  • This past week we got a pretty good dumping of snow followed by a nasty cold snap where the temperature highs hung around at 0° for several days in a row. Ted has been working a lot and taking a lot of call, which meant interrupted sleep and work days. It all worked out, though, and we were still able to accomplish everything we set out to do. We got all the snow removal done, built this beast of a yoke, installed that puppy, and had a relaxing evening thawing out in the sauna. We are so excited to have completed this step, and she's a beaut. Next up is milling the BIG beams... by big we mean BIG. 32 footers, to be exact. We'll see ya then!

Awesome video, and the project came out great. It's nice seeing people like you guys having fun and embracing the cold north. It takes a special kind of person to do that, and you guys do it very well!! :D And how your channel doesn't have more subscribers is way beyond me!

Thank you! We are kind of forced to embrace the cold up here! 😂 We would go stir crazy if we didn’t! It’s really not that bad if you can just keep moving. As for the subs, it’s not in our hands 🙌🏻. We will continue to grind as long as we can, but it does get discouraging at times 😣
We think the YT algorithm doesn’t like us! 😂 Thanks for the comment. We appreciate it more than you know!! 🌲

0 and -7 is still frigid! Especially if it's humid and windy! That is the worst! We were lucky that it was sunny and dry with no wind... plus the fire and moving around, we were surprisingly ok... except for our hands of course!

I have been watching your weather and Cajun Country Livin' weather, can't believe you are able to get anything thing done in those temperatures. Jill and I have been pretty much just hybernating, as we also have been in the minus zero's. Looks like Jim and Lydia have also been colder than normal. We are looking forward to spring,. As always great video, you guys are amazing, although probably a little crazy getting in water like that 😅.

Yes they got some cold and ice last week as well! I would usually be hibernating too, but.... LAYERS! I told Ted I feel like the kid from A Christmas Story all bundled up in my 29 layers, but I have to otherwise I freeze. We like winter and are hoping for more snow.. the negative temps can stay away but snow would be nice. CJ's been wanting to take the snowmobile out!
Everyone says that about jumping in the lake... until they're here and are presented with the opportunity. Then it's hard to know when to stop! lol

Come on you two, you both are pros now after the project house. Ted is an awesome carpenter and you are the awesome designer and assistant. Ok enough patting on the back. The wing and a prayer comment l so can relate too with any project l do lately, plus the babushka comment to Ted reminds me of my grandmother and yes l am a Chicago polish boy.I also hold my finger up to see which way the wind is blowing to see how my day will go with any project especially the lake house. The cold plunge l have never tried unless I fall thru the ice so no thank you. Stay safe and warm.

Hi Jenna and Ted, it is great seeing you again. I thought this pine cone would drop in and spend some time with you today. This video was a treat for me; it was very enjoyable! You two did an awesome job on the assembly of the yoke and it's installation - and that's no yoke! Ted did an awesome job with the mortise joinery on the beams. I loved the wing and a prayer reference, say a prayer and wing it. I like the rough appearance of the timbers for the yoke construction and feel for the overall appearance it is much better than if they were cut on a mill and more precise in appearance. It was very nice seeing Finley and Clifford. I've come to expect Ted to do crazy stuff and he certaily did not disappoint in this one. The scene of him entering the store hiking up his snow suit was hysterical! Jenna, you did a nice job editing and weaving together misc scenes to make this an enjoyable view. I'm sure all the time and effort required after spending the day out in the cold, it was the last thing you wanted to do. I do appreciate your efforts for a great content. You two taking the cold plunge after the sauna brought back memories to when I used to do things like like that 🙃 those days are passed for me now so I'll pass on that thank you 🤪 Ted wasn't wrong when he commented on your eyes, they are beautiful Jenna. You guys work so well together and always make it fun while doing it. You chopping the firewood and lifting that heavy yoke gave me a whole new appreciation of your abilities and tenacity Jenna. I hope you guys have a blessed week and be safe out in that cold. Larry, Cerntral Valley, Ca.

Hi Larry! I couldn't agree more, Ted really did an amazing job on the joinery! It looks even better in person! Yes, one of our viewers commented about the wing and a prayer some time back and it has definitely stuck with us!
We agree! We wanted to leave that rounded edge facing out, so when you look up from the lake, you see what looks like an actual log, instead of a commercially milled beam! We love how it turned out!
Thank you for all your kind and encouraging words! Ted and I truly appreciate it and they really do help us want to continue on making more content and taking you all along with us!

Wait !!!! Did I see Jenna with the measuring end of a Tape Measure AND a marking hootis!!! WAY TO GO JENNA, WAY TO GO thump thump thump(pretend as if that was a football cheer and the thumps are clapping). You Penguins do not need luck, you just need a cheering squad to celebrate the increadible work that is being done. That was the perfect way to connect the slanty thingys to the top thingy to make a solid thingy
Ted, have Jenna Translate if you are confused.
Now, sorry, but this needs to be said > you are the living embodiment of the tagline from Gallaxy Quest -- NEVER GIVE UP, NEVER SURRENDER
Hey, how did Schrodingers Cat get in this note???
Oh, AND here is my re-tread (retired) note of the day "ARGH -- Trig, my head hurts"
Jenna, I would not be a good elderly gentleman (read Old Fart) if I did not say "Break your wrists (relax your grip, not really BREAK -- think Volley Ball and the bump set) when you are on the down swing with the axe -- break the wrists at about shoulder height, it will increase the head speed of the axe and is less painful on your elbows and shoulders"
Ted is exactly dead solid perfect with the "Your Eyes Are so Pretty" comment. Way to go Ted!! Keep that woman -- forever -- never let her go.🍀🌹🌹🦋🦋
The song that was played during the Yoke lift was perfect -- "Always Supposed to Find You" God is great, God is Good, God brought the two of you together to remind the rest of the world what a match made in Heaven looks like. Thank you GOD🛐✝🛐
I will end with the thoughts that were in Ted mind when he said "You Betcha" at the alter.
Song of Solomon 4:9: You have captivated my heart, my sister, my bride; you have captivated my heart with one glance of your eyes, with one jewel of your necklace.
Corinthians 13:13: And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.
1 John 4:18: There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear. For fear has to do with punishment, and whoever fears has not been perfected in love.
You ARE the lamppost that lights the way for those that see you and know you.

Nope, The pine tree sap will surround the bolt and stop the ability of beetles to enter into the tree.

Hi! This is a really good question! No, it won't kill the tree over time. Or at least it shouldn't. From what we understand, as long as the tree still has its bark and living ring (the outermost ring) and as long as it has the ability to grow that outer ring, the tree (especially one of this size) doesn't care about, and sometimes doesn't even notice a hole this size drilled into it. I hope that helps!

It’s something that EVERYONE who comes here says, but they end up doing it with us! We recommend giving it a try! Sure does make you feel alive! 🌲

What was the temperature outside when you jumped into the water? There is a gal named Joanna Jinton does those ice jumps she is from Sweden. A few years ago she won videographer of the year on RUclips. Her talent of making videos is on another level. Her channel is her name.

I can’t remember off the top of my head what the temps were. Probably around 0°F…. It truly doesn’t matter what temp it is outside after coming out of 210° sauna 😂…. Any temp below that feels good 😆
We will have to check out her channel! I bet her content is amazing! 🌲

You are such a wholesome couple/family. Thank you for sharing your adventures!
I used to live in Minnesota, Park Rapids, but have been on the west coast for almost 40 years. I miss the way life was then… but do not miss the bitterly cold winters. 😊
I will be watching your channel and thank you again for sharing your life adventures!

Thank you for following along with us! We love MN, but the west coast sounds lovely too!
The bitterly cold winters here can be a bit much! But, this year has been a warm one! ☀️ Thanks again for your support, we hope we can at least bring back some good memories and a smile to your face! 🌲

You two totally crack me up!! I'm impressed how well the two of you work together as always, but the outtakes at the end had me rolling with laughter. I'm also in aw of getting the shot of the snowflake hanging on the cobweb. THAT was absolutely beautiful. Looking forward to seeing the rest of this project as it goes along. Stay warm, stay safe and God bless.
