Leiden is a lovely place to stay and a smaller, quieter alternative to Amsterdam. Lots to see and do and the fruit and veg stalls in the market on a Saturday are amazing!

I am so thrilled to run across this video. My great grandfather is the Rev. John Robinson who is memorialized on the many plaques you showed on Pieterskerk (St. Peter's Church) where he is buried. He is considered to be the Pastor to the Pilgrims. He is memorialized in a painting that hangs in the Capitol Rotunda in Washington. The painting depicts him and the Pilgrims on the ship ready to depart for America in 1620. Unfortunately he died in Holland in1625 and never lived to see America but his widow and son came in 1629. I visited Leiden and his grave inside the church. Again Thanks. I loved the city where he was also a University Professor. I also found local people who clearly remember the story of him.

In the summer more people are eating and drinking outside but Leiden attracts very few visitors. It is never very busy. In July the sun sets at approximately 22:00, that gives a very different vibe.
Yes, in the summer for sure lol. I'm a bit older and the cold weather just makes me achy..

A video that is really interesting- this is exceptional even by your high standards. I went to Amsterdam on Tuesday 18 Dec for a day trip and the weather was not as bad as you had here- there certainly was no snow on the ground.

I was in Leiden in June, I loved the poem by Adonis in one of the walls celebrating 400 years of Arabic studies at the university of Leiden. Pablo Neruda is up there too. The botanical garden were cool too.

Thank you for visiting the city I grew up in. Never expected that to happen. I'd suggest you to visit some of the other museums Leiden has to offer, like: De Lakenhal, Volkenkunde, Van Oudheden, Boerhaave. Leiden has a rich historical past. Thank you Gabriel!

Western part of South Holland proper (Rotterdam, The Hague, Leiden) is spectacular for cycle tours. If you choose your routes carefully you can have very five or six very varied land- and cityscapes in a tour of fifty or seventy kilometers.
Just got back from a short trip to Leiden, I was inspired to go by Gabriel's video. It is an amazing city to walk around.

it is interesting to see the cold weather there and not to have to feel it. I once visited the " museum van oudheden" There was an excellent Egyptian exhibition with the theme of mummies . All that lovely confectionary at the Christmas market and the architectural Dutch buildings .
I was showing my parents the city that same day! Pity you missed the Burgt (an old fortress one street over from the Christmas market ) but thank you for showing Leiden so Nicely.

Hu Gabriel, The trip to the Netherlands was a really quick and seem like a lot of fun. The summers have to be very different there much easier to walk around but it didn't seem to chilly.

Nice to see my town from the eyes (or camera) of a traveller :) But you definitely missed some hotspots. ;) Next time you visit, come in spring or summer and make sure you go to the Hortus and Sterrenwacht and check out the Burcht and Hooglandse kerk too. Nice video bro, thanks! :)
Very nice video. I'm a Brit living in NL, and Leiden is one of my favourite Dutch cities. I prefer it to Amsterdam. More history than you can shake a stick at within a single square mile. And just as nice in winter.

Dear Gabriel, thank you for your videos from the Netherlands (Amsterdam and Leiden).. They are very beautiful. I lived and worked in the Netherlands for 8 1/2 years in Hilversum and Amsterdam. I like the dutch
people very much, they are different to the germans, they have another livestyle, open and free.
I am happy, that my son is studying there - in Maastricht.
Next time when you go to NL visit Maastricht, which is a nice small city in Limburg with a lot of international
students and a beautiful surrroundings. Brussels and Antwerp are not far away. Aachen in Germany are close as well.

Wow, looks really cold and foggy! Definitely a unique and trippy environment to walk around and explore the city in. What is the temperature like there? I will be back in Europe in February, and I’ll be visiting Belarus. Hopefully the weather is not too brutal! Haha
It was a little above freezing, never really got below freezing while I was in the Netherlands. So it was warmer than the Baltics, Ukraine and Belarus.
Great videos Gabriel i went the netherlands and uk last june went to amsterdam great city .in the uk went to London and Liverpool and i found Liverpool to be one of the best cities ive been to ? I got tipped off by a friend to Visit if i made it to the Uk .
