Leiden was quite a poor city in the later 18th and 19th century though, so there was hardly any expansion. However, sometimes older buildings received new façades so what looks like a 19th century house can hide a 17th or 18th century interior. Conversely, sometimes houses got built in a "historicizing" style that makes them look much older than they actually are. It can all be quite deceptive.
Lucky people who live in this seemingly quiet town - I wish you put what time of day this was and if it was a weekday or weekend to better get some perspective on what it’s like, eg; is this a normal weekday morning or afternoon?
