Hope you are planning on visiting my home city of Nijmegen and sharing your thoughts on it with all of us. It is a beautiful place to visit and learn about the history of this 2000 years old city. Hopefully I'll see you there soon.
Yet another lovely video! My husband actually works inside the Latijnse School where Rembrandt attended as a tiny tot back in the day. It's now an office building and is absolutely gorgeous on the inside. Your tour was really great but clearly cut short as it missed my favorite stop in Leiden - Het Warenhuis Kringloop! XD
You guys did better. ChatGPT did suggest some of the main averaged out topics but didn't pick anything quirky outside of the mainstream options Leiden has to offer! It's fun to watch you guys explore my old University city. I went to medical School in Leiden - a large part of the internships were done in the LUMC hospital which used to look quite different back then - the main building was there but there were a lot of old style hospital buildings dotted around. Some still exist on the fringes of what used to be the big hospital terrain. After graduating I lived very near the University Library opposite the canal on the back. But moved away to the countryside in 2009. Been coming back a ton as my brother still lives in Leiden. I went to the US a lot myself - almost ended up working and living in St.Louis MO permanently but after 9/11 decided that my place in this world would be the Netherlands. Keep making these videos of yours. Thoroughly enjoy your perspective on things.
Lakenhal Musem... What a great find! When we visited Leiden last September I got the impression that it was a textile museum so we skipped it. And we were staying just around the corner and could have visited any time. If we ever get back to Leiden it will be at the top of the list to visit.
Nice - I really liked your tour of Museum de Lakenhal. I'll have to go check it out but am waiting for the weather to improve, though...brrr. My best Genever story is through my small collection of KLM huisjes - mini-houses - which KLM began giving as gifts that are filled with Genever to passengers as an incentive to continue flying the Royal Dutch Airlines. This is what I quickly Googled: "Back in 1952, KLM began giving its first-class passengers a gift of a miniature Delft Blue pottery house portraying a historically or architecturally significant Dutch building."
Seeing this vid with a couple of friends (all Dutch) and no one ever heard of this museum including me. (Some paintings we put on hold and are sooo beautiful) It takes new countrymen to show history of our forefathers that we became oblivious of.... Thank you, you are one of a kind. 🌹
A nice idea for another(sunny) saturday is to do the “hofjeswandeling” and discover some real hidden gems in Leiden, I lived there for over 20 years and still was amazed by them.
Excellent videos on Leiden! I enjoyed part 1 but part 2 is my favorite. I'm glad you included De Burch and the Lakenhal Museum in your video. Leiden is now on our list to see next time my husband and I visit Netherlands, and we may stay there as a home base while there too. Thanks!
De Gevangenpoort in Den Haag is also very interesting! It's a medieval prison which has a interesting history. It also displays ancient torture devices.....
The main city for jenever in the Netherlands is Schiedam (next to Rotterdam), which has a long history of jenever distilling. It’s where Kettle One is made. You can visit the Nolet distillery where it’s made and there is also the Jenever Museum as well as the tallest (classic) windmills in the world which milled the grain used to make it, one of which is open as a museum.
Me, as "Leidenaar" love to see your videos! Have you ever considered walking the "Singelpark"? I'm sure you can make a nice video from that walk as well. Looking foreward to see that!
One of my favorite things to do on a Saturday in Leiden is to walk the Haarlemmerstraat. And yes, Leiden has a lot of museums... So it's hard to make a choice. De burcht however is a must do.
Hi Guys! Love this video and you should to more of these types of videos. Maybe the next one is Den Haag, Alkmaar, Apeldoorn, Zwolle, Deventer or many of the great cities that we have in Netherlands.
Hi Valery! We do have one on Den Haag already, and are working our way through haha. Alkmaar is on our list in the near future. Thank you so much for your feedback, we can’t wait to visit more beautiful cities!
Definitely worth a visit! Are you doing guided tours for tourists? I'm sure Leiden City Marketing could use people like you. This place might interest you: the Rutte Distillery in Dordrecht. They have been making gins, genevers and liqueurs since 1872. Combine a city walk through the historic centre together with a visit to one of the best gin and jenever distilleries in the world.
I like the idea of a viewers' suggestions part 3, though 😍 Obviously curate which ones you are and aren't going to do (also based on what you've already done) but it might be a nice way to get some new things to see and involve the community :)
Living the good life! I love it ❤ And, perhaps a somewhat impertinent or superficial observation, you guys are starting to look more-for lack of a better qualification-‘dutch’!
So I know where our next city trip is going to. So if you can recomend a B&B or nice hotel let me know. By the way Trevor your mother and I have something in commen, I am a quilter too ( just a beginner though) . But whit the prices you mentiond I don't think I'll be bying some fabric at the lakenhal very soon.
Any AI is as strong as the people that programs the initial machine. And that means it will always lack the Human component and complexity. Not going to bother with a calculator to plan an itinerary what to see. I like to be surprised, a sound, a sight, an object, in fact a feeling.
Thanks for watching part two of this video🎉❤

Always a joy to see you two immerse yourselves in Dutch life, culture and history as new “Dutchies”. 👍🏻
Thank you so much for your kindness!
T and T: 1 - ChatGPT: 0. You can plan it much better yourself. Great video. ❤❤❤
Thank you, Michel!

We will have to check the kringloop out! Thanks for the suggestion!
Your tour much better than AI. Loved the museum, castle and other sites.
Thank you so much, Connie!

My grandpa used to have those from business travel and my brother and I got to keep them. Lovely memories!
Those houses are so charming!
I have recently discovered your channel and love it! I am also a fellow expat living in Leiden, great video 😍
Aww, thank you so much! Leiden is awesome. Maybe we’ll see you around town! ❤️

Aww, thank you so much for taking the time to comment. It would be a perfect “home base!”

Great Vlog! Lovely places
Thank you, Nitzan!
I love that you went to Lakenhal! My favourite museum in Leiden. 😍
It’s easy to see why. So lovely!
Me, as "Leidenaar" love to see your videos! Have you ever considered walking the "Singelpark"? I'm sure you can make a nice video from that walk as well. Looking foreward to see that!
Yes! We actually do have a video where we highlight the Singelpark, it’s our 7 Culture Shocks vlog. We love the Singelpark!
You guys did better than ChatGPT! I gotta check out that jenever bar🙌🏾
Thank you so much! The jeneverhuis is a must. ❤️
I absolutely loved this video more !👍🏻👍🏽👍🏿
Thank you so much, René!

Groningen 💚💚💚
Leiden indeed is a great city to live in, even better than Amsterdam to my opinion 😉
Love your video’s!
Do you already have a ‘museum jaarkaart’?
Oh yes! Ours is very well-loved. Thanks for watching!

That would be a dream job! Ooh, we’ll add that to the list. Thank you!
Just subscribed and 197 no of view love from India
Thank you so much!
Two Americans in Leiden and no visiting of the Leiden American Pilgrim Museum? This video needs a part 3, covering viewers' suggestions! ;)
So many choices, not enough time! We talked about the pilgrim connection a little bit over a year ago. Thanks for your suggestion!
I like the idea of a viewers' suggestions part 3, though 😍 Obviously curate which ones you are and aren't going to do (also based on what you've already done) but it might be a nice way to get some new things to see and involve the community :)
Please will you consider visiting The Hague and especially Panorama Mesdag? Dutch people in the know, please no spoilers
Panorama Mesdag is indeed quite the experience! Do NOT google it beyond the address and opening times - just go! It's special :)
We’ve done a video on The Hague, but haven’t visited the Panorama Mesdag. Thanks for the suggestion!
Living the good life! I love it ❤ And, perhaps a somewhat impertinent or superficial observation, you guys are starting to look more-for lack of a better qualification-‘dutch’!

Very close to Rembrandtplein is Boutique Hotel D'Oude Morsch. It looks very charming, is highly rated, and is right next to one of the old city gates!
@@TAndTGoDutch That is a nice hotel :) Good friends of mine had their wedding night there and they loved it.
Leiden...buy the stroopwafels, go visit the garden the hortus botanicus, and the tropen museum, and the observatory.

We think that explanation is spot on. Thank you so much for sharing your perspective.
Did you See the TRAIN MUSEUM
That’s in Utrecht. We do have a video on that, though.
The subtitle goes to fast
Sorry about that!
