Hey and welcome to The LiFe in Pines! 🌲We're Ted and Jenna. (CJ, Finley and our clan of Goldens, too!)
We started this channel as a way to document building an off grid tree house on our property, but the Lord led us in a different direction soon after we began.
We ended up buying an 1890’s home in a small tourist town to rent as an AIRBNB. So we gutted it, fixed ALL that was wrong with it, and put it back together!
We’ve done renovation work before, but NOTHING of this magnitude.
We took on this massive project by ourselves, all while homeschooling our kids, running our hobby farm, Ted working his full time hospital job and of course keeping it REAL!
Now that the home is complete, we got right back to building our off-grid treehouse!
We hope you'll follow along... and if you can't learn from us, at least you can laugh with us!

The house appraised in the 150s once we refinanced. We feel like it’s worth more than that but oh well. Move to Northern MN, the houses are cheap but need ALOT OF WORK!

We call them pine beetles 😖🫣. They are super loud when they fly and they BITE! 🌲
This is not a critique, but hear me out. You said you have been living a non-toxic lifestyle for 10 years, which is great. And I love that the mattress is made of organic materials. But you bought sheet vinyl flooring for the tent, which is the most toxic plastic made by man and is bad for people and the environment. I'm just wondering if you are aware if the dangers of vinyl? It's sort of a contradiction to have them together in that setting. I know options are limited though! And no need to answer to us, I just wanted to mention it. The tent is turning out very nice.
I guess what we should say is “we’ve been trying to live a non-toxic lifestyle for ten years” 🫣 It’s impossible to rid yourself of all toxic materials, but we try probably harder than most. We actually were unaware of the toxicity of the floor we purchased. The SDS (safety data sheet) that comes with this product states it’s a 0 for health hazard, 1 for fire hazard, and 0 for reactivity. (If one can even trust that data) we appreciate your knowledge. Any ideas on an alternative in this situation? 🌲

You have to have the decorator genes to know a potted plant makes all the difference as it did. Brilliant! Rocky scared the you know what out of us! The stairs apparently are bear proof…. The trees surrounding the platform are however not 😝 Finley was with all of the dogs and also didn’t get much sleep 😖 Our oldest dog Huck HATES storms…. So he kept her up all night too! We originally bought them for the rolling island at the project house, but they were too big! Worked great for this! You all did an amazing job on Squatters Heights! The place looks amazing but I would have been inside if a storm like that came over. I’d be like Nope, I’m out… also the videography was top notch you guys are amazing. Oh and I loved the head board for the bed. Have a good rest of your week.
