gunpowder, bound for Delft, exploded in Leiden. This is how the Vander Werffpark came into existance. I wish you all the best!!!!
Now I feel ashamed. Whenever I see someone filming, Im like “dude, the world is out here, not on your phone”, yet here I am watching this amazing video. 😊❤
It’s a double-edged sword. We sometimes feel like we’re not fully present in the moment when we’re filming, but on the other hand, we’re so happy to share with others.
Although the city has changed a lot (over the 60+ years that I've been around) I still love walking and cycling through Leiden. Next best thing: watching a video-walk like yours on RUclips... 🙂👍
You just made me want to visit Leiden ... again. I saw streets and bridges i didn't know existed. What a beautiful city. Thank you Travis, it's so interesting to see the Netherlands through your expat eyes... love it.
...through your immigrant eyes ....fyi. Just like ALL other newcomers are migrants or immigrants , depending on their perspectives. Expat is for expediency and non committance.
Love the city walking videos! If you visit other towns or contrysides in The Netherlands, take us with you. Thank you Travis :-) I suggest the beautiful town of Haarlem at some stage...my birthplace :-)
Ty so much that you've taken the time to post even though Tracy is still in the US! Hope life isn't too lonely. Good thing your saucy (get it?🤭) doggy is with ya! I'd be interested in seeing a top 10 of favorite sites at the end of the year. As in, the entire country, but perhaps you've already connected so much to Leiden that all of your favorites are right there.🥰Hope you had a good time returning to your former stomping-grounds!
This video feels like a content palate cleanser (don't worry, I mean that in the nicest way). It's a WONDERFUL Zen-like experience before we get all the amazing content you two have coming! Looking forward to what's next.
Hi!! I Live now in The Haque, but i am on a waitinglist for Centraal wonen in de Stadsoase in Leiden. Ifeel much for moving to Leiden. I studied Archeology there, so I know the city. It is is a nice city.
So much fun to see this! I used to live on de Hooglandse Kerkgracht. (Your favorite). But there were no trees then, because of the market. Lots of fruits and vegetables were sold on Saturdays. Later I moved to the Haarlemmerstraat. Anyway I moved to ‘t Gooi in 1996. So much has changed since then. So many horeca and so many terrassen. I think that must be because of the no smoking inside policy. Now the uitbaters (what shamma call it?) need to have a terras where people can smoke, I think.
Unfortunately, you skipped the absolute most beautiful part of the Old Town; the Pieterskwartier, including Rapenburg, The Hortus, and the 5e Binnenvestgracht. Check it out, I walk through there almost daily.
Hi there, Thanks for the informative videos. i watched an older video of yours some time ago about a park with a tiny secret door/garden at the bottom of a tree. Would you mind letting me know where this tiny place is? I don't seem to be able to find the video about it. Thanks in advance, Judit
Hi Judit! It was part of our 7 Culture Shocks video. The tiny door is on a tree on the southeast side of the singelpark in Leiden. Hope this helps! Thank you so much for watching.
@@TAndTGoDutch Thank you so much for your uber-fast reply:). I cannot wait to find Elmer's tiny door in person. Thank you for including this little gem in your vlog. Kindly, Judit
Most beautiful town on the face of the earth. Small remark: tilt the camera a bit downward when filming. Dutch skies are way less interesting than Dutch sidewalks. It affects the lighting of the video in anegative way as well.
You should put a disclaimer with your comment ''This intersection always feels risky'' because let me tell you, that intersection is like 99% more safe than pretty much all of the world haha. Even if Leiden isn't the best city, regarding mobility. It's still the Netherlands, even the worst rated cities (not saying this is one of those) are better than most of any other city in the world. But then again, that's just the dutch mobility system being top notch.

I agree! About the seeing how privileged we are.

Ah beautiful Leiden. Grew up there for six years, worked there for five years in the oldest, and most beautifel theater in the Netherlands.❤
How lovely and peaceful! There is so much walking room, and so little car traffic

Hartebrug kerk, or 'Coeliekerk', because of the inscription ending in 'Porta Coeli' on the big lintel above the entrance.

Beautiful! Lovely walk-through.
Nice walk through Leiden 👍😊
Great, never been to Leiden before but now i got a good impression of how it looks like over there.
Nice vlog T without T, Leiden is beautifull!
Mooi hoor ! Thank you for making this one. 🙏

Nice tour..
Nice tour ... where was Tobasco? This city is so reminiscent of Amsterdam I think

13:30 my sister had an American boyfriend who, when he saw this, said “cool! Van Halen.” 😂
Thank you for taking us on your walk with you, Travis!! It was cool to hear the surrounding sounds. What a beautiful city you and Tracey live in!😊

hooglandse kerkgracht is zo een mooi stukje leiden
Nu zeker. I remember when it was more of a parking lot. It has improved quite a bit.
How different from Amsterdam.
At about 6.40: hear those jackdawsmaking a racket! As smart as 7 year olds, according to some scientists.

No subtitles
