- We're back after a brief but much needed break over Christmas and New years! Ted and I hope you all have had a wonderful holiday season and are as ready as we are to tackle a new year!
You guys have been asking what we're doing next so here we are! We are SO STINKIN' excited to be back outside, back at home and back where we started with the OFF GRID TREE HOUSE BUILD! We took a pretty major detour with our total home renovation at the project house, but we're back and can't wait to take you guys along with us as we take on, yet again, a HUGE project that.... you guessed it.... we've never done before!

I would like to ask for you guys if you would pray for our family. Just lost our 38yr old son 11/29 and his memorial was 1/4. He left behind a 12 and 4 yrs old daughters. His sister also has terminal Cancer stage 4 age 35 and doesn’t have long. Cancer has taken over her entire body brain, bones and her organs and doctors are keeping her comfortable at this point. She also has two children 14 yr old son and 11 yr old daughter. These are the only two children I bore. My heart is broken in a million pieces. At one point to be honest I got a bit mad at God and told him so but still need all the prayers to get me back to a good place and our family. Thanks in advance. I love you all and your faith. My prayer is that in the midst of this terrible tragedy, you can cling to the promise that the Lord will never leave you or forsake you. I pray that you are comforted and feel peace as you are wrapped tightly in the Fathers loving arms. I pray for clarity, understanding and strength for you in the decisions you have to make. I pray these things for your grandchildren as well. All this in Jesus' name. We will continue to pray for you as you navigate this unimaginably difficult time. Oh if you could’ve seen them in person, it was remarkable. The glare was bad so it was hard to get them on film and honestly we were so amazed I didn’t really film much of it. But it was so worth getting soaked and cold (despite it being 50° that day.)

One of your nutty pine cones dropping in to say hi, hang out with you, and see what your are doin' today. Hi Jenna and Ted, it's very nice to see you again after your well deserved break. Jenna, I missed your happy, warm and gorgeous smile and Ted's shenanigans and comical mischieviousness. You two are such a fun couple, I love watching you interact and work together to take on something. It was nice seeing Finley and CJ and also Clifford and the others. Your experience with seeing the hybernating snapping turtles was really something quite special and I appreciate you including that in this vid. I really admire your life and property there in Minnesota, God has richly blessed you. I enjoy and appreciate your can do attitude and how you work so very well together on whatever you are doing. There may be someone in your general area that has a sawmill they would sell or rent to you. I follow a few channels and it's qute common to see folks using the Central Machinery mills avaliable at Harbor Freight. Either new or used, it seems like that could be a good investment for you to use for a few years to save you a lot of time and effort and add an element of better control over the final product. Just a thought and my 2¢ The snow scenes were beautiful and I appreciate the time and effort it took for you to piece together all the ramdom scenes etc to make this a very enjoyable vid. Hi Larry! Hope the new year is finding you well. Yes, the turtles was quite the incredible experience and we feel very blessed that we were able to see that. What a Christmas Eve to remember! Walking on 11 inches of crystal clear ice, in the pouring rain and seeing all those turtles just basking there on the rocks.
Teds uncle has a sawmill, but he uses it all the time. We've looked for used ones, but even they are really expensive. Eventually we will get one because we know we will use it a lot more in the future. for now, these few beams will be ok to mill with the chainsaw... we hope!

Hi Tom! Yes, if it’s a considered a “campground” it’s closer to what we are trying to do with it being off grid AND a rental, so it’s easier for the county and health department to figure out what kind of regulations we need.

Love it! Missed you guys. Great job with the chainsaw. I'm a little late, but was going to suggest watching Ryan on Surviving Ring Worm. The guy is a Tom Cat with a chainsaw. He's in UP Michigan, and all of his buildings are built with his trees he milled himself. If you're not familiar with his channel, you should check out his mill. He moved up to a 22 inch bar. He also says where he got his chains from. Anyway, great video, and thanks again for the bloopers! I'll have to remember to wipe my nose on my girlfriends face! 🤣

I worked for a smaller county in northwestern Washington. The building/permit is called DCD, Department of Community Development. Where the the most used word, was NO. permit fees are very expensive. I understand your pain.
Haha no kidding. From the county it’s “Um…. Im not exactly sure, you’ll have to check with MDH” I call MDH, “oh that’s a county thing, you’ll need to talk to them”
Otherwise it’s “no” or “that’s gonna cost ya” so yes I imagine you know exactly what we’re going through! 😵💫

The chainsaw mill is definitely a cost effective place to start! I wouldn't want to mill 100 beams with it, but for what we're doing, it'll be perfect. Albeit, a lot of work, but perfect none the less.

The way you've spelled 'LiFe' in your channel title reads as Lithium Iron to me and probably a few other similar geeks, lol.
You might be the first person who has ever said anything about that! The Li doesn’t really mean anything to us, but the capital f in the Fe is in fact intentional.
The area we live is called the “iron range” because of all the open pit iron mining done around here. Ted’s dad was a miner, and his brother and our brother in law both still are. Both of my brothers were miners as well until they moved out of state last summer. So it means something to us!
I loved what you said about you know your chainsaw being under powered but it is what you have so that's what you use. Just wondering if you have looked into a used sawmill, there might be a good deal on one. I think there are probably people out there who have bought one, and after using a couple times decided it wasn't for them, or maybe one of those harbor freight mills. Just a thought.😊
Yes, we have looked on line for used ones and they're still quite expensive.. just not in the budget right now. A lot of people mentioned harbor freight so I looked it up and it's still 2,500$. A sawmill is definitely on the list of investments we would like to make, but the chainsaw mill will work just fine to get us started with the first few beams. We're definitely keeping an eye out for a good deal on one, though!

It's on the list, but not in the budget at this time! The chainsaw mill will be perfect for the few beams we need to get us started, but we absolutely will be investing in a sawmill in the future! Lots of recommendations for the harbor freight sawmill!

Great video and I love the ideas you have for the treehouse and tents. suggestion: If you plan to use the two 16 foot 2x4s for the duration, you might consider putting a 45 degree miter on each board where they meet and gluing them togther with screws probably from the bottom side. You can then cut the board to the length you want and it's now one board. Hope this helps smooth out the transition.
